Otfags like /tv/ or RLM are absolute cancer. They all hate Star Wars, but will unironically defend their position as a "true fan of the originals". Unfortunately, they're not even that. All OTfags are just TESBfags. They'll say ROTJ is garbage and "foreshadowed how bad the prequels will be", or that ANH was nothing extraordinary. In fact, the only Star Wars movie these people seem to enjoy outside of TESB is TFA, but that's just happened recently. Outside of that, they've acted the same since the film's release in 1980.

They dominate online Star Wars discussion boards. /swco/ is the only place someone can talk about Lucas or the PT positively, and even then these people raid the threads and act like they're being ousted for their "unique" opinion.

But worst of all is the damage its done to Star Wars. Not even 10 years ago, no one really hated the PT. They may not have liked it, but no one claimed Lucas raped their childhood or thought that death threats to Lucas were a justified reaction to the films. Then people like RLM come along and spout the same rhetoric day in and day out, tarnishing the PT's reputation with lies about its production, exaggerations if Lucas's control, and so on and so on. It's gotten to the point that when introducing people to Star Wars, they don't want to see the PT because "they heard it sucks". Its gotten so bad, that all the complaints were a major reason to why Lucas sold. Its gotten so bad, we got The Force Awakens.

Will we ever recover?

I'm now imagining Snoke on some sort of strange Star Wars merry-go-round, riding it round and round with a smile on his face, surrounded by guards while the Cantina Music plays in the background.
>>
>>95036194

This of course just raises the question of how not Isard, a glorified summer camp leader, some crazy dude from Alderaan, and whatever the fuck Snoke is supposed to be somehow managed to get not only the literal billions of men needed to maintain a navy like this, design and build ships of this magnitude with nobody noticing, and get the raw billions to TRILLIONS in credits just one ship like this must cost.

If you told me in TFA that the First Order was just funded by a couple of crazy rich dudes and isn't much bigger than what we saw I'd say it makes sense, but this is ridiculous. Sheev bankrupted the entire civilized galaxy and somehow Snoke can afford all bigger all better where his ship of the line is bigger than the Imperial's capital ships and his command ship is triple what Vader had.

You would literally have to be strip mining whole planets and robbing accounts for whole sectors of space to pay for a ship like that.
>>
>>95036194
The size is ridiculous but I like that they went with something other than a giant arrowhead for their Executor analogue
>>
>>95036295
It's as simple as 'they're from another galaxy. For all we know the galaxy Snoke's from could be twice as large as the known galaxy with twice the ship building resources.
>>
>>95036324

Except we've literally seen that plotline twice, maybe even three or four times depending on how you slice it.

If we're seriously going to excuse the wet fart that is not-Jacen's character motivation with him siding with a version of the Yuuzan Vong that's somehow boring, the only problem that group never had, it seems like there was never any real point to shelving the E.U. to begin with.

>>95035478
>>
>>95036341

Then you have the obvious problem of why the fuck does the First Order NEED all these big ass Dreadnoughts? Sheev wanted his to control systems through fear, but Snoke doesn't control those systems to begin with. They're mostly undefended and he just needs something to clear local PDF forces. If the republic was somehow still around and still had a full space fleet then maybe you could justify it, but Snoke is flying around in what's essentially a mini Death Star in order to fight ships that are smaller than blockade runners.
>>
>>95036341

>>
>>95036366

I think it kind of puts things into perspective a little bit.

There is literally no story beat in this trilogy thus far that isn't in some other EU story. Luke's order died in Dark Empire, his Nephew went bad in the Vong war, even before that we had invaders in the old marvel comics, we have like four different imperial successor organizations that all had way more original successor ships, and designs that were far more original to go with them.

For those of you keeping track at home, Dark Empire, Legacy, NJO, and old Marvel were literally never considered the best of what Star Wars had to offer, and I say this as fan of half the shit on that list. Dark Empire isn't even liked by half the authors that had to deal with it after(Zahn famously hates it with an autistic zeal), Legacy was ridiculously fucking edgy but at least the red imperial guard successors had a more obvious and distinct gimmick, and if nothing else they all gave us new and original designs. Compare an E-Wing to a new X-Wing and tell me which feels like the more obvious progression considering the models preceeding the X-Wing like the headhunter and Arc fighter.

We threw the baby out with the bathwater and are now cursed to an eternity of at best middle of the road stories. You can say the word hype all you want, but I can't really believe Lucasfilm even believes in 8 when they refuse to show a trailer and instead drip feed magazine covers and toy decals like this.

Not to defend them but this is how they've handled TFA and Rogue One. We also didn't get the main trailer until fall for them, so this just seems to be SOP for their movie marketing now.
>>
>>95036458
There's such a thing as keeping too tight a lid on things. That's why I like how Ron Howard's approaching the Han movie- he hasn't given us any real information but the way he tweets out little teases does more to help anticipation than long periods of silence the way the other movies have been handled.
>>
>>95036458

We got the main trailers for TFA and Rogue One in early August. It's September now so we're officially a month overdue on the schedules that were up for previous movies.

Basically everyone involved is also playing annoyingly coy, and just kind of assumes that mere peasants in the theater will buy tickets regardless and subsist on Vice articles and screencaps until the film hits the theater.

Pretty sure we got the main TFA trailer in mid-October, RO was probably around that time but I honestly don't remember.

You're right that they're being too stingy about this shit. They're assuming that it being a Star Wars movie is enough to build hype without them having to really do much. The sad part is they're probably right.
>>
It's like no one remembers how it was 2 years ago when we had no trailer since celebration in April and then suddenly the trailer drops in October and it's nonstop tv spot after tv spot every single day and you all got sick of it.
>>
I want to be frozen in carbonite and put on display, the thought is just so kinky
>>
>>95036473

Let me correct myself. We got A Trailer by early august.

Which is the point. Why am I, an anon even already on a Star Wars board, supposed to care about 8 sight unseen? The ship designs are so fucking bad even the top fan modelers are angry because they do better work for free(Seriously look at Ansel Hisao's post on the previous capital ship, he breaks down exactly why it's so shit). The characters in the last film were so shrouded in artificial mystery nothing much matters for them. The designs are either straight rehashes or plain bad.

I can get Rebels on my cable package already, and the comics are easy to get just on /co/. I don't have to go out of my way to have some kind of Star Wars product delivered to me. Lucasfilm needs to make a case to the audience that this film is worth driving to the theater and buying a ticket.
>>
>>95036438
As much as it all saddens me, I guess I'm kinda thankful to Disney for curing me from at least one fandom addiction. Other than sometimes revisiting Battlefront 2 and Empire at War with all the new mods that are still being made, I'm pretty much done with Star Wars. And I feel free.
>>
>>95036524
>We got A Trailer by early august.
Yeah, the one we got in April at Celebration. We got one of those for TLJ at this year's Celebration, too.
>>
>>95036486
>Basically everyone involved is also playing annoyingly coy, and just kind of assumes that mere peasants in the theater will buy tickets regardless and subsist on Vice articles and screencaps until the film hits the theater.

They will, though. TFA made two billion. The viewer retention obviously won't be 100%, but they'll make 1.5 minimum easily, even being as hush-hush as they are. I know of normies who are still excited for fucking Avatar 2 of all things, and that's easily comparable to the impact TFA had on the general audience. Never underestimate the power of the brand on people who go to cinema only two or three times a year.
>>
>>95036524
>Lucasfilm needs to make a case to the audience that this film is worth driving to the theater and buying a ticket.
Sadly they don't have to and they know it. All they need to do is show some occasional pictures and people will pre-order tickets on day one.

On a related note, how come no-one's put Aphra in the slave bikini yet? Someone like her, who owes money to god-knows-how-many shady dealers, ought to end up leashed to a Hutt or languishing in a Weequay slaver's harem for at least a little while.

In all honesty the only thing I care about is the D6 game I run weekly. Other than that I could legitimately just take or leave any individual thing coming out. You can't really blame anyone for that though. Fucking look at Marvel Comics, advertising that they're just now trying to have what's essentially a bare minimum standard in art and story years later. Or rebels, a show so shoddily made half the character rigs are improperly skin weighted. Or the X-Wing game, which took literal years to add the one ship that literally the entire community was begging for nonstop from almost day one, and even fucked that up with the wrong stats(but god help you if they forgot to add literally anything from Rebels, a show the playerbase never cared about). Or Battlefront, who's whole initial marketing campaign for 2 was "we finally have the same shit every other shooter comes with by default".

You begin to see a pattern here. Lucasfilm constantly ok's stupid, banal projects nobody asked for and once people complain they say "oh sorry it'll be good next time, we swear", and for some reason the audience is fucking dumb enough to believe them and go back like an abused housewife.

Could you imagine George handling the prequels or any related media like this? As in, the entire slew of shit from 1999 until like 2002 was buggy, lazy, and unfinished, and made the excuse that maybe you'd get an actually good story once the films were done? Nobody would have bought shit, and rightfully so.

>>

Yes

By doing a rehash and needing the heroes to be the underdogs, they made everything the same as in the OT.

No idea why they couldn't just have 2 large powers fighting it out; Imperial Remnants with some dark side influence (Snoke), and the NR with light side influence (Luke). But, they had to hit reset.

Seems to be a big deal in London. People were lining up from last night and there was a pop-up Mos Eisley Cantina pub on Oxford Street, apparently. Just don't know how far it's penetrated into the smaller towns. Opening night of TFA in the local cinema was me, my fiancee, and like four other people. I have to travel if I want to get in on the hype.
>>95036756

>>
>>95036733

The difference is the Genndy series was intended to be a complete product when it aired. It had it's own designs and it's own spin on existing ones and was able to actually bridge the gap between films. George changed his mind and overwrote shit. It's kind of what he does, really. But the series when it first came out at least was done.

When I rip on rebels it's not for nothing and it's not based on personal story tastes or the idea that it's not muh star wars. It's because it literally doesn't look good. In half the episodes Sabine's armor goes from rigid to bendy because Lucasfilm can't rig for shit. The eyes of every character are distracting because they reflect the light wrong. The detailing that should be modeled onto the geometry is just drawn on in fake pencil and they hope nobody notices. On a raw technical level Rebels looks like someone's rushed personal project.

Which is the problem. On a raw technical level vast quantities of star wars material looks like shit now. Go look at the latest issue of the main comic for another really obvious example.
>>
>>95036772
> I feel your pain, Slavfriend.

To be fair, literally nothing in the wave of new releases excites me, so i don't lose out that much. A few SW goodies i really want i order from outside the country anyways.

But I wasn't just talking about Genndy's series, Anon. The first Clone Wars multimedia project included multiple comic lines (including those connecting OT and PT, like the Jabiim shenanigans), many books, video games, all those alternate reality holonet articles etc. It was bigger than even Shadows of the Empire project and was concerned with working out the hype between 2002 and 2005.

I guess George considered all that just a marketing ploy of a project, while TCW was something personal to him.

So a Jabba standalone film. Is this really happening? Is it confirmed by Disney? Out of all the flurry of recent announcements, this one sounds the most like the kind of rumour you'd get from some unsourced talking head on YouTube.

I mean, don't get me wrong - Jabba's palace is firmly among my favourite sequences from all of SW. But a whole movie dealing with an enormous, barely-mobile, unsympathetic main character who needs subtitles?
Sounds like a European art-film is the only context where that premise could fly. What the hell are they gonna do with him?
>>
>>95037165
My bet:
A Pulp Fiction style series of thinly-related vignettes dealing with the assortment of goons, mooks and ne'er-do-wells in Jabba's circle all taking place over the course of a day.
Make it the Magnolia of Star Wars.
>>
>>95037097
Disney are so fucking cheap and stingy they won't even give Rebels the same budget that TCW got.
>>
>>95037165

>>
>>95037325
I absolutely don't mind sw doing stuff for younger audiences. Forces of Destiny and whatever else, it's all perfectly fine. The story is such that it can be good ol' goodies vs. baddies lighthearted fun, and more in depth Luceno-style political machinations. It can hold both for different audiences.
I just wish that, since they're good at catering to the younger demographic, us older fans could get something a bit more grownup, too. Rogue One surely proved the appetite for bleakerer, more morally grey stories.
Saw, for instance, is out of place in Rebels, I feel. You just can't give the full weight to him and his interplanetary civilian-massacre-junta in that kind of show.

Wait a fucking second.

Ship class (unless it's a variation, like VSD-II) is called by the name of the first ship produced. So either the ship should be called Mega (since it's the first and only representative of the class), or the class should be "Supremacy-class Star Dreadnaught".

If it's INTENDED to be the one and only, unique ship, than no class is needed at all and it's de-facto a glorified personal yacht. Like Jerec's unique SSD Vengeance from the old EU.

Do you really think the writers of the new trilogy have any deeper knowledge of Star Wars than seeing the OT a couple of times? They are more or less copy pasting scenes and plot elements from the original OT, just making things bigger.

>A BIGGER Star Destroyer

There is no way they would even think twice about calling it the mega class rather than the Supremacy Class. It wouldn't even cross their mind. For them the Executor was probably as "Super-class Star Destroyer".

Sweet thanks. Was there anything actually connecting them thematically? Or did they just call it a series for the sake of it?

Anyone doing the Force Friday scan thing?

The Disney website says a bunch of online retailers have ar codes to scan but I've not been able to find any.
>>
>>95039256
what does it do?
>>
>>95039235

Not too sure, they were supposed to focus on one of the big three in turn and describe an adventure they have post-Yavin. Nothing really connects them other than one is the star of the show and their perspective dominates the story.

I remember really enjoying Honor Among Thieves... though it sort of wusses out at the end. Razor's Edge had a really cool idea (regarding some Alderaanian survivors) and had a good handle on Leia's 'voice' but the adventure felt really small time.

You scan posters through an app, and then you get to see 3d models of TLJ characters.

As unoriginal as most of the FO's ships are, I kind of like the idea of the Empire's successors using updated versions of the Empire's designs and learning from their mistakes.

It feels like most of the FO vehicles were designed in and out of universe to avoid the flaws and weaknesses of the original Imperial craft they're inspired by - shielded starfighters, the Recusant's less exposed bridge, the new walkers being cable-proof etc. Even Starkiller Base, as awful as it is, doesn't have have a big glaring obvious weakspot to exploit, with the Resistance needing sheer dumb luck and a shitload of firepower to punch a hole in it and take it down.

The issue with past ship design versus current ship design is that it usually came down to the kind of aesthetic Lucas wanted to depict in regards to the setting at large. The OT was then 70s contemporary military industrial complex. The PT was 50s sci-fi. The ST doesn't seem to have had a central aesthetic to mold itself around. There's so much they could have done with the idea of a "post-Empire" aesthetic but they instead just went with literal OT sequel. They could have gone with 2000s military industrial complex what with stealth aesthetic becoming the norm in everything we build. Though the greatest offender I suppose would actually be 90s and 2000s sci-fi for being mostly bland and uninspiring.

The FO troop transport is altogether a terrible design. Well, the created the first 2 seasons of TCW with Genndy in mind. That's why there's references to Ventress and Anakin's duel, and the translation of Genndy designs form 2D to 3D. Around season 3 however, Lucas and I assume the rest of the crew didn't want to limit the show's ending to fit within the Genndy series, so they pulled away from it. This is also why when TCW got the model upgrades, they strayed from Genndy's angular design and when for a slightly softer style to being it's own thing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if the prequels are George going back and making sure his poetry rhymed, even clunkily, then the sequels are Disney copy-pasting the original verse, changing a few words, and tacking it on the end.

Really hard to find a good picture of both at the same angle so this'll have to do.
The FO version has an overall smoother look compared to the more greebley OG TIE, thicker wing connectors and struts, a larger cockpit window, different guns and an added antenna on the right side.

Mostly just minor detailing but it's not just the original model with a new paint job.

>>
>>95042493
Except Lucas and Lucasfilm don't consider them as part of their story that they want to tell. That's why it's LEGENDS; some story someone made up to explain something that has no relation to what may have actually happened, insofar as "actually happened" can be used to refer to a fictional universe.

You should ask your friend if he wants to see non-canon material. If he says he does not want to see a cartoon which has no bearing whatsoever on what the actual makers of Star Wars content do, then that is his prerogative. If he does want to watch it anyway to see their perspective then great.
>>
>>95042518
Parts of it are implied canon though. Genndy only became non canon around Season 2. That's why Dooku references Ventress wanting revenge in the movie.
>>

that's because the FO tie is a heavily phonged CGI model

You mean, it shows the Jedi's encounter with General Genndy, not Grievous.

>shows how Asajj joined Count Dooku

>>95042544
There's no real sense it watching something that isn't going to tie into new material and is contradicted by new material.

This is the attitude I'll never understand about nerds.

Should I skip out on Forrest Gump because it's just a standalone movie and never comes up again? Or should I ignore it because it's not canon to the book and its sequel?

> and it isn't really that good anyways.

>>
>>95042625
Proofs?
>>
>>95042664
But I'm not wanting to show it to someone as a standalone thing. I'm showing it to someone as a continuation of the star wars story in chronological order.
>>
>>95042587
But all that stuff has been recanonized. The literal episodes aren't canon but would you rather tell someone some stuff happened with some characters they don't know yet or just show them a few 5 minute episodes to show them stuff that's basically canon in all but the literal media they appear in? The only one I could see having a problem with is the Dantooine episode since it's a little over the top and not too important.

Also these events literally do have a bearing on future material since they're literally canon. In any future references to Asajj's backstory they're going to mention the events of genndywars since Dark Disciple established it's events (not the literal episodes) as canon. Same goes for Anakin's knighting (thanks to TCW and Rebels), and Grevious' battle on Hypori (thanks to Catalyst).

Forrest Gump isn't an interconnected epic saga. Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories have a "canon"; The Lost World does not. And The Lost World: Jurassic Park has no relation to it whatsoever.
>>
>>95042696
It's not really a continuation of the Star Wars story though because it had no input for the actual creators of canon Star Wars content. It's merely the highest quality animated fanfiction in history.

Ask your friend if he wants to see material that has no bearing on Star Wars but is ostensibly set in the same universe. Ask him if he wants to watch the LEGO Freemaker Adventures. If he says yes, then show it to him, if he declines because he only wants the "real" story, then don't force it upon him.
>>

>This is the attitude I'll never understand about nerds.
>Should I skip out on Forrest Gump because it's just a standalone movie and never comes up again? Or should I ignore it because it's not canon to the book and its sequel?
Forrest Gump isn't a franchise so your argument holds no weight. It's two books and one movie adaptation. That's entirely different from an 8-movie saga that's interconnected and has two TV shows(Rebels and TCW).

>Now THAT is a fine opinion to have. If you don't like it, that's literally the only thing that should matter.
no, because even if I don't like something, it can still be part of canon and influence future works.

I'm not a fan of the aftermath trilogy, but since it's canon I won't just ignore it because I know it will influence future stories.

Genndy Wars is not canon(and like I've said has been contradicted) and will not play into anything in the future so it can be ignored.

Okay this is a lie my dude.

I'm with you about Genddywars not being canon or even worth watching but Lucas very much did watch and enjoy it for what it is. He said he wanted an anime-inspired Star Wars, and he got it.

I think ultimately he was disappointed that it was just action pieces with little important events. The most important part of the story was told in an EU book that was coming out already. (Labyrinth of Greivous or whatever)

It probably kickstarted his interest in doing a proper Star Wars cartoon though, especially considering he kept the stylized aesthetics from Genddys cartoon, probably so the show would be familiar to kids.

The point is that 90% of Star Wars fans have seen Genndywars and like 50% of it has been recanonized so why the fuck wouldn't you just show someone it? 'Oh it's not literally canon' No shit sherlock! Nobody cares though. Nobody being introduced to Star Wars is going to give a fuck about these episodes being 'LITERAL 100% HOLY AND RIGHTEOUS CANON THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IRL FOR REALSIES'. Did Asajj fight in an arena in Rattaak when she joined Dooku? Yes. Did Anakin get knighted at the beginning of the Clone Wars with that exact same speech? Yes. Was 3PO painted gold in between AotC and TCW? Yes. Did Anakin become R2's master before TCW? Yes. Did Grevious battle a bunch of Jedi on Hypori at the start of the Clone Wars? Yes. So why wouldn't you just show all of this shit to a newcomer who is likely gonna branch off into EU shit anyways in a little 20 minute session instead of slamming your fist down and shouting 'NO THIS ISNT CANON REEEEEEEEEE' and making them miss out on not only important canon lore but important meta information by not showing them the show that inspired TCW?

>Canon is whatever the fuck you want it to be.
No, it literally isnt.

Canon is a tool mutually agreed upon by writers and the fans that ensures development and continuity between releases makes sense. It's to make for a much more securely structured experience. It's how we know that Hera and the Ghost are in Rogue One. It's to stop writers from contradicting each other in the novels, or killing off each others characters like they did in the EU (cough-Traviss-cough)

You can pick and choose which stories you want to enjoy, but you can't pick and choose what is canon, because non-canon stuff is almost certainly not going to fit into canon.

For example; All the Kotor stuff? Out, you can't have a single thing from those games/comics/books because the aesthetics and technology is being completely re-worked to be more appropriate. By claiming something from that era in the EU is still canon to you, is creating a stupid and huge continuity problem in your own shitty headcanon that nobody besides you and other EUfags will agree upon.

Most of us are going to watch a three-movie trilogy we dont particularly like either.

We do it because we're Star Wars fans and we care about the world overall, even if we don't particularly love every single story. You cant just pretend everything you dislike isn't canon, and everything you like is.

Imagine claiming TLJ was canon, but not Aftermath or TFA, both of which clearly set and and lead into TLJ as intended. But the Thrawn trilogy is, or some shit. It'd be silly.

Look the end all be all is that Star Wars is media meant to be enjoyed. Some people enjoy it because of canon connections but they do that because they've likely experienced the crappy canon of the EU. However other people don't care and just want fun stories. Showing a newcomer Star Wars and forcing them to experience it the way most of us enjoy it (with only canon) is just wrong because we're depriving them of possible enjoyment. Show them canon but don't be afraid to show them stuff like Dark Forces or Genndywars too.

That's true of course but you should be mindful of their wishes too. Ask them if they to indulge every random possible what-if scenario of Star Wars lore or whether they want to stick solely to Lucas' vision and what is considered "historical". First and foremost I encourage and show people canon stuff because thats where all the relevant character development and worldbuilding that is leading into brand new 2017-2020 content is. You also underestimate how much people care more about the newer and relevant stuff, rather than checking out the "classics".Just look at capeshit for example, how many people do you think actually takes the time out to go read the oldies?

If they end up being huge fans, big enough that they are curious about the EU and wouldn't mind checking it out, then by all means I would direct them to some of my old personal favorites. But that comes after they are hooked and following Star Wars passionately. If they're not big enough fans to follow canon, I do not believe they would be big enough fans to go back to experience 10-20-year-old comics/books/games.

How? What more do you need to know?

"She was for the empire and now has her own star destroyer." Boom, taken care of.

Jesus fucking christ, no you don't. I bet most people reading bloodlines had no idea she was in a comic. She's a supporting character pilot. The only other detail you need to know (and even then, just barely) is that she's from Alderaan, and I'd bet that's mentioned in Bloodlines too.

Did you have trouble understand A New Hope when you first saw it because you didn't know the origins of Tarkin and Vader?

You're contradicting yourself all over the place here.

You claim that we can't understand Evaan if we don't read the Leia comic (even though you can). Then how can we understand Vader without watching the prequels?

You don't need to know someone's backstory to understand anything. Sure, it can add in some details, but 90% of the time they're irrelevant to the story at hand.

Example: Lord of the Rings. Do you think people struggled with those movies because they hadn't read the Hobbit?
>>
>>95043255
...what? Who's talking about adaptations?

Before Watchmen and Watchmen are both comic books set in the same universe.
>>
>>95043100
>You won't understand Pryce without seeing how she operates in Rebels.
Functionally, the Thrawn book does a better job introducing who Pryce is and what she's like because it covers more of her life and internal monologue than Rebels does.
>>

>>
>>95043100
>You won't care about Hera and Kanan's relationship nearly as much without first reading A New Dawn
How many people do you think read A New Dawn?

Do you think it's more or less than how many people watched the Rebels premiere?

A New Dawn might give a little more insight, and that's all well and good, but it's not necessary. Most Rebels viewers (aka KIDS) probably don't even know there's a book, let alone have read it.
>>
>>95043271
>Then how can we understand Vader without watching the prequels?
Different anon here, but that isnt a really good point. You understand Vader totally different after the prequels. Before I assumed he was some kind of warlord that went evil in his quest for power. I mean, he is a vet from the clone wars, and is big and bad and strong.

instead, he is the twisted up, corrupted version of space jesus. I makes me like sheev more, and makes me think about vader differently.

I dont think its necessary, but it totally changes your understanding.
>>
>>95043292
Exactly. If ANYTHING, Thrawn is better to read before Rebels because it introduces both Thrawn and Pryce, giving you their back story.

Yet I still managed to understand and enjoy Rebels just fine before the book was released.

Nope

>You claim that we can't understand Evaan if we don't read the Leia comic (even though you can). Then how can we understand Vader without watching the prequels?
Vader as a character is explained in the OT, where he was introduced. The PT Anakin is a lot different

the Leia comic is where Evaan was introduced and established.

>Example: Lord of the Rings. Do you think people struggled with those movies because they hadn't read the Hobbit?
The Hobbit did not introduce or explain the main characters of LOTR

Sure, and that's the whole point of tie-in fiction. I'm just talking about *necessity*. It's always cool to get backstory, but ultimately it's not needed to enjoy A New Hope.

How are we even arguing about this given that these are individual books that are literally made for the purposes of being read by themselves. They're literally stand alone books. Bilbo's not a main character of LOTR

Im gonna do it. im about to talk positively about grey jedi. But first im gonna qualify what I think is a good grey jedi, and the interpretation of the word that I am talking about.

Grey Jedi are Jedi that distanced themselves away from the order, but did not fall to the darkside. The are still EXPLICITLY Jedi, or Ex-Jedi, and not people who totally left the jedi order. This definition includes the likes of Jolee Bindo and Qui-Gon Jinn. I would imagine Yoda after the clone wars would have a similar mindset to them aswell.

This EXCLUDES characters like Revan, the Bindu,Starkiller, Revanites, or any other individuals with ambiguous or ambivalent moral standings.

Whats neat about these characters is that they can offer a more mystic approach to the force, and expands the order beyond the scope of a semi-militaristic cult that also functions as space cops. Its a refusal of the stricter, or "knightly" part of the order, and a focus on the more "monk like" aspect.

I mean, if a better word to describe the "Mystic Jedi" comes along, ill take it, but thats my piece.

Blow me up Swco, im ready for those (you)s
>>
>>95044341
But that's just a Protestant Jedi. Canonically the Coruscant Jedi Order of the Prequels is the Orthodox Jedi Order while assumingly any Jedi that refuse the structure of the Orthodox Jedi while still holding with their beliefs (Asajj's master, Luke, etc) would be considered a Protestant Jedi.

You're just describing a Jedi. No need to arbitrarily attach "grey" to the title then.

You see in TCW that Jedi fill a number of roles, and behave in different ways. You can be more detatched from fighting and more ingrained in the mystical aspects and still be a Jedi. Theres nothing contradictory there.

You don't call vigilantes "Grey Cops"

You don't call agnostics "Grey Christians"

You don't call bisexual people "Grey Gays" or "Grey Straights"

It's just not a thing.

If you're not in the Jedi Order, you're not "Jedi" anything. You're just you.

Ahsoka Tano was kicked out of the Jedi Order and didn't return. She's not a "Grey Jedi" she's just Ahsoka Tano the force wielder.

But they already do use Christian terminology since they have Orthodox Jedi.

Not him but you literally didn't refute any of his points. You basically just said 'umad XD'.

How about you refute my points or concede instead of just saying "umad bro"

> Are you the same buttblasted anon who hates the "mega" stardestroyer?
No? I like the design.

I cant refute your points, however im pretty sure they are a false equivalence. i mean, we dont do any of those things in real life.

However, when a cop doesnt follow the rules, we call him a "dirty cop". Still a cop, but indescribably different.

Agnostics who are christians are literally called "Agnostic Christians", in the same convention that we could call grey jedi, "grey jedi".

The "its just not a thing" point literally only stands up against using the word grey.

but this whole post isnt much of an argument. I just disagree with you, and wanted to mock the tone of your post as being aggressive.

I'm not mad, but the ID system would help us to roast the reylo fag who would respond to his own posts and then tell us we fell for his bait

It's not a false equivalence, it's just comparison

>However, when a cop doesnt follow the rules, we call him a "dirty cop". Still a cop, but indescribably different.
That refers to a corrupt or unethical cop, not just not following the rules

>Agnostics who are christians are literally called "Agnostic Christians", in the same convention that we could call grey jedi, "grey jedi".
No, they're just called Agnostics

>The "its just not a thing" point literally only stands up against using the word grey.
no, it completely holds up.

>but this whole post isnt much of an argument. I just disagree with you, and wanted to mock the tone of your post as being aggressive.
It is an argument, pretending that it's not just proves you can't actually refute it

Thats just not practically true. While there are several levels of police corruption, all of which can be described as "dirty"

>>95045270
>No, they're just called Agnostics
thats actually a common misconception. You can be either an Agnostic Christian, or an Agnostic Atheist, but just saying you are agnostic does not, and can not, fully describe a religious point of view.
