You're welcome, comrade. Gaupol is apparently only fully supported on Linux and you might have issues with the builtin video player if you use Windows. (I wouldn't know, I don't use Windows)

I never used the program before, but I immediately liked the simplicity. You just play/pause the video with P and press J when you want to add subs at the current position. You press O to play only the part of the video where currently highlighted subs apply. It's quick and dirty, just how I like it.

As for gaupol, there's an outstanding gtk bug (since 2014... yeah, gtk) which prevents gstreamer from working on windows. You could use docker or windows bash + xming, but you could also use literally any other subtool you'd like. There are many excellent options available.

I think the "fansubbing standards" is kind of the issue here. I'm fairly sure you could transcribe a 20 minute episode and spit out a shitty translation in about 1-2 hours at most. I'm not asking for an animated, typeset .ass with every joke and pun accurately matched with an English version and a karaoke of the opening theme.

I would be unironically fine with somebody writing down the French lines and uploading just that, nothing else, not even timecodes.

old timer here, roughly, we had between half and 3/4th of new blood with every season/OAV release

Compared to a standard /a/ subbing team, by far our biggest time sink is having people from different timezones. That adds huge delays when you have to wait between each step of translation, proofreading and quality check.
Of course, being an improvised mishmash of volunteers with mostly no experience in the thing also doesn't help.

With Ad alone (not to mention the Elicu Xelor) they have a chance to knock out quite a few. Assuming other Gods wouldn't intervene immediately and stomp them down. Also they get a snow ball effect. Once you replace one you've got a dedicated God on your side to help fight the other Gods.
If they left the heavy hitters last they could potentially have the majority of the pantheon fighting against the remainders.

The issue with multiple releases on the internet is that usually what comes first tends to stick and spread. So at least within one team, avoiding multiple releases and keeping consistency is preferable. It already pains me that episode 2 is on its V2 after some mistakes slipped through QC.

As a blatant example of this phenomenon, take episode 5 of season 1. This episode has had a big overhaul of its english subtitles, and used the TV version as a raw, which had reworked graphics, a few extra scenes and dialogues and had the real voice actors.
Yet, almost every torrent, bundle or download source I've come upon uses the old version, with crappy subs and the early Ankama webTV version as a raw, with the pilot placeholder VAs.
Same thing with episode 4 that's missing the end credits sketch or episode 26 missing the end credits epilogue, confusing people about you know who's fate

The first thing spreading (there are already third party English and Spanish subs out there before the fansub team's ones) will have much less of an impact as opposed to who's in charge of uploading the S1/2/3 compilation torrents and Mega folders 3-4 years down the line, and who's actively making sure they don't go down. If a fansub team releases mint quality 1080p accurately subbed versions yet the only thing you can find are shitty stream sites because nobody else bothered making them accessible, it doesn't really matter who subbed them first or how far they spread.

The same way, if you take so long to release the subs that people will say fuck it and try to do it themselves and take the first thing that's out there, you also kind of shot yourself in the foot. It's kind of a "quality or speed, pick one" situation.
