As I said the last time we had this thread, I'd argue /co/ isn't even (entirely) the problem.

The problem is that /co/ never sets realistic goals. It's always "lol let's make an ongoing comic when no one knows how to draw and no drawfag is going to shackle themselves to this trainwreck for months on end" or "lorefag until the idea gets played out to death and the writefags leave". /co/co/ lasted for as long as it did because "progress" for /co/co/ translated to "one writefag wrote some greentexts continuing the story".

Why can't /co/ just write fanfiction with some art attatched? Or make simple song parodies? Or shitty meme videos like the /sug/ compilations? Those are attainable goals.

This has been a rampant problem in /i/ lately. It resulted in the board becoming more hostile to requests because a lot of the rejects from /trash/ show up there whenever some anon looking to work a bit on their art fires up a request thread. Granted, the request thread and the oc thread there has somewhat curved this but not by much.

I think a major problem is that /co/ projects need anons willing to put the work in as editors/management, which require very different skills and actions than just being idea guys. Many projects get some movement happening early on because there's a core of idea guys willing to put in at least some initial work coordinating/directing things. But that falls apart soon after when this core begins to pursue all their different ideas and focus more on the fun stuff like lore and really basic plotting, as opposed to things like organizing who scripts/draws what and making sure there's some follow-up on these actions.

As this progresses, new people join the threads, the project crosses a churning sea of idea guys until you have two, three, four dozen people trying to run the show but put the bare minimum into non-fun stuff, and the centre cannot hold.

This is why any decent idea on /co/ should try to move off 4chan as soon as possible, in order to prevent this endless churn of idea guys and to try to create some semblance of an organized editorial structure. Think Katawa Shoujo.

Spooky threads were pretty nice two years ago but then waifufags insisted on starting them in September then keeping them constant for the entire month of October and even a little bit after that. Then they started trying to push it throughout the year with full moon/end of the month threads. It just got tiring and there was never enough content to justify the sheer quantity of threads beyond anons begging for art. I'm actually kind of glad Herny decided to sit out most of last year, at least maybe posters will learn some moderation.

For an artist, there is hardly any pay-off in taking part in one of several /co/-projects, because you know, you'd have to take the greater part of the workload and have to have the experience in creating a comic(paneling and such) to actually create something worthwhile, yet anons around here don't even bother scribbling a raw script wich would take a big part of the work as the artist doesn't have to invest time thinking about the paneling and such and "just" would have to refine the art which is stil a load of work but atleast doesn't get you as frustrated as doing almost everything alone.

The most you get here is written scripts which it isn't enough as it leaves a lot open to the artist to come up with.

I don't know if it counts as a failed /co/ project or even a /co/ project, but it started on /co/, so might as well post it here.

It has all the problems you could imagine in an unsuccessful /co/llaboration. Lack of support from the rest of /co/, ideas weren't organized properly, not enough dedicated artists and writers, etc. Also, the name for it was pretty lame. "Team Teen" isn't really that attractive to those outside the project. But, yeah. Once Doodley walked out of the project, it just kinda died off.

As a former contributor, I would like to see this being revived, but it's understandable why it failed in the first place.

We pay artists to draw shit for us, we realized early on that free wasn't working. So we recruit new artists if one drops and get a steady supply of art for months.
