They could have released an episode 3 anytime they fucking wanted. But valve doesn't work like that. Every one of their games has to be innovative and be some kind of spectacle. Neither Episode One nor Episode Two were innovative.

They both feature the exact same weapons arsenals and major features. The additional stuff is some new enemies and the odd gimmicky additional feature like the anti-strider ball. They could have easily done the same thing with Episode Three.

But yeah it's safe to say that Valve don't want to do a new half life at this stage unless they have something really cool to show off. Not that they really give a shit at this stage. It's not a secret that most of the talent has left the company now.

Okay so for anyone who doesn't know, valve's structure is fucking bizarre. There are no bosses, people choose to work on whatever they want. If they want to drop whatever they're doing and fuck off to another project, that's what they can do. Nobody at can valve can force another person to work on a project. This means that there is never anyone saying "guys stop making half-life 3 we can't do it", because if a bunch people at valve really wanted to do it then nobody could stop them. What happened is that people just didn't choose to work on half-life 3. There was not enough interest within in the company to make it.

Employees are free to hop from project to project, or start a new project and try to get other people on board (HL3 has had several attempts internally, each one with a less enthusiastic response from the other employees).

This is why TF2's been crippled--everyone got bored working on it and moved on to other projects. This is why Valve's done retarded shit no one cared about (Steam Boxes)--a passion project that got hyped internally but had no actual demand. And this is why all the writers left--they realized no one wanted to do story intensive games anymore and knew, given the fact employees can do what they want, there'd never be any more story driven games.

Half-Life is about as dead as it gets. The writers jumped ship. The story released. The parent company has lost all interest, and judging from stories from within the company, getting anyone to even look its way is like pulling teeth. Valve certainly isn't going to sell it either, so even interested parties can't touch it.

It's time to accept it.

Samurai Jack season 5, the ORIGINAL season 5, that might've not had Ashi and things that were added later on.

According to Genndy on the Adult Swim Q&A, he was intending to finish up Samurai jack after working on Clone Wars, be it by a movie or a season 5 or what have you, and his bosses were totally game for it. But then all of a sudden, there was a management shift at Cartoon network; Genndy's old bosses left and new ones came in. The new execs just didn't "get" Genndy's work, and were not willing to renew his contract, so he packed his bags in September 2005 and moved to Orphanage Animation.

Kinda feel like /co/ doesn't really understand the point of the thread. It isn't "really good unfinished works". Spectacular Spiderman and Teen Titans got flat out cancelled because action cartoons never live long.

It's more like a sequel or season that COULD have existed by now, the creators could have been making it at any time, but for some ungodly reason doesn't, and likely will never.

Episode 2 came out a decade ago when there was the original Xbox. They've already released the PS4Pro and the Xbox One X is coming out soon, meaning it will be about 3 console generations since it came out. At this point on a technological level, most games except for Steam Early Access and Indie shit are superior to episode 2.

Valve announced 3 games they're working on, 2 of them are confirmed VR and the one non-VR game is a fucking card game for their cash cow DOTA II. Everyone is making card games to the point where its over-saturated with games like Gwent, Elder Scrolls Legends, Hearthstone and now this because everyone wants to copy Blizzard for a quick buck, just like all those "WOW Killers" that killed MMO's.

The employee's can do whatever they want at Valve and are trying to keep the HTC Vive alive and copy the magic of Hearthstone by using DOTA II as a marketing tool. Its easy fucking money and everyone is doing it, leaving the people with actual vision for a game like Episode 3 in the cold as no one wants to work on a project with any risk when they could make a cheap card game that will roll in money, thus causing them to leave.

In short, Valve has become the profit obsessed company it started off trying to prove that a good community is what matters and now its run by being trying to copy other successful projects like card games, leaving behind their original community they helped formed.

I hope when the company goes public that EA buys out all their shares and destroys them slowly like Bioware.
