Because they wrote a story where conflicting needs and ideologies clashed. And then the suits decided that X-Men had to be wrong to fight against their own extinction through the fallout of other people's power struggle.
And nobody stood up to tell them that's impossible to do and morally bankrupt to try.
So they did exactly as they were told and wrote unconscienable shite because nothing matters anymore and society is doomed through its own complacency to believe willingly a comforting lie from the corporate overlords rather than get up and actually do something to address the glaring chasms in the social fabric.
