Well in the old days once we had posted up to the bump limit, we had to post threads back out of existence by taking posts away. Taking away your own posts was frowned upon, but you could take as many of other people's posts as you liked, as long as they didn't contain the word "faggot" because those posts belonged to moot. Anyway, we would collect all the posts we'd taken from the thread together and that's how screencaps were invented.
>>
>>94972608
Became a mod and went anonymous. Has a tumblr he just uses for reblogs.

It's really funny to say we "became" /co/mblr because virtually every old namefag has a tumblr. Judge Anon and Gunwild and Coelasquid and psuedonym and Super Nintendo Chalmers and kosh and all those niggas.

It was less...political.

There was also a larger number of recognizable tripfags/namefags. Most vanished, a few are still posting today.

>>94972529
marvel comics were actually good!
>>
Did everyone go apeshit when Mordecai and Rigby said "pissed" on TV?
>>
>>94972712
No they weren't. They'd have three good books at most at any given time.
>>
>>94972720
Yes.
>>
Avatar. Avatar as far as the eye could see. It enveloped us like a blanket, darkening the sun. You'd wake up every morning to a mouthful of crossover fanfiction threads. Footfags were always hiding in the cupboards.

>>94972678
Didn't all those people except Judge Anon completely abandon the site years ago? The only oldfag I ever see is Kazilklu, and I'm almost convinced it's not even the "real" guy posting under the name.
>>
>>94972727
3 more good books then they have now

Ah yes, remember the finale? I think the entire board was taken up by Avatar threads at multiple points throughout the day. Same thing happened on the day Korra first premiered (god, remember when we were excited about Legend of Korra?).
>>
>>94973301

I think we were all pretty on board with Korra right up until the end of the first season. The pre-Korra hype was amazing. We thought Bryke had returned to atone for the horrible shamalamadingdong movie. If we only knew.

Good times.

>>94972529

There were no general threads, conversations within threads would go in unexpected ways and we all loved that. That was a feature of the whole site. There was no "off topic" rule.

Loli threads were a perpetual thing and you'd only get banned for porn. We discussed heinous perversions freely and I'm willing to bet many came here for that. It was the same thing people do in /trash/ today. We all laughed at moralfags.

This was a much smaller board because nobody gave a fuck about cartoons OR #34. Shocking, isn't it? Posting toon porn on say /b/ would earn you scorn, ridicule and you'd get banned for posting shit. The number of quality artists was miniscule and this was a niche interest. It was a comfy board filled with strange people.

/co/ was love theoretically, but in practice it was still a chill board compared to others.

We had a huge number of tripfags. The mods had a sense of humor. Moderation was subtle and you really didn't feel it, most of the times you could just let go and not worry.

I still believe the fappening brought more people than GG, which is blown WAY out of proportion. But whatever. It doesn't really matter now since the real issue right now is the /pol/posters from the election.

Well actually, the real issue is that the janitors and mods have been steadily getting worse and worse. Or the posting has gotten worse and janitors have been staying the same instead of adapting. Though if you look at /a/, it's clearly the former.
>>
The mods were weebs that gave a fuck about /co/ instead of weebs that didn't give a fuck about /co/

We couldn't shitpost memes like we used to, but we had our ways. One trick was to spam copypastas that don't go anywhere. Like the time I derailed a thread on /tv/. I needed a new image that had shitposting written all over it. So I decided to go to Reddit, which is what they called /tv/ in those days. So I tied a GB2REDDIT meme to it, which was the style at the time. Now, to derail a thread on /tv/ cost a ban, and in those days, bans had "Reddit boogeyman" as the reason on 'em. "Take your Reddit boogeyman elsewhere," the mods'd say. Now, where were we? Oh yeah. The important thing was that I had GB2REDDIT on my post, which was the style at the time. They didn't have any Sneedposts because of the Chuckhead war. The only thing you could get was those big guy ones.

In what people say it did to the election, probably. With 4chan traffic? You have no idea. The silent majority of 4chan are lurkers on /v/ who want vidya lingo but can't possibly contribute compared to the neets. The only thing that compares (large draw of silent users) is the Game of Thrones generals on /tv/. Then its just the weirdos and faggots.
>>
>>94974033
Again, I'm willing to bet money that the fappening drew in way more of that crowd. This is one of the only sites on the entire internet where you wouldn't get a permaban for merely mentioning it. Think about it logically. What do you think would be more popular - thousands of leaked celebrity nudes, or a discussion about ethics in game journalism? They both happened close enough together that it's difficult to separate them in graphs.
>>
Happy times...
>>
>>94973610
Why?
>>
>>94974198
The idea of a namefag is incompatible with the site's very existence. The whole site was founded on the idea of anonymity and these people think they're too good for that, so they come to pretty much the one site that doesn't allow accounts and they make an account. It shows they have a fundamental misunderstanding about what 4chan is, and it shows that they will very likely be incompatible with the site's culture. Avatarfagging is a bannable offense, for example.

Now, there are reasons for trips. Like in a buy/sell/trade thread, or one of those "I'm a ___ employee" threads, or even a drawthread, but if you feel the need to use a name or trip all the time, you do not belong on 4chan. It's that simple.

Its just kind of sad desu. Like you look at Boco for instance and just wonder if he has so little identity IRL or on social media that he NEEDS to create an imaginary identity here.
I'm not really offended by namefags, but I do think they're missing the point of the site and kind of outing themselves as saddos.

>>
/co/ was the fourth largest board on the site by a pretty wide margin, but we had very little overlap with the anons from /a/, /v/, or /b/. /co/ kind of evolved into its own culture. We were a lot more welcoming of newfags because comics were a less accessible medium.

Oh god, did that come back to bite us. Also, /co/ seemed completely oblivious that Vorked Larfreeze was Wyatt Creed under a new name.
>>
/co/ used to be full of optimism until LOK came and destroyed most of it, and then SJ season 5 finished the job.

Come to think of it, now that the Western animation industry is essentially dead there is no point to the cartoons side of the board anymore, it should be renamed to just comics.

There used to be these things called "share threads" where Anon would collect links for entire runs of comics, sometimes entire series, and post them and mirrors. People would be exposed to comics long lost before entire sections of bookstores were devoted to comic trades (they typically had a shelf or two shared with the much larger manga section.)

Even better, 4chan had a built-in link tracker which would archive these links and so even if you missed a sharethread live, you could go to /rs/ and search "Ultimate Spider-Man" and get a series of links that would contain all of Ultimate Spider-Man. No torrent bullshit, no bullshit websites.

It was beautiful.

Oh, it was a riot son let me tell you.
For instance, there was this one adorable little honey who used to visit around these parts. Cute as a button she was. Great set of tits too. She didn't mind flashing a bit of skin for us old timers back in those days. 'Course the young 'uns who hadn't seen better thought she was just about the best looking gal they'd ever laid eyes on. Used to talk about how perfect she was.
Matter of fact, think that was how she got the name Perfection Girl.

Back in the long long ago of 2006 people just talked about comics and cartoons and other things that while off topic everyone liked and looked the other way on like Godzilla and Doctor Who we would also share pornography with each other and call everyone a faggot as term of endearment, but that all ended with a shit webcomic called homosuck that brought with it the normalfags and their ridiculous unpleasable notions of what they considered civility and continually dragged down the quality of not only 4chan but the entire world until we come to today where we all live in the socialist hellhole of the google caliphate, now scamper along my young transfox demigurl bloodkin you dont want to be late for your midmorning mandatory white privilege sodomy!

>I still believe the fappening brought more people than GG
It did. By several orders of magnitude. There are old 4chan moderation chat logs from that period, which have been made publicly available, in which moot expresses extreme concern about the volume of people and organizations being directed at the site from the fappening, and then goes on to make a small, off-the-cuff remark about GG, as if it were just another thing for the mods to deal with; something so insignificant as to warrant next-to-no attention *by comparison*.

Instead of Dumbing of Age and Questionable Content threads, we had threads making fun of Least I Could Do, CAD, and Dobson (it's funny how long Dobson has always been annoying and hated). We even talked about how unfunny and Sexist they were. Then Slutfire happened. And we kept having threads about Shortpacked, comicsalliance, cracked, and Sinfest (Sinfest went off the goddamn rails). It's gotten better nowadays but still not perfect.

In general, you could get away with posting most forms of lewd art and porn, so long as it was spoilered.

Nowadays, you write a racey greentext with an out of context screencap from the show, you're likely to get banned.
>>
>>94972678
because virtually every old namefag has a tumblr.

I don't have one
>>
We had an adventure time drawthread, I had some requests done in it
>>
It was fun because you couldn't have Generals since threads auto-died after being alive too long. So you didn't have threads that lasted several weeks being kept alive by one or two circlejerk fags.

I mean, theoretically you could just constantly remake the general thread more often, but that never seemed to happen. The whole place was more spontaneous as a whole, and there was a lot more random conversation, despite the over abundance of name/tripfags for some reason. Every thread kind of felt like the same part of a larger whole, instead of having these weird isolated show general threads on /co/ that seem to have the same people in it that don't mingle with the rest of the board. Though that could have been because the whole community was smaller.

Actually yeah, it was better, but that's not because things were better in the past, the community was just smaller and smaller communities are almost always better than larger ones.
>>
>>94972678
Having a tumblr to dump your art =/= Having "tumblr views"

This board has actually become worse than tumblr in some ways. All the frothing at the mouth over political shit, the constantly crying wolf about pedophiles in fanbases like TLH or SvTFOE, more people using a passive-aggressive posting style.... at least with tumblr some of those faggots still realize that they have an identity and going too far will get them fucked over.
>>
>>94980104
Adventure Time and especially things like generals and private drawthreads that it brought were the beginning of the end. It made people become more insular, and in turn breeded resentment.
