Ahoy roy.

Today I learned there's a song called Saturn Girl because the radio played it in relation to the scuttling of a NASA Saturn probe. I am pretty sure it isn't about Imra.

Haha time for autism!

Hello, Storyteller.

Is it just me or is the art for this book a bit... well, not good? It's, rough, to put it diplomatically.

He looks fine, just doesn't have delicious black hair. Hopefully they dye it.

So, to no one's surprise, Disney's Marvel's The Inhumans is fucking shit! I love that they ruined that one obscure Inhuman all the waifufaggots loved, that's actually legit awesome.

See, this is why I hate all the memes about all Texans being bigoted religious nutjobs. From living in Texas and New York, I can tell you no one in New York would do something like this.

Granted, I see lots of hugeass trucks like that around here covered in racist/misogynistic slogans too. But most people here seem to have a strong sense of duty to their fellow man.

FLOODING - THE ULTIMATE CRIME.

MOTHER NATURE HAS GOTTEN AWAY WITH TOO MUCH FOR TOO LONG. BUT NOW ONE BAD MOTHERFUCKER IS GONNA MAKE MOMMA PAY.
>>
>>95028803
The art in this has the black kids drawn at borderline COMIX grade racial caricature, so I think that was deliberate.
>>
>>95028884
>it's also fucking cool
>>
>>95028884
I dunno if the Punisher is like a Texas thing or an everything thing but I see it EVERYWHERE down here.

It would make more sense to have a Superman truck because you can't really punish a hurricane. Or can you?
>>
>>95028799
> one woman brought a steak.

I don't know, though, I think Comics Frank would probably use a hurricane as a way/excuse to murder looters.
>>
>>95028818
>>95028829
If this is deliberate, then it just ain't working for me, sorry.

I mean, I don't hate it, since it's still clear and generally on model, but I can't really enjoy it either. I much prefer cleaner styles.
>>

There's not not something to the whole "Punisher as toxic masculinity" meme, although I do love me some Frank

that's fair; the hand-lettering is something I run hot and cold on, specifically. The panel borders are also a very hand-done style.

There were helpers of course but most of the people I know from up there are the kind to make a post on social media and make a donation and do nothing else despite living IN the city.

I guess making sweeping statements about New York (even as my home state) is hypocritical since I'm criticizing people for doing the same to Texas, but from all my time there I never met anyone who was the type to get themselves involved in disaster relief.

Marvel can't even figure out how to make quality capeshit right now.

I say this all the time but I have no idea what the fuck they're doing.
>>
>>95029562
It's been lurking all along--the book sticking to the dude is borderline horror with the surrealism
>>
>>95029523
Sounds like a good use of EPIC.

Or a resurrection of the stand alone Marvel Graphic Novel.

>tfw people always ignore the diversity of shit that Marvel and DC used to put out so they can justify shitting on 'capefags'
>>
>>95029523
They are releasing an experimental comic that uses Twin Peaks-style incomprehensible dialogue and confusing pacing, it's called "America".
>>
>>95029585
Secret Wars was that rare 'natural relaunch' scenario but instead of really looking at things hard they cruised on the remnants of NOW! and didn't realize how stale they'd all gotten. And now Legacy really doesn't seem to have learned a damn thing.

>>95029603
I'm coming around to it just being whatever the fuck it feels like, at least it's not bland
>>
>>95029585
I don't think they do either. Nothing they're doing makes sense anymore....
>>
>>95029626
It's an ingenious strategy
>>
>>95029563
Even like the Gru cosmic we read is much weirder than what Marvel cosmic is now. It's not just Marvel: DC taps the New Gods and almost never makes them as high energy and weird as Kirby did.

I feel there are trends toward it but never a total embracing of it without being unironic - Gwenpool or w/e is like the ironic thing you get. They play D&D, it's self-aware, etc. But I want unbound weirdness. I'd need to argue this out either but recently I feel Standoff was kind of much more out there and stranger than Secret Empire actually turned out to be?
>>
>>95029603
Boy, I'll slap ya.
>>
>>95029523
>>95029537
>>95029563
Comics aren't allowed to be weird and surreal anymore. Everything must be super serious and grim and epic, because that equals good. True art is angsty.

TDKR was a mistake.
>>
>>95029592
The possibly shapeshifting statue of possibly Charles Xavier becoming a character of sorts is just perfect for this book.
>>
>>95029663
TDKR was kind of weird and surreal in a way though. Remember when Supes got hit by a nuke?
>>
>>95029663
>>95029690
TDKR was totally fucking weird. Sin City is too. Ronin, Elektra. Frank Miller's comics are weird.
>>
>>95029651
I liked Frankencastle so much because it felt like a new COMICS! moment as opposed to the "Hey look, we brought back something weird and funny like Capwolf!"

Standoff is now a frustrating pocket of unrealized potential.

>>95029719
Right, there's a lot of weird shit in Frank Miller comics
>>
>>95029719
Ronin was a trip, yeah. Elektra Lives Again is like a fever dream, but in a really good way.
>>
>>95029744
>>
>>95029719
Fuck, even 300 with it's blatant homo-fetishism is weird.
>>
>>95029782
>>
>>95029744
>it felt like a new COMICS! moment as opposed to the "Hey look, we brought back something weird and funny like Capwolf!"
100% agreed. There's of course something to be said of further exploring forgotten concepts but comics should also be open to fucking around as much as they want, because it's all going back to status quo in the end anyway.
>>
>>95029603

Unironically think this btw
>>
>>95029690
No, and neither did any of the fuckers who have heard of it, and tried to emulate it without knowing why it caught on with readers. All anyone saw was "TDKR was dark and serious.", and they assumed that's all it takes to be good. And decades later, comics are still plagued with the indestructible cancer that is TDKR's superficial influence.
>>
>>95029820
It's the old Wagner quote, "Kinder, schafft Neues!" (Children, make something new). Of course, making new characters is hard, but pitching a genre that a character hasn't done, maybe? That's why I liked Space Pirate Wondy so much.
>>
>>95029874
EGG CREAMS BABY
>>
>>95029874
Marvel Cosmic should be legitimately weird and metaphysical and not just pew pew space lasers and quips
>>
>>95029874
>rehashes Norse mythology for his operas
>tells people to make something new
jk :^) you know I loved Nibelung
>>
>>95029904
See also the bitching we did about JLD a few days back. Gruenwald Quasar was fucking nuts. I mentioned Gwenpool's D&D thing because Gru Quasar had like a comic/arc that could legitimately have been "let's make a D&D module and turn it into a comic" but it was not sending itself up, it just was that.
>>
>>95029921
To be fair, not just Norse.
>>
>>95029861
Hey man.

Some of that is Watchmen's fault too.
>>
>>95029904
I feel the same about DC Cosmic

quips and rainbow lasers is the cancer killing GL
>>
>>95029921
It's not a rehash, though--it's a highly imaginative syncretic work because there is nothing connecting Siegfried and Ragnarok, among other things, not to mention The Ring itself

>>95030010
If you have to keep the Skittles Corps they need to be weirder by far
>>
>>95029921
You're being unfair.

He also mined Arthurian myth.
>>
>>95029861
>>95029994
I think it's at least a decade before both stories that you get the shift.
>>
>>95030010
Agreed, with the caveat that the New Gods should be less metaphysical
>>
>>95030023
>>
>>95029874
Space Pirate Wondy was also helped by the fact it was damn good story of a character being taken out of her element and being forced to adapt, while applying her skills to this new situation. Which, actually, is very much in the spirit of Wonder Woman.

I would love to see another story like that, only this time, make it basically Macross with Wonder Woman. Just have Circe toss Themyscira into deep space, forcing Diana and the Amazons to slowly make their way home.
>>
>>95030043
>>
>>95029904
I genuinely enjoyed the whole Annihilation era of Marvel cosmic, but yeah, it full on abandoned that for the most part.

Which is a shame because if space isn't a good place to go full madness, what is?
>>
>>95030023
>If you have to keep the Skittles Corps they need to be weirder by far
yeah, they need to revamp everything but green and yellow and differentiate them better, you could get pretty fucking weird with the star sapphires especially if only a writer gave a fuck

it wouldn't hurt to make the greens a little weirder too

>>95030036

>>
>>95030074

>>
>>95030132
>>95030080
At least there was some weird shit in there with Warlock and the Church and some of the abstracts in addition to the politicking
>>
>>95030033
I can see what you're getting at there- Marvel's gradually deepening continuity and increasing focus on real world type issues and DC's flight away from Batman '66 starting around 1971 and the big creative shakeups (mostly O'Neil based) really set the groundwork for the eventual Grim'n'Gritty meme.

The Marvel and DC graphic novel programs that started up in the 70s did certainly lean more heavily in that direction too.

Ultimately, a lot of the blame can probably be attributed to the creation and ultimate dominance of the Direct Market, which really wanted Serious Customers with Serious Dollars and so needed Serious Books.

>yeah, they need to revamp everything but green and yellow and differentiate them better

All the momentum of Sinestro Corps War died soon after to me, when Johns retconned the Empire of Tears from being Cosmic Horrors into being "a race of Buff Aliens that got bullied by Manhunters".

Turning Star Sapphires into a more Green Lanternish corps worked, but I don't think they ever did much of worth with the whole "brainwashed slaves made to spread 'love'" angle that it seemed they had at the beginning.
>>
>>95030247
I'm disturbed by this...yet I can't look away...
>>
>>95030033
Oh I know. Things had already been getting there, but it was Watchmen and TDKR that really pushed it over the edge. It seems only now that things are starting to shift again, back to being slightly more lighthearted. Though there's still the obligation for everything to be EPICâ„¢.

They really don't. Infinity, AXIS, Fear Itself--which events do we know were meant to be events? I guess AGE OF ULTRON was shit but it was always planned as an event, right? Secret Invasion had a lot of setup but could have actually been in the two Bendis Avengers books itself fine.

What they SHOULD do is stop having all-encompassing crossovers and limit crossovers to related books.

Your big summer event should just be an extra big Avengers storyline.

You are making me kind of happy to not be a chicken farmer.

We're lousy with bears around here.
>>
oh fuck I love this story
I think I'm the only person who has it in shelfthreads
hey Graham, how do you feel about Lobdell's new creator owned work about a tranny hero
>>
>>95032444
It just launched Wednesday. Seems like it's his host site for other people to post articles on comics or whatever they want, kind of a spiritual successor to Island I guess.
>>
>>95032968
Lodbell's never been one to really avoid minority representation.
>>
>>95032444
Damn I guess BG namesearches here
>>
>>95030557
That's true. It's a bit BLOODLINES like, but it is pretty weird.
>>
>>95035843
will we get a series as awesome as Anima?! or Hitman

unironically the only good DC event ever
>>
>>95030593
Let's be real: reading comic books is absolutely not a mark of quality towards writing comic books.
>>
>>95035868
Did anyone actually read the successor thing to Bloodlines?
>>
>>95031480
This makes me feels super uncomfortable but it was all intended as a compliment.
>makes good comics
>raises up and spotlights others who make good comics
>has a hot gf who makes good comics

Bloodbath, Blood Fire, Razorsharp and the Psyba-Rats, Hitman, Anima, Loose Cannon, Argus and Gunfire or the New 52 mini
>>
>>95036261
I mean the one that was recent. Honestly I only ever read Hitman but I just like to imagine all of those from the titles. They all sound really anime.
>>
>>95036282
Anima was kinda anime now that I think about it
but still a top tier waifu
and Loose Cannon was written by Loeb and was pretty badass
New 52 mini was like at the end of the line and super random but pretty guuuud
probably never ever storytimed, along with most of the previously mentioned series
I like 90s comics a lot
>>
>>95029663
Yes I remember people giving Ewing's Ultimates shit cuz the art was too out there.

We genuinely deserve the shitty writing we have today.
>>
>>95036416
tbf the coloring hurt muhh eyes for the first few issues
>>
>>95036367
I feel like the flaws with 90s comics have become meme'd into "90s comics are universally bad and there is nothing good there"

But IDK like Razorsharp and the Psyba-Rats makes me think of Gunsmith Cats and Loose Cannon, Argus (I know it'll be the spy thing but) and Gunfire all sound like they could be anime too. Razorsharp and the Psyba-Rats SOUNDS really great in a really 90s way but I know it's probably not.

Travel Foreman was knocking it out the park by like issue #3, maximum? Even aside from all the cosmic stuff the punch in the final issue was so fucking good. The diner scene in the first issue put a lot of people of.

Blame Starlin for shitting out space cosmic after his infinity gauntlet trilogy.

His later stuff sucked hard and tried so hard to be philosophical.

Didn't help that Jurgens wrote an ooc Thanos in his thor run.

Actually everything bad to do with marvel cosmic moving away from metaphysical shit was trying to shill Thanks hard.

Remember fucking Thanos helping Galactus with the hunger entity or something? Or whatever the infinity anchor shit Starlin tried to do? Or the dumb Thanos clones. Or hell Engleharts celestial Madonna follow up?

Seriously what the fuck is the purpose of the celestial Messiah? Why is that so vague. Why the fuck was the celestial Madonna such a big deal where two versions of Kang's arrived to fight for her?

Marvel cosmic was bad for a long time before DnA came to save it.

Oh and fuck Englehart. He is a fucking hack. Shilling his OC asian waifu so hard that she appeared in 3 different publishers (see his JLA run)

Steve Englehart and Mantis deserve to be together. You just don't understand.

Paralel or series?

Do you mean a series of them like train cars, or stacked like firewood? Or perhaps orbiting him like electrons surrounding a nucleus

This is important.

Sandy caused a ton of damage, but there wasn't much flooding, and floodwaters receded quickly. People weren't stranded the way they are in Houston and were in New Orleans after Katrina.

Unrelated but, I miss shitposting on Desuarchive's ghost.

Hey so after this we should totally read Hard Time because it's sort of concurrent and clearly a spritual successor to Omega from Gerber/Skrenes.

Age is no problem. They'll bitch about Frank Miller's shit from 30 years ago, but SJWs are fucking casuals, and have never read this.
