Croods was originally going to be an Aardman movie, but Dreamworks took the idea away from them when they ended their contract.

They came up with this plot because they probably didn't want to get sued or be accused of being a shallow knockoff.

The Croods really only had the Egg Football sequence as far as a sport goes.

This is just Space Jam mixed up with that dumb Roland Emmerich movie about that caveman trying to save his people from being enslaved by Egyptians that are building the pyramids with Wooly Mammoth labor.
