/co/ hates it in general because it hits too close to home, so they try to pretend like the characters within could never possibly exist in the real world even though every other thread on this board demonstrates otherwise.

We already had a thread like this when people were claiming that Marvel was killing the entire LCS industry with Squirell Girl and Captain Yassqueen.

The only successful LCSs have already deversified and do a ton of shit. We have three in my town: One is dedicated to WarHammer 40k AND Comics and has a dedicated crowd that comes in every day. One is the oldest one in town, which focuses on comics but is the premier card game place in town. The last one is way out in the burbs and looks like it only has room for three racks and a cashier's desk.

The only reason why the last one is around is because it's probably easier for kids in the burbs to go there than going into town.

The BIGGEST comic book shop in my area, though, it basically a mega entertainment store. Most of the floor is dedicated to music, with the walls dedicated to comics, video games, toys, an RPGs. It's been in business since the 70s and isn't stopping any time soon.

Loved the pilot and comic series, but I feel like Dorkin did a pretty bad job of making the Club look like a bunch of failures, considering how by the end, Josh was climbing up the corporate ladder in a moderately steady manner, Jerry had a steady relationship with a hot girl and was happy with his life, and Pete was doing what he loved and getting laid too.

Bill obviously got the worst cut out of the four by the end, but he also has the Firefly scene, burning up the comic book shop and converting two guys hired to stop his addiction back into nerd-dom through the power of speech alone, not to mention a fair amount of quotable lines, so I can't even call him a complete loser either. He came out of the series as a pretty fucking hard dude, even if he was pretty pathetic in a lot of categories.

The point of the last comic was that everyone but Bill had managed to turn their passions into something that could let them lead the kind of lives that they wanted to have. Three of them chose to (in their own ways) grow up. Bill was basically a "You're literally a single old school Eltingville Club style fuck-up from being me again" ghost of what could have been.

Nah, I think the point of the last comic was that even if everyone had "moved on" (some in better ways than others), the group (save Jerry) was still the Eltingville Club at heart: Overly cynical, mocking nerds that look down on the rest of the collective for their inferiority in the art of knowing and imitating inane, meaningless comics shit, even finishing up the comic with an over-the-top, moderately violent scenario that is the norm for them.

I don't consider any of the four of them to be anywhere near the level of a true degenerate - I think we can all agree we've seen much worse than them -, and I can respect the fact that they all managed to climb above the level of basement dwellers (even Bill seems to be getting out of that slump: he mentioned that his reason for coming to Comic-Con was to do business with some associates, and he seemed serious about it), but the only one who really grew up was Jerry. They're just the same dudes from all those years ago.
