I couldn't tell you how much was changed by editorial, but the way the story was set up, it did sorta seem like it was intentionally constructed so that it would be easy to backtrack on almost anything. Using things like the cube to immediately go back on some bombshell isn't really new, but the way it was used here — I don't know.

It's entirely possible the entire second cap storyline was created after the event was already going. It's possible retconning Hydra Cap being worthy was a decision made long after that issue came out. It's possible Miles' decision to not kill him was turned into another cube moment. All of it could have easily been created after the fact, and it's really impossible to separate what was his plan and what wasn't. I wouldn't put it past him to intentionally sabotage 616 Cap and kill him off just so he could push his shitty Sam Wilson shitck, but again, it's impossible to know.

All I know is it was boring most of the time.
