Haven't been keeping up with Batman but read for Kite Man.

Did not get this issue at all. Riddler killed Kiteman's boy? And the whole issue is about how pathetic Kiteman is? And Batman is helping Riddler despite Riddler killing people? Am I missing something or is the comic just bad?

meh.

So Batman got Kiteman's son killed, sides with the killer, beats him up and breaks him and humiliates him in front of Riddler. Damn.

I never understood how an overweight 50 year-old man who usually only has one useable arm was ever a threat to anyone, much less Batman.

The idea is that the war between Riddler and Joker was so devastating, Batman was forced to pick a side in order to stop it, and he chose Riddler as the lesser of two evils.

Joker still has the Penguin and Solomon Grundy left, right?

I'd love for him to get the Clayface treatment. Maybe he could just join the Tec team?
>>
>>95141848
I am honestly going to see what happens. See, there is a set up here and we know Batman is going to completely fuck Riddler somewhere down the line. I mean, as Eddie said to Bane when the latter was going to beat Batman to death "We (Eddie and Batman) both know he deserves this."

>>
>>95142123
>Why doesn't the government just bomb all amusement parks in Gotham?

Because the government in both Gotham, and the state Gotham is in is incompetent due to rampant corruption. This has been canon since at least Year One.
>>
easily the best issue out of the entire storyline, which isn't really saying much.
>>
>>95142166

Also, the US government in DC comics aren't good guys. Their super hero team is literally made up of villains, and their previous liaison to the Justice League tried to genocide meta humans.
>>
>>95140980
So, what's stopping Batman from just sucker-punching Riddler right now and taking him to the cops? Now that Joker is pretty much done for he doesn't need him anymore.
>>
>>95141089
Riddler killed Kite Man's kid on the first Kite Man interlogue.

Also yeah, the whole issue is from a perspective of a D-List Villain. So really, what were you expecting? Kite-Man saves the day?

It literally has a page with Two-Face going on about how now that they're with Batman they have to stop killing people.

Batman sided with Riddler because despite how edgy this Riddler is, he's still not as crazy as Joker and can be reasoned with.
>>
>>95141198
should have read the first interlude then.
>>
>>95142199
the rest of Riddler's crew probably, we already know that he's gonna betray Nygma since Nygma hinted about Batman deserving the beat down Bane's gonna give him because of shit that went down during The War of Jokes and Riddles

I mean,i guess i understand them giving kite man a backstory to put drama in the story, but like, the joke with him is gone. It isnt funny anymore,so if they do it again once the story is over, its not gonna be funny.
Also,in retrospective,he aint that deep of a character either. I mean i pity him,but i dont think this kite man is a better character just because of tragedy.
In any case it just seems someone wanted to make a story of a man involved in the war and thought kite man was the best man for it.

I can't imagine what the sales will look like by the time this shit wraps up. I haven't met or spoken to a single person who's enjoyed it.

I honestly don't know if I've heard anyone say they like any of the arcs after I Am Gotham. His only good issues are Swampy and Fudd.

Do we really have to suffer King's garbage for another couple of years? If it goes below 100K again can't they just axe him?
>>
>>95144753
>His only good issues are Swampy and Fudd.
First issue of "The Button" was good as well.
I was also suprised how good it sells compared to how little sense every arc makes but then I saw r/comicbooks posting about it, which was 24/7 kingwank. I guess it has an audience.
>>
>>95144926
Yeahhh, I actually liked the pacing and the story itself. I know a lot of people disliked that it literally moved the story 2 minutes forward but I appreciated it as being a good issue.

You're right though, upon googling the response it seems like there are some people blinded by their love of his shitty little trilogy (wasn't really shitty little but still...) that they'll ignore how much he's either phoning it in or how little he cares for batman.
>>
>>95144753
King seemins more interested in writing about bat characters then batman himself. Thats why Batman makes stuoid ass decisions or sidevwith folks he would never side with. Just so King can write them.
>>
>>95140837
Kite Man is the best thing about this arc.
>>
>>95145172

>>
>>95140980
yikes
>>
>>95141697
Are you serious dude? Myth of Sissyphus is the whole reason its an overused trope. Everyone has read Camus because its entry level philosophy 101 shit and then everyone thinks they're being so clever putting it into their story despite the fact that their "deep philosophical insight" is understood by every community college freshmen looking to get an easy A.
>>
>>95145234
his other books may not be my taste, and I do think Vision is legitimately bad, but there's more merit in them than his Batshit.

>>95145291
I think theres something there but I think it goes further. He cannot write a legitimate hero. Personally I think King needs psychological help. And I don't say that lightly. Please don't REE about that. Just disagree if you must. But the dude refuses to write a book without including clear cries for help. Every character is a barel functioning depression or angst ridden fuck.

Drawing a parallel between being batman and self-harm because of depression isn't a bad idea. Having bruce actually be a self-harmer is a bad idea.
>>
>>95145361
Why do they keep cutting themselves?
>>
>>95145310

It's understood by fuck all philosophy freshmen, because most philosophy student don't understand irony and think Nietzsche was talking about strongmen rather than artists.

Is King's use of Camus's philosophy a bit hamfisted? Maybe, but having someone like "Hell yeah - Kite Man" following Camus's worldview is quite interesting for the character, especially when one compares him to Batman who very much follows a more ubermenschian philosophy.
>>
>>95145361
I think you actually have a point, anon. The guy worked under the most shady organization after all.
>>
>>95145310
Are you fucking serious? Anyone who says that a writer cannot reference a classical myth is aids an idiot.
>>
>>95140957
its komikino you just dont get it
>>
>>95145399
Literally almost every single one.

>>95145470
True, I can only imagine Bourne Ultimatum situation they had the dude in. Bag over the head and all.
>>
>>95140808
I will say the Kite Man issues were the best so far but only because Janin isn't on the art. Otherwise it's just as shitty as most of what King's done with this book.
>>
>>95145523
There's a difference between a clever reference to a classical myth and a hamfisted insert of an already overused philosophical worldview. King isn't even trying to be subtle here. Kiteman literally summarizes Camus' thesis in a conversation with his son? Its silly and obvious and seems completely unnecessary. We already got an outline of Kiteman's absurdist philosophy through his entire monologue about accepting his life as a joke. But just in case you didn't get it, King has to beat you over the head with an overt reference to Camus' essay.
>>
>>95145172
>Arc about a war between Riddler & Joker
>Best part is Kite man
>>
>>95145444
Remind me again where the ubermensch cuts his wrists and why tying Kite Man to absurdism is anything other than obvious and lazy?
>>
>>95145444
I feel like you're a King fan who didn't necesarily read any batman before. So you post that image to make it look as if you have (even though it's literally the google result for "which batman stories do i read to sound cool".

I'm not attacking you, per se. It just seems you're in this for King's ideas rather than Batman. Which I think is King's problem too. He wants to write his story rather than write a Batman story.
>>
>>95146653
It goes further than that, he fundamentally misunderstands the biggest character in the medium he chooses to work in.
>>
>>95146044
Imagine being this pretentious.
>>
>>95145361
I don't know, tragedy is always the easiest story, everybody knows that, its' just a cheap trick, that's why there are so many "dark" stories in comics, I'd say it's their favorite plot.
>>
>>95146806
You're being just as pretentious. It really just comes down to how you feel about the incorporation of such material.

>Anyone who says that a writer cannot reference a classical myth is aids an idiot.

setting aside the sloppy semantics, this isn't what he said at all. You're acting as if incorporating Camus into the story it's automatically good. he's saying it's hamfisted which makes it bad, and cliche which makes it worse.

Neither is right, its both opinion, but don't act like he's the pretentious one here.

>>95146742
See, I'm divided on that point. I think he understands that he wasn't going to "make his mark" unless he toyed with the concept of Batman. The problem is, especially after Snyder's terrible run, we just want Batman to be Batman. And instead we're getting "wouldn't it be cool if Batman were like this" in a non-"what-if" story.
>>
>>95146806
King is literally pretension bingo.
>>
>>95146044
I hate fuckers like you who shit on the idea of writing as an artistic medium. It's very easy to tell when someone just doesn't appreciate creative writing, they are unimaginative and want to rob the story of all character.
>>
>>95146894
>You're being just as pretentious.
Not even close.
>You're acting as if incorporating Camus into the story it's automatically good
No I am not, I'm saying anyone who says using literally allusions is lazy isn't very literate minded.
>it's hamfisted
No it is not, you just arbitrarily decided that.
>>
>>95147046
I hate children like you who think base level philosphy is creative.

That his point and now mine. You and the other faggot are literally lobbing "you don't like creativity" when he's actually saying that what you like isn't creative.

Fuck off. Jesus christ the juvenile posts this past few months have made this place worse and worse. King isn't good just because you think he's good. he isn't infallible. Philosophy in writing isn't inherently good or creative.

I hate fuckers like you with no sense of quality.

>they are unimaginative and want to rob the story of all character.
what character? The character of Kings stories is literally "this shit is so heavy and burdensome and im so depressed. the world is just TOO real." before adding some high school level intellect in the last three pages for faggots like you to marvel at.
>>
>>95147168
>No I am not, I'm saying anyone who says using literally allusions is lazy isn't very literate minded.

Do it faggot. You can't.

Yes it is you just arbitrarily decided is wasn't. See how that works? Opinions. We all have them.

He is, He is objectively being a pretentious twat and honestly you're coming off as a pretentious twat yourself.
>>
>>95147274
I didn't say he was. If you quote the first part of that I called both of you pretentious.

You clearly don't know what the word objectively is. Only a pretentious twat would call a subjective opinion objective.
>>
>>95147227
>isn't creative.
Fuck you, Kite man turning to be a Joker Loyalist with an absurdist world view and a backstory that actually play into the main story arc? That's creative as fuck.

In my opinion it isn't. I don't see why you're sitting here stating your opinion as objective fact while calling others pretentious.

I really don't care. I'm simply pointing out that your view here is pretentious. Which you continue to be.
>>
>>95147390
>>95147512
It's a poorly executed lazy reference. Kite Man is inherently absurd, making it explicit and literal in the most obvious manner imaginable is not good writing.
>>
>>95141898
Lazy writers prefer to have him talk to himself instead of trying to remember how his character works.
>>
>>95147512
you saying it isn't subjective doesn't change the actual meaning of that word. Beside the fact that I agree with him that Sisyphus is cliche enough to be devoid of any merit, that's actually a text book example of a subjective reason for not liking something.
>>
>>95147699
How is it not?
>>
>>95141898
>>95147722
Even in the fucking TAS he had schizo tendencies. That's fairly well used for Two-Face.

Is Kite man really that absurd tho?
>>
>>95147789
His name is Kite Man.
>>
>>95140980
So let me get this straight: King turned Kite Man into a beloved meme character simply through the catch phrase "Kite Man, hell yeah?"

So this is the power of comic book writing. Glad I dropped this shit.
>>
>>95147771
Saying one example is lazy is not the same as saying the general practice is lazy. If you can't see the difference there I can't believe you function on a daily basis. I'm dead fucking serious. There's a massive difference between the two.

You've wasted all of our time now that you've essentially proven how retarded you are.

How am I shitting on writing as an artistic medium? I'm trying to hold the medium to a higher standard. How is literally summing up someone else's work creative? That is the opposite of creative. Its derivative. For the record I think writing is the single best artistic medium.

>>95147168
I never said using literal allusions is lazy. The way it is specifically being used in this instance is lazy. But I see that we're going down the path of subjectivity here so I won't bother arguing.

>>95147274
>objectively being pretentious
kek thanks mate this one was good for a laugh

>>95147330
My problem isn't with the philosophical viewpoint of Kiteman in this story. Kiteman being an absurdist actually makes a lot of sense and is quite funny. My problem is with the way King conveys this fact to the reader, by having Kiteman actually sum up Camus' writing in a monologue. It reads to me as King having little faith in the intelligence of his reader and deciding to spell out his influences and intentions in the most obvious way possible.

>>95147390
Again, not my argument. The success or failure of a reference or allusion is dependent on the context. Here the context is Kiteman explicitly summarizing his philosophy by directly pulling from Camus in a conversation with his young son. It fails on multiple levels.

I'm worse, through IAMGOTHAM I defended the dude from Snyderfags (the worse kind, the Scott Snyderfags) on here. And all the way up to the end of IAS too. Even past the self-harm bit.

But it's just very bad. In rooftops batman got his throat slashed and was completely fine. robins fight off page, get roasted off page, hanged off page, remain hanging on page, heal off page. batman consistently gets his ass kicked BY FUCKING BANE for two arcs surrounding the throat slashing and then finished FUCKING BANE with a headbutt. Another shart of a finish.

I would love more of the button type shit (not necessarily a tie-in jernt just the type of story) or the Swampy issue. The fucking elmer fudd was good too.

I just don't understand why every writer has to try to do some cryptic "I'm changing it all and making my mark" type shit. Just watch TAS, read some Alan Grant Denny or O'niel and write fucking batman. Stop trying to be Frank Miller(aside from year one). Stop trying to be Alan Moore. Bat writers need to enjoy those type of writers' work (at most) and then fucking forget it.

Honestly, King's writing is very weird. Sometimes it comes off as pretentious and really up it's own ass, and other times it works out and makes a comic seem unique. I'd say this was a cool issue, but I honestly can't say I don't see why people would call him a hack. He really does love writing everyone severely out of character. It's like this is the King-verse. On one hand, King sure knows how to craft a compelling story...but on the other hand, I really don't recognize this Batman at all. I want to like it, but I don't know...he just feels so useless...and so detached. Like in the rare moments he actually shows emotion it just doesn't feel genuine to me. This isn't Bruce Wayne. And this isn't Edward Nigma, either.

Kite Man's pathos feels more genuine. Maybe he King should just write a Kite Man book.

Where have you been for the past 5 years?

>>95159487
because it's never been touched on and it takes away the significance of "batman is his form of self harm" which was being used there. King does that a lot, sets up an interesting parallel and then beats you over the skull with it. Much like the issue where it's bane and bruce and it shows how they're the same.

That's always been the parallel he just beat the casuals over the head with it.

Having batman self harm as a child, and then implying that being Batman is the continuation of that doesn't work since Bruce never would have stopped self harming in such an obvious way. And if he HAD miraculously decided to channel that self-harm into being batman there is no way Alfred could allow a child who's admittedly attempting suicide to become a vigilante expressly to get to that end. It makes alfred worse than he's ever been in that he's not just allowing bruce to become batman he's allowing him to do it with the knowledge that he's a self-harmer and that's his way of harming himself.

Like I said, it's a good parallel, and one I don't think I've ever read being looked into too explicitly in a main book but making it so he's ACTUALLY slit his wrists before colors Alfred as incredibly terrible person to allow any of it to continue.

It takes the good idea and, like King is always want to do, beats you over the head with it until it's stupid.
>>
>>95164011
