Both sides get cool stuff. Impirials get things like Defenders and repurposed Umbaran tech

Rebels actually get some salvaged CIS stuff. Play them if you wanna be an underdog.

Eventually you'll be able to move to different planets. IIRC some are safe havens for certain factions that you'll get rekt if you go too, but I stopped playing last year so I cant tell you much. Community probably fluctuates and stuff too.

No idea how active it is, but I know it was getting updates semi-regularly up until I stopped playing.

Honestly the game was decent. It had a lot of care put into it. One of the main writers is Alaxander Freed, who wrote one of the main Canon novels too, so they were taking it seriously. The game is still alluded to in Empire's End so all the events are canon and happened.

It's just the game wasn't very profitable, and there's no getting around that money is the only reason mobile games exist.

It got mentioned twice as if it was a big important thing.

It's just that Uprising's events spiraled out of control and it's this big THING now. If it was just a small scale uprising like it started out then fine, but now it ended on this giant clusterfuck where there's a private army that doesn't answer to the New Republic, led by a Jedi who doesn't answer to Luke, completely unconstrained by any treaties. That's a huge fucking deal because now Luke has a rival and the imperial remnant has an angry motherfucker on their asses the deals won't cover.

Does this guy try to establish his own jedi order? Does he die saving the sector? Does he lead a force independent of the New Republic?

It's basically the problem NuCanon has in a nutshell. Sure, you can SAY the NR was a small affair and most systems didn't rejoin. But in practice this means you'll just keep getting more situations like this every time some surviving inquisitor carves out his own space or some kid finds a holocron, or if some system doesn't feel it's avenged itself on the imperial remnant enough, or if a bunch of soldiers that got discharged try to do their own thing.

Lucasfilm is basically trying to play it as "Nothing happened between 6 and 7, it's all a reset" but the actual practicalities of the timeline they set up imply a bunch of shit happens that undermines their "Luke is the last guy, the resistance is the only fighting force, Rey is the only new hope" schpiel.

Hell, if Hera put in a bid to become chancellor half the outer rim would probably have supported her as Mon Mothma's successor over Leia. She had more actual command experience and had been front line fighting way longer.

They were the first rebels to take out a star destroyer, wrecked the fuck out of Sheev and Vader, commanded what had to have been dozens of raids and operations between both Syndullas at bare minimum, had Yendor and Hera command two elite X-Wing squadrons through the war, and a bunch of other shit besides given Beezer was one of Saw's top guys leading raids on Jedah.

At this point the only reason they're not the top alien group in the rebellion is because the Mon Cala had to throw everything down to entire municipalities into the Imperial war machine.

That's the point. The implicit reasoning of TFA and TLJ is that Luke is the last jedi. Kylo Ren hunted down Luke's students, and so the Jedi died again.

But that story goes out the window the moment you say that the entire time there were a bunch of other guys who'd be about as experienced but weren't there and didn't take orders from Luke or recognize his authority. Luke Skywalker is thus no longer the last jedi and if his order failed a competing one or competing group would functionally take his place. This goes double if they never had to obey the peace treaties and disarm and can conceivably just fight the FO head on 20 years later.

Obviously that's not going to be what actually happens, which is the problem. You need to go from a point with many independent pseudo jedi to one order which we know nothing about to just one guy. But J.J. had no interest in bridging the gap and Lucasfilm outright refuses to move the timeline forward with novels right now.

For real though, it would make sense for Luke to commune with him and with all the thematic parallels deliberately drawn between the two characters. People don't give enough credit to Qui-Gon as the designated spiritual and moral authority of the Saga.

The thing is, the cut that made it to the final film didn't really show any of the saber's history with Luke either, apart from the hallway in Cloud City. Everything shown visually afterwards happened long after the lightsaber was lost.

The Force, through the lightsaber, was relaying what was relevant to Rey's destiny - and actually, it was more centered on her strange connection to Kylo than on anyone else (destruction of the academy, the massacre of the clan, the SKB duel). The Bespin flashback and the abandonment on Jakku were the odd ones out. The only "history of the lightsaber" conveyed were the echoes you hear in the audio snippets of dialogue - nothing more.

Does anyone here remember the Clone Wars multimedia project between 2002 and 2005 (comics like Republic and Obsession, toys, novels, games like Republic Commando, Empire at War, and Battlefront II, Genndy Wars, etc.), as well as the hype leading up to Revenge of the Sith? That was a lot of fun.

It seems that Star Wars will never be that fun or hype, as it was in the late 90s-mid 2000s, ever again. The late 2000s/early 2010s were a lull period where Star Wars was a pathetic laughingstock (due to the Redlettermedia reviews, the Denningverse taking over the EU, and the 2011 Blu-ray changes), while the Disney period of 2015-present is just bland and safe.

That's not really what happened. The Red Army had suffered leadership issues and were in a desperate situation. But once Moscow, Stalingrad and Kursk broke the Axis back, the Red Army started using proper combined arms tactics. They operated superior maneuver warfare that even the Germans were astonished by. Ryloth was more like WW2 partisans, Viet Cong and French Resistance with strong hit and run tactics and infiltration. It helps as the Empire was so large and bloated. They took advantage of Moff Mors and Belkor which attributed a lot to their success.

The only reason why they took down the Perilous was because they compromised Imperial Command and they used every available resource they had. Palpatine was counting on it and they suffered greatly for it until the Galactic Civil War really started.

Time to bring quality discussion back to this thread. Vehiclebro back to chronicle all the vessels of Star Wars in chronological appearance, as best I can. This time, it's Rogue One.

Feel free to point out anything I miss. Note however, I won't be recapping vehicles which appeared previously in canon. After I finish posting all the vehicles known so far, I'll start on a survey of all the trooper types, by faction.

I'll be starting with the three vehicles seen in the Rebels season 4 trailer. First is the iconic T-65 X-wing, Cadillac of the skies. In Rebels, they're Green, in Rogue One, they're Blue, in the OT they're Red, and in TFA they're Halloween.

The First Order should have just been a bunch of neonazi teenagers getting serious when a few former Imperial officers trained them properly and finally gaining their Vader figure when Kylo joins up. They should have been doing terrorist attacks and in TFA it would have finally gotten serious when they successfully killed the majority of the New Republic Senate in a bombing causing chaos across the galaxy. They would then fight a guerilla type war against the Resistance (which is now backed up by the New Republic fleet since they now take the First Order seriously) and utilize the failures of the Jedi and New Republic to get worlds to join them and turn them into a threat similar to the Separatists by the end of Episode 8. The theme of the trilogy would be extremism on both sides (the First Order being willing to do anything to recreate the Empire and the New Republic willing to sacrifice any values they hold to keep the peace) leading to chaos and Rey trying to become a diplomat with training from Luke and Leia so that she can bring peace to the fractured New Republic and First Order.

No Snoke, no Starkiller Base. Just Kylo Ren executing Senators in holovids while giving fanatic pro-Imperial speeches.

The UT-60D U-wing is best described as a Space Huey, but sadly real life has no analogue to this genius of Star Wars industrial design. I would have liked these to have appeared in the Shattered Empire comic that takes place immediately post ROTJ, where the artists invent a Rebel shuttle/transport that is never seen again. Interestingly, the iteration in Rebels trailer has only two engines, on the bottom, the top two being later additions presumably.

The TX-225 Occupier tank comes in two variants; the GAVr hovertank with repulsorlifts, and the GAVw with treads (which was a really unnecessary distinction, the audience would have believed it was a hovertank with proper foley and editing). We see the caterpillar version on Jedha, and will see the hovertank in Rebels, presumably on Lothal.

A very intriguing and unique TIE variant, the TIE Reaper is a shuttle/transport/gunship, like an evil counterpart to the U-wing, or the Imperial equivalent of the LAAT/I. If you're attentive, you can spot one cruising above the cityscape of the Ring of Kafrene early on in Rogue One, right before Cassian's introduction.

The magnificent Zeta-class Cargo Shuttle is first seen in the skies of Jedha. It's 4 wings are reminiscent of a pinniped (seal, sea lion) or cetacean (whale). The AT-ST (All Terrain-Scout Transport, or if you're old enough to remember, "Chicken Walkers") are seen prowling the streets of Jedha multiple times. The very first stop motion model produced for their brief appearance in Empire Strikes Back differs significantly from the bigger-headed, open-eyed variant in ROTJ and elsewhere. Their profile always struck me as something like that of an Easter Island Moai.

The Eta class supertanker is a bulk cargo vessel in the vein of other Cygnus Spaceworks shuttlecraft. It's quite large, being at least as big as the Rebel CR90 and probably quite a bit larger (150-200+ meters) but with its hull-volume dedicated almost entirely to materiel shipping. I'd like to see one of these scaled side by side with the Imperial KDY cargo ships, the big bulky triangles from Rebels.

The AT-ACT (All-Terrain Armored Cargo Transport) is Imperial equivalent of a armored truck. It needs grounded locomotion in order to haul its hyperdense cargo loads, and the legs permit it to wade through the vast shallow seas of Scarif. It is pictured here next to an AT-AT (not to scale, the AT-ACT is nearly half-again as large as an AT-AT) for reference. It is not an actual fighting vehicle, those guns are for defense and are not adept at engaging anything other than ground troops.

The TIE/sk x1 Striker is an experimental and frankly overdesigned TIE craft. Though I appreciate the effort that went in to designing a neat new TIE, it's rather fanficcy. It's wing configuration make it the fastest and most agile ship in atmo, effortlessly killing x-wings with its six forward laser cannons. The dual-crew long-pod also has an interior gunner and bomber. It'd probably be one of the most overpowered designs in Star Wars were it not for the fact that it cannot exit a gravity well, making it very situational, and not particularly desired by any faction in-universe. Though apparently Terex sequestered one away somewhere circa 30ABY.

That's part of it, the other part is that the cold of Hoth made it difficult for anybody to use their Starfighters, whereas X-wings and U-wings and shit got to blast the less-well-armored AT-ACTs no problem til the TIE Strikers got to em. Also the AT-ACTs have heavy duty internal repulsorlifts to maintain their structure without buckling put under constant strain by the hyperdense loads, and when an ion cannon overloads it, they're toast.

The MC75 Profundity is a Mon Calamari cruiser converted from an old skyscraper. The Mon Calamari are pure shitposters - when the Empire came a-knockin' at their door after they just got through kicking out the Separatists, what do they do? Strap rockets to their cities and launch them out of the water straight into space like a nuclear submarine launching ICBMs. Easily in my top 5 favorite ships.

This is, I think, the last unique vessel introduced chronologically in Rogue One. Please correct me if I'm wrong or missed anything. But now that I've covered so much stuff from the prequels etc, we see less new stuff per OT era entry. I'll get to ANH shortly, and it will be a fairly short compendium.
