If the animation/character design wasn't so painful to stare at this would actually seem like a pretty cool show. Nothing special for anime standards but for a step into more young adult genre stuff for western animation it seems like a fun watch. I'll check out the first two or three episodes at least.

The delusional part of me hopes that this will be genuinely good parody. The slightly less delusional part of me hopes that it'll be so bad it's good. But deep down I know it might be more likely for it to be terrible, and not even in a entertaining way.
I'm still watching it though. I admit, the setting of a modern utopian city and the fantasy elements appeals to me, so even if it's irredeemably bad, I at least want to give it a chance and see that it's bad with my own eyes.

You know what really bugs me about Neo Yokio? Just how fucking cynical it is. No one on the western side of this show gives a shit about anime. Even if they like it, which I very much doubt, they like it in the way idiotic millenials on Twitter like it, as "le wacky Japanese meme cartoons XDDD!!".

These guys aren't Glen Murakami. They're not Aaron Macgruder. They didn't think "Hey, I like anime, maybe if we try hard enough we could make something that's kinda like anime!". They just saw a popular art style that makes a lot of money and is popular with The Kids, and went "WELL WOULDN'T IT BE FUNNY IF THESE GUYS SWORE? FUND IT IMMEDIATELY!!!!", sent some cash over to Japan, and, because Japanese people will roll over if an American tells them to, they got it made. Isn't that just disgusting? Isn't that an awful practice?

I think, if done well, cartoons can do a very good job of imitating anime. My favourite cartoon, the 2003 Teen Titans series, is probably the best example I could use for this argument. But when you just mash two conflicting cultures and philosophies together, you lose what makes both special (in my humble opinion, I know many disagree).

I dunno, I didn't like the trailer and I won't watch the show. I'm sure there will be plenty of high-larious memes, though! Make sure to like and share them with your friends. Blargh.

Most media is a bunch of different themes and genres but focuses on a big one and uses the others to reinforce and support the main one. They seem to want this to be a comedy, slice of life, occult, mecha, romance and 'random' anime without focusing on one or the other which makes it feel directionless and vague.

I don't know this could just be a really bad trailer and the anime itself will be 'meh' but it feels like whoever cut the trailer had no idea what the show was about and thus didn't focus on anything in particular.
