What comic has aged the absolute worst?
>>
>>94972455
America Chavez.
>>
Preacher is nearly unreadable amounts of edgy late 90s post Beavis and Butthead/South Park levels of cringe. It dedicates a whole issue to unironic Bill Hicks worship lmao
>>
>>94972455
>>94972623

He said "aged the worst", not "were awful since day one". Unless you mean that comic was dated the minute it was published.

wow cant believe ive never heard of digital justice before

sounds hilarious
>>
>>94972675
America is actually quite the comic as it gets worse every issue which should be inhumanly possible since every issue since 1 has hit rock bottom but it just goes lower.

>3D comics

Man what the hell were they thinking?!
>>
>>94972675
That's a tricky question to answer. Plenty of stuff is just automatically bad out of the gate. War Machine 2.0 and other attempts at CGI comics in the early 2000s come to mind, CGI being what it was at the time. But even those get worse with time, because current CGI continues to improve. Stuff like America Chavez is also complete garbage from a writing and technical standpoint, but I get the feeling that it, and comics in a similar vein, will be viewed the same way we see stuff like After-School Specials or that one Sonic short cartoon about how to handle Uncle Bad Touch. Weird, quaint, and definitely inappropriately direct.

To put it another way, a lot of Superman comics from the Silver Age have aged poorly because they were designed with a ridiculous shock premise in mind, or because they were infantile in their over-use of expository language, simplified plot-lines, and extremely one note characters. Those are just bad qualities that any story can have, but those comics are definitely products of their time period. I wonder if, in another 50 years time, we will come to view Bendis style dialogue, heavy narrative decompression, and the tackling of social issues with all the grace of a herd of bulls in the world's largest china shop.

I'm kinda sorry to say it but Witchblade.
If you guys weren't around this was bigger than Spawn for about 8 months and then just imploded completely.
>>
>>94972455
pretty much anything from the early 90s
>>
>>94972725
Err, that is to say, I wonder if we'll come to view all that in a similar vein.
>>
There's a Digital Justice HC in the discount bin at my LCS.
>>
>>94972673

Yet it's still topical.
>>
>>94972733
They didn't age badly, because there wasn't anything to age. They were over the top edgy and humorously awful and still are. They aged perfectly.
>>

This book was revolutionary at launch, I can't stress this enough, but as it is know, people only read it out of respect, nothing in there is relevant anymore.

yeah i know. that's the point of the thread. this even had its own tnt tv show though. there was about half a year where anything comic books was all Witchblade
>>
>>94972455
To be fair to the an otherwise terrible book, the CGI effects were VERY new at the time. Even the Swirl effect would not become common place in Photoshop until 2 years later in 1992.

Remember, just 17 years earlier the first CGI was used in the movie West World. And 8 years earlier Tron was a graphical feast for the eyes.

Got to at least give it to them for doing an entire book on computer in a time when digital art was in its infancy.
>>

This. His layouts aren't as interesting anymore and his action scenes always looked awkward with the characters contorting their bodies awkwardly and their blows having no impact because they'd be falling backward to deliver a backhanded chop while hitting some guy with their toes and shit like that.
>>
>>94973180
wtf why? that is insane. i used her as the example of not aging well/ie not working in 2017.
i didn't actually realize how popular she was till I spent the last hour reading up.

should have gone with G-13 or Fathom.

Like... can they go lower than that?
>>

they could take the writer of the MAC solo and have her replace Slott on ASM

It breaks my heart but I do have to admit that a lot of 90's Vertigo stuff does come off as pointless edginess for the sake of edginess.

Although to say they aged the "worst" when there are literally Golden Age cape comics whose entire point was to dehumanize Japanese people to the point that the readers wouldn't feel bad about he government was putting them in internment camps would obviously be silly.

>>94974243
and the anime was honestly not that bad. a story about a single mother working as a superhero to provide for her daughter is pretty damn rare, and the romantic subplot with her boss developed naturally as a growing affection between two adults with their own responsibilities to consider without relying on the usual romantic tropes most anime fallback on. I'd definetly rate it higher than the X-Men anime and Iron Man anime

Yeah, it was such a phenomena that Steve Gerber parodied it it an issue of his Howard the Duck MAX series.

He also parodied all the popular Vertigo titles at the time like Sandman, Transmet, Preacher, ec cetra.

Sounds like you're the insecure faggot if you can't admit a Garth Ennis property is full of 90s edge and fedora-tipping.

Fair enough if you think it's the greatest written work ever to have those tropes, but they're still there, and you'd be hard-pressed to deny it.
>>
>>94972726
Did whatsisface, the deviantart guy who makes Suicide Squad covers, Harley/Ivy lesbian comics, and that lesbian bondage comic ever get around to his Witchblade fancomic where the younger host is being haunted by previous hosts, like Boudicca and shit?

That was the only time I was remotely interested in that franchise, it's entirely built on cheesecake.

Early 3D-graphics *anything* is simply appalling.

I remember people jizzing all over themselves for Tekken 1 in the arcades. The game characters poly count was something like 50 for the entire model, with shitty textures. I found it too hideous to be playable but it had all sorts of apologists explaining away how it'll get better in the future. Oh, it did, and i knew that then like I know it now, I simply wasn't willing to accept that early Alpha tiptoeing into 3D design until it reached some minimum level of quality. A brand-new model of shit, some people see the "brand-new" part, I see the "shit" part.
>>
>>94975625
What was worse is they had the technology to make beautifully animated 2d graphic games for the Ps1 and Saturn, but everyone wanted blocky, floaty 3d characters that moved like driving a remote control car. I seriously had trouble staying into gaming in the late 90s.

I think MGS, FF8, and Brave Fencer Musashi were the only 3d graphic games I was into back then.

When Leafyishere got popular, I guess. And everything had to be layered in irony. Though that's more of an issue with some of the site's userbase.

Stan Lee's stories were really, REALLY, rough. There's a point in the mid 60's where he learns to stand aside and let the artists do their thing, and that's when the comics get pretty fun. But before, a lot of it's bogged down in his overexplanation and exposition, messing up the flow of action among other things. It was overexpostion, even for it's time from what I read of other SA material.
