What confused me was that Buttercup had a crush on the leader in their debut episode, so I thought they never met them before that.

Like most of Batman's rogues?

>Two-Face
Only good story is his origin, then after that he's just another gangster with a dumb gimmick
>Bane
Only good for Knightfall then after that he's just a big guy that loses all the time, usually in the same way ("Oh no, muh Venom!")

It was from Professor's point of view. They are literally nothing compared to the girls.

Also, Craig said that he felt that he was overconpensating on the darkness of the movie, and promised to never do something as dark as that and focus on humor.

Nah, he became a goofy fucker after S1, unless I'm misremembering things. Going over the top with his obsession over 'muh psychology' really made him less threatening.
>>

And ironically, Wander best parts were after Dominator was introduced as a semi-serious villain
>>
>>95153525
You're definitely misremembering a lot of things, considering he first appeared in season 2, and only became a villain in season 3.
>>
>>95152747
I'd say the reason it didn't do well was pacing. Too many scenes that go by too quickly, that some of the plot elements felt underdeveloped, or were only there for convenience. Professor getting arrested just so the PPGs have to walk home in the rain, only for him to be set free once the PPGs arrive home always felt off to me.
>>
>>95153604
It had nothing to do with the writting, it was on the time that 2d movies were being forggoten, had competition with invincible giant franchines, and almost no marketing.
>>
>>95153793
It wasn't just a financial failure, dude. Professional critics generally hated it, aswell.
>>
>>95145023
>>95152747
The darker tone was actually a CN mandate at the time, as they wanted to aim the movie at young men (ala Adult Swim I guess), but at the time of the movie's release CN had changed management and they went full-stop on that idea for the marketing
>>
>>95153815

they had a story arc in the early 2000's or so where it looked quite likely that Bane was in fact the illegitimate son of Thomas Wayne, and thus Bruce's brother, this played heavily into Bane becoming an anti-villain for a while(and indeed in many respects stuck till Flashpoint outside of him randomly killing the second Judomaster during Infinite Crisis)

Fuck, I really wish there was a retelling of his origin that emphasized on what an unnervingly quirky autist he was before he formally became a villain. Could you imagine your freaky, Ichabod Crane-looking professor pulling out a fucking piece in the middle of a lecture with zero self-awareness in a post-Columbine school system, in fucking GOTHAM of all places that would be the most likely place in the world to suffer from school shooters?

Kraven's a lot more fun as a one shot specialist villain anyway.

Honestly why wasn't he fitted with Cortosis if he was meant to fight Jedi?
>>
>>95160681
We had a thread about this a few days ago. I hear that Grievous was conceptualized to be the way that Genndy made him but the technology just wasn't there in 2005 (when the movie was being put out) to animate a nine foot tall capoeira Jedi lizard cyborg. By the time it was finalized Genndy had to throw in the Mace crush to make it make sense, and so we got the punk we got.

>old villain is originally semi-incompetent and only ambiguously evil
>new villain one-ups him in competence and villainy and the old villain becomes pure comic relief
>...until eventually the old villain returns with a vengeance, becomes unambiguously evil and legitimately intimidating for the first time, and his change completely sticks for the rest of the run
Did this ever happen?

t. someone who only read one comic from each of these villains and assumes all others are the same.

Except for Bane, anything else they attempted to do with him sucks. He was only good for the Vengeance of Bane/Knightfall arc.

do the dark riders/riders of the storm count?

they only appeared intimidating in the "what would you do to deal with them?" but never really got to put their money where their mouths are against x-factor and to anyone since.

That would be Deadshot.

But you probably say that about any competent villain who can make good use of prep-time.

Most school mass shootings (as opposed to gang shootings) happen in suburbia, not in the big city.

Yellow Diamond, sure. Blue Diamond though is more the opposite. A pathetic giant woman at first and then you see she's capable of not fucking around.

This guy trashed Rex in his first appearance, and when he showed up later with Kane, not only did they ignore his characterization (no one kills my prey but me) but Rex beats him in like a second
>>
>>95183344
Fucking THIS!
Hell, if the CIS got their mitts on those eels that Thrawn had and just added the glands to him too, Grievious could have WALKED into the Temple and ended every Jedi in there
>>

He was so unintimidating I was legitimately surprised when he was the last boss.
>>
>>95174334
Skeleton king from super robot monkey team hyperforce go!, the guy got more evil in every appearance.

Most of the recurrent villains got a similar upgrade to match, even the "fan" and Scrapperton, heck even the TV monster that was already almost indestructible gets an upgrade.

Fuck I miss super monkey team.

does "bigger, better replacements are introduced too quickly" count?

even though they are instrumental in many of the antagonist's victories, the fact that their replacements are introduced too quickly meant their status as (tough) cannon fodder was inevitable.
>>
>>95185278
Yes, yes it is.
>>
>>95191181
Likewise. I was expecting him to be a minion of a more menacing villain.
