Is it even flanderization anymore? Because I I'm getting the vibe the last 3 years that every character has been severely dumbed down so hard that their main character trait has both been simplified and amplified and now is their personality as a whole.

Only difference seems to be Polo that is a tryhard brodude who's secretly craving dick and as such is both more complex than the others yet also much more forced and jarring change.

Maybe there should have been an actual chapter covering this instead of that surface-level bullshit from the Friendship flower chapter and the picnic chapter. Granted, we did get a bit of actual detail during that scene where Abbey flipped out at Burgertron, but that was still just a reveal via conversation.

You know what I would have liked to see? ACTUAL events showcasing how their relationship was falling apart. How about SHOWING us how Daisy progressively lost interest in Abbey's therapy--you know, the only serviceable in-universe explanation for why he's regressed into such a bitter rage machine over the past few years? Daisy is kind of legitimately retarded, dating a guy with family issues where his dad killed his mom and has anger issues. Then just allows Polo who she secretly wants his D to constantly bash him and is SURPRISED there is conflict and fighting.

Yes, we get it. Abbey cares for Daisy far more then Daisy cares for him, he will never be able to live up to Polo cuz "reasons". So he tries to desperately cling to protecting her and keeping her from getting her feelings hurt. After reading between the lines on her comments and Tumblr posts as the past 4 years unfolded, it's clear that she can no longer stomach the stress of updating the comic at her earlier standards. Even while she was clearly improving, she would always shit on herself. No progress was ever worth it, because she would get anxious over everything else that wasn't perfect. She eventually ended up staying a spell under psychiatric observation from stressing out too much.

Suitcase championed the new, low-effort, all-digital format, because hey, at least Taeshi could feel accomplished after pumping out so many more pages. Fooling herself out of anxiety by looking at the size of the buffer is the only way she can continue. That's a meme. After reading the comic for so long, I've seen that he did a lot for the comic. He built the website basically from scratch. He handles all the accounting and taxes so they don't have to hire a CPA. He negotiates all the shit with printers and manufacturers for everything on the store. He managed the comments and blogs and curates stuff to highlight from social media. He worked with Taeshi to edit and develop the story. Hell, he even wrote entire chapters.

What happened is that over the past few years, Suit seems to have directed his attention more towards merchandise than working with Taeshi on the actual comic. There's no way he hasn't noticed the downturn in quality, outside of the simplified art style. There was a thread where he came in here and we got him to admit (albeit in vague, generalized, lawyer-like fashion) that he didn't agree with where Taeshi's taken the comic. I think he's reluctant to criticize Taeshi's work ever since her hospitalization out of fear that it'll set her off again. Maybe he also spends more of his time managing her mood or something instead of on the comic itself.

No, I feel like this Anon has a solid point going on. If you look at Taeshi's journal comic, it can be seen that Suitcase often overreacts to any sign of Taeshi feeling down in the dumps. He probably just wants to keep her happy, and considering she's probably burnt out from BCB at this point, it makes sense that he'd just kinda let her do her own thing in regards to how it's drawn and written.

I'm gonna drop the angst for a minute and actually pay Taeshi a compliment here. For a comic that I would've never read based on the premise alone (Like seriously, shallow furry high school drama) and I only happened to read out of sheer curiosity because of threads here, it delivered an emotional impact I've yet to find another moment in webcomics with the same build-up and execution as this, at least in my opinion.

A close second would be the later half of "At Loose Ends" which impressed me considering it the chapter came immediately after "December" so it had some big shoes to fill. The fact it made me give a shit about Abbey for one chapter says enough (too bad the characters stayed in limbo afterwards and wasted the potential).
I also think the art peaked at the chapter. The more vibrant eyes darker coloring just looked cooler, imo. Not that I didn't like the water-color style that came after, but I found it more washed-out in comparison. Plus, it just got worse from there as everything slowly morphed into the bobblehead shit we have now.

I more or less agree, because even though I enjoyed the watercolor saga before everything and everyone had to be OMG KYUUT! proportioned, it still required more effort to get right and also made it harder to fix small mistakes digitally.

Everything watercolor post ABSOLUTELY ADORBZ! both has dull and flat colors, while the sharpness is also greatly reduced and the obvious botched proportions.

Watercoloring is just that one thing you really gotta do right or don't do at all.

What makes December stand out is the expectations that are built up and then suddenly reversed. It follows the same beats as The Simpson' "Bart Gets an F" episode

I watch that episode multiple times as a kid and thought it was sad, but it didn't really effect me, but rewatching it recently as an adult, it gets too fucking real knowing that sometimes your best isn't enough. You can't undo years of doing things wrong with one day of doing things right.
The difference is at least the Simpsons throws Bart a bone in the end and he gets a pity pass so you get your feel-good ending. Lucy on the other hand, gets no comfort. She put in her all and not only fails but gets 10 pages of getting her figurative shit kicked in. Her self-esteem is so fucked that after all that she STILL texts Sandy to apologize for what she put Mike through, and finishes their homework assignment on her own to boot.

Abbey may not be the best or even a good character, but since the flanderizenings Paulo has taken the biggest hit as a character. He's now completely unlikeable. We will never see the day dream Paulo ever again. He's fucked. Abbey is at least trying to protect someone, Paulo only wants to be a douche and pretend it's with good intentions. He's only a hollow husk of what he was. Hence why veronica can turn him gay in an instant because his character no longer exists he only serves as a plot device to induce drama and we see no consistency or growth making him unsatisfying to invest in as a reader. But this can easily apply to literally everyone in the comic. Polo has just taken the biggest impact imo

Untrue. He didn't seem that into her when comforting her after Mike rejected her (it took David's prodding for him to get insecure about not "getting anywhere" with her) and was very uncomfortable with his increasing attraction to her later because he wanted to be loyal to Jasmine.

Despite his relationship with Rachel being explicitly purely physical by her own request, when she fell in love with him anyway he was so upset about being unfair to her (because he only loved Lucy) he seemed on the verge of tears.

But he's selfish.

Granted, later he forgot that she was in love with him at all but that was due to his brain tumor, so it's kind of hard to conceive of a consistent characterization to respond to.

How long until until the plot progresses again so an attempt can be made to fix that trip to the carnival?
