hows everyone liking this? i loved the 90s cartoon and the old series a lot as a kid, but this new sense of realism pushes it ahead of the rest.
>>
>>95170075
It's a fun take on the characters, but I hope they put out the rest of the episodes soon.

The scenes when the Terror comes back and is hanging out with Ms. Lint are fucking amazing.

I really like it so far and like seeing them do some heroic acts in a bit more serious manner, just haphazardly. I just hope we can get a bit more Tick-and-Arthur roommate stuff. They barely dwelled on that aspect of their relationship outside of the "this is your secret lair?" that's in every iteration and the suburbs party scene.
>>
It's fun. I don't have anything bad to say about it.
>>
>>95170198
The bit where they saved the people on the bus was surprisingly good.

It was weird to see something that felt like actual heroism in a Tick adaptation, but in a good way.
>>
>>95170273
I was also really happy Tick saved some of the guys Overkill was trying to murder. I almost wish he could have gone out of his way to save them all.
>>
>>95170198
yeah I wanted it to be more domestic for fanservice purposes, but with the presence of an actual plot theyve actually bonded a lot closer than on the other shows.
>>95170375
I dont think the tick is so strict on his no kill policy. he was just gonna let arthur and overkill off with a stern talk for stabbing a dozen thugs
>>
Lint is a cute. Also glad they changed the costume , Pilot costume looked a bit cheap.
>>
Also I was quite surprised on the amount of killing and f bomb drops. I thought it was gonna be G-rated or someshit.
>>
>>95170075
Links? just heard of this right now and I can't find it anywhere
>>
>>95170534
It's only on Amazon if you have a Prime account.

You could make a trial, but only the first six episodes are out right now. I don't know if anyone has made a mega for it yet, I haven't seen them in the previous threads.
>>
>>95170534
only on amazon prime dude
>>95170519
web stuff can get away with pretty much anything. even a kids show like camp camp can have cursing/death
>>
>>95170534
Literally google stream the Tick my dude. https://fmovies.is/film/the-tick.2990l
>>
>>95170571
Yeah but the genuine tone of the show was campy kid fun at first then they showed the terror executing those heroes and then overkill straight up decapitating people. I mean I shouldn't be surprised but I keep forgetting the type of shit they showed in webstuff and that you should stream shit on your laptop and not on the TV because you don't know what kind of shit might pop up like when I was in my cousins house watching OISTNB and they started to much on each other's carpet and my aunt walked in.
>>
I like the idea that Authur created the Tick as a tulpa
>>
>>95170670
ahaha you shouldve known oitnb is big among us lesbos for a reason

in this internet era kids are really desensitized to sex and cusses and violence. i watched it with my little sis and her friends, that stabbing and offscreen torture and gore is pretty much nothing to an average 6th grader. its just good silly fun for them
>>
>>95170075
I really like it. Looking forward to more. It's comfy, easy watching.
>>
>>95170773
I was just fucking around on Netflix and it said it was a top rated show so I was like what ever I'll watch it. Did not know what to expect and was pretty surprised that they showed straight up carpet munching. Yeah I'll agree with you that people these days are so desensitized with sex and gore, I remember the director of Saw said that it's harder to shock people now. but I don't know man I was like 18? when I saw it and I was like what the fuck why are they showing this.

>>95170805
When are they releasing the 2nd half of season 1 anyway?
>>
>>95170075
I want Ms. Lint to ride me like a horse.
>>
>>95170859
>When are they releasing the 2nd half of season 1 anyway?
I have no idea, sorry anon.
>>
>>95170132
i loved his mentorship with ms lint
also, they really took the demonically evil 100 year old villain thing to a horrific level with that high budget makeup. hes great
>>
It's pretty good. It's an interesting take on the Tick/Arthur dynamic in a number of ways and I'm really looking forward to them gradually becoming actual best buds instead of this weird one-sided thing. I'm also really hoping Tick lets off at least one SPOOOOOOON.
>>
>>95170918
Damn. Also asked on /tv/ and they said it might be 2018.

>>95170933
Ms Lint is an OC right? I love the terror's voice, very raspy. Also what is the Tick anyway? why is he amnesiac? I'm not familiar with the cartoon, is he the dad or something?

>>
>>95170970
The Tick's deal has always been that he has never had a definite origin.

At most you'll maybe see him start a series in an insane asylum or something but otherwise he doesn't really have a backstory or anything like friends or family.
>>
>>95170970

In this continuity, it's heavily implied (almost outright stated) that Arthur willed Tick into existence out of his subconscious. Tick, being friendly, strong, and filled with JUSTICE, is the kind of superhero that Arthur looked up to and wanted to be before his father/idols were killed.
>>
>>95171049
>>95171062
Thanks for that info. Eh I don't like Arthur too much, he's the worst part of the show for me. I mean I guess that's the point of Arthur but the actor just has a very punchable face

>>95170985
That's not Lint.
>>
>>95170491
>Arthur we need to have "the talk".
This show is great.
>>
>>95170534
Don't you know how to pirate? Here, let me teach you
Step 1: Go to google
Step 2: Search
Step 3: Watch

Glad to be of service
>>
>>95170859
>showed straight up carpet munching
there is no porn in it, just shows a head going down on a naked person. Nothing you don't see in PG 13 stuff too.
>>
>>95170970
2018 seems likely. From what I understand, the pilot dropped in 2016 and then we got 5 eps at the end of August.
>>
>>95170933
The dinner scenes had my rolling.

>Oh, and I've been killing all the bees.
>Dick move.
>Right?

>Are you ready? Frankly, you look like shit.

>What happened?
>You died, okay?
>Did your brain?
>>
>>95171062
it's not implied in the least. He thought he imagined him but he was always real
>>
>>95170970
The Tick is The Tick.
>>
>>95171049
I really feel like The tick is going to turn out to have been authur's imaginary nite lite friend. Or at least they're going for that authur created or somehow willed the tick into existence.
>>
>>95171362
Yes, but also in Authur's flashbacks, his imaginary friend that spoke to him through the blue night light also had Tick's voice.

>>95170075
I fucking love it.

I just hope we are going to see more things that isn't Terror/Lint based in S2.

Chairface probably? Agis coming back to the city to enforce laws and regulations unto the Tick and Arthur which causes them to outright ignore. More Supers for the Tick and Overkill to be annoyed with.

I also would love to see what the homeless mans office look like. Probably a secret lair with super computers or something.
>>
>>95170075
>hows everyone liking this? i loved the 90s cartoon and the old series a lot as a kid, but this new sense of realism pushes it ahead of the rest.

The realism/grittyness kind of puts me off.

I could understand if the whole world were serious and it was just the Tick who is lone crazy guy trying to fit everything into this heroic narrative...

Or if the world embraced the kookyness and was more self-aware the way 90's cartoon or the Venture Bros are.

But right now, it feels kind of muddled. It's like some characters are in on the joke while others are trying to treat the whole deal with deadly seriousness.

Admittedly I've only watched the first 4 episodes.
>>
>>95170970
There's no real origin or identity for the Tick, which I think is the point.

>>95171362
>>95171455
They're probably still leaving that open and we don't even know if there's a circumstance that caused young Arthur to hear Tick's voice; like supposing Tick time traveled accidentally and then tried to call out for Arthur.

I loved it. Marathoned the entire series in one sitting, or rather the first six episodes. The Tick himself was wonderful, as was The Terror.

I loved how The Terror's advice to Ms. Lint after she killed several of his minions was "Don't kill my minions because you're angry. You don't kill people because you're angry, you kill them because it's fun!".
>>
>>95171789
That's true but, The tick kind of implies that they've known each other for a long time. I agree it's kind of purposefully vague though so the audience could go either way with their conclusions.

I love how it's heavily implied that Overkill is a member of the Flag Five, because the one guy The Terror let live after his bio-engineered syphilis ate his eyes also had his hands broken. Overkill is missing his original eyes and his arms have been enhanced with cybernetics, and he has an utter murderlust for The Terror. None of that shit is a coincidence.
>>
>>95170075
I don't like cape parody, or live action- but I thought this was great. The 30 minute run time is perfect and left no room for CW/Netflix tier drama.
>>
>>95170942
its handled like a joke, but arthur is still traumatized from terror, depressed, and crazy as shit. no friends or unconditional love and support until tick, who does it REALLY intensely and suddenly. he's a lot to swallow after everyone else always dismissed his conspiracy theories and tossed him into therapy/jail, so its expected that he would push tick away to stay out of trouble at first.
and we'll see about any battle cries; apparently peter doesnt want his tick to seem like such a toony parody.
>>95171500
really? i thought it added a lot in terms of dimension and immersion. its plenty amusing and entertaining, but it feels fulfilling to have a paranoid tiny loser get heroically validated. and also the 1 dimensional cape sitcom thing isnt really so profitable. the first show got cancelled, and so did powerless, more recently. the "seriousness" of overkill seems to be his whole point, he's a hilariously over the top, liefeld looking grimdark assassin who loves murder. hes a meta joke like on venture bros
>>
>>95172675
I got so worn out on the awful grimdark edgelord cape parodies of Millar and Ennis and Kirkman that I forgot what a good cape parody can actually be.
>>
>>95171789
>>95172068
I like the theory that arthur has some sort of huge manifestation power that made his dream hero real, but his character is supposed to be extremely plain and powerless to contrast tick. and that scene was one another one of his bad dreams.

hes neurotic enough to THINK hes delusional after his family and the doctors and police said so, but we know for sure that the tick is a real guy and the terror IS running all the city's crimes.
>>
Is anyone else really surprised that there was even a new The Tick? It really seems like a product of its era, sort of like the Animaniacs. How popular is the reboot?
>>
>>95174247
Doing pretty good critically, at 90%
>>
>>95173051
arthur is in fact a victim of what is called in the psychological field the martha mitchell effect.

The Martha Mitchell effect is the process by which a psychiatrist, psychologist, or other mental health clinician labels the patient's accurate perception of real events as delusional and misdiagnoses accordingly.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martha_Mitchell_effect

named after nixon's secretary of state's wife who went on 60 minutes and claimed that the president and her husband were planning crimes in the oval office. she was placed in a mental institution for a few months and quietly released for a few months before it hit the news that yes Nixon and other white house officials were committing crimes including her husband. she was reportedly drugged, held prisoner by her husband and tortured in the mental institution she was placed in.
>>
>>95174247
>It really seems like a product of its era
How so? It came about as a contrast during the surge of gritty superhero comics.

The cartoon was the same deal: Comic hero leads became popular (Earthworm Jim, The Mask, Freakazoid) just as serious superhero cartoons were taking off (B:TAS, Superman Animated Series, Spiderman Animated Series, XMen). Yeah, a couple of those are kind of campy now, but back then they were hot serious shit.

The FOX sitcom was kind of just a random stab in the dark. I assume it was FOX just looking for any property they could to make a show. I personally liked it, but it was very short lived. I think that's one of the only Tick products to come out at the wrong time.

But now, the superhero genre is filled up as fuck and half of it has returned to the "gritty and realistic" trends with Marvel movies being the number one rival against that tone as they keep up with some of the silly origins. New Tick plays on current trends perfectly in that regard. As long as heroes remain relevant, Tick will be relevant.
>>
>>95174585
I'm having trouble putting this into words, but it isn't the parody aspect so much as it is the wacky humor and general unabashed cheesiness. I'm surprised that this sort of tone and humor can survive in this day and age, where even parodies are expected to be cynical and edgy.
>>
>>95174380
i know what it is, but i've never heard the story for its namesake. that's really fucked up. arthur really is crazy, that's a constant character trait across all the iterations. but he was never hallucinating, or delusional. im glad edlund decided to hone in on it and go with that unreliable main character trend. it worked really nicely on legion too, in a different way.
>>
>>95172824
I like a lot of Ennis' work and I sometimes like Millar's and Kirkmans' work, but I think it's because Edlund seems to have a better grasp of when to make something dark and when not to.
>>
>>95171491
He has a name, you know?! And it's Tinfoil Kevin.
>>
>>95174973
in the cartoon he wasn't crazy he just needed something new at best he was in the throes of a midlife crisis. in the first live action series he wasn't crazy either. this is the first time arthur is being portrayed as crazy.
>>
>>95178176
>best he was in the throes of a midlife crisis
Some men get a shiny red car others get a new bunny suit.
>>
>>95170075
The half season deal kind of killed it for me. Why do they do this?
>>
>>95178447
To stop people from just signing up for a trial account, watching the entire series, and then canceling it.
>>
>>95178176
yeah I probably shouldn't say "crazy" its kinda offensive. but anxious, obsessive, neurotic, and still having nightmares from something that happened 15 years ago. hes too young to have a midlife crisis, and the police looking at the records said those problems started before high school

in all the versions, he's on a 'psych leave' from the accounting office, which is why he doesnt need to go to work and can still support his and tick's lifestyle. edlund really is focusing on building up arthur into a deeper main role, and he's doing it by taking the little tidbits he's been thinking about for years and exposing them
>>95178447
keeps us in anticipation. it has a chance to trend twice in the news instead of everyone binging and forgetting it lmao
>>
>>95178447
to prevent binge watching on a free trial month.
>>
>>95178546
They can still do that, dumbass.
>>
>>95171382
