It is fairly common with Pumpernickel. This bread takes a day in the stove to be baked, so most factories can only really bake it during Sundays or Holidays. Pumpernickel generally lasts for several months, cans are just there to extend it to several years. Pumpernickel lasting this long is the reason why it is affordable in the first place. Bread you can't sell in a day is an instant loss, Pumpernickel you can't sell in a day will just be sold tomorrow.
