Comfy Spider-Man storytime
i was reading these issues the other day and something about it feels so comfy compared to today's ASM
loving this 90's art
>>94938952
>tony actually demonstrating an understanding of his world rather than just broadly proclaiming he knows everything
>>94939118
it was a different time
>>94939027
Oh hey. It's my favorite Scorpion costume.
seriously no web shooters? what did this person think they were doing
>>94939118
>>94938805
I hated this run back when it was being published. And yet in hindsight this issue shows a competency that I don't think I've seen in Spider-Man comics (and even some other Marvel comics) in a long time now.

>>94939233
from what I understand they're just trying to do "new/different" things. whether those things are good plots is another story
>>94939329
Pete's face would make a good reaction image
>>94939410
>happy ending for Peter Parker
this cant last long
I have high hopes for the new volume of specatcular spider man street level pete is where its at
>>94939118
Scott Hanna is actually keeping Byrne's linework from being a sloppy mess. Good on him, this is Byrne's best stuff I've seen since, maybe She-Hulk/Namor?
>>94938707
spideyman spideyman does whatever a spideyman!
>>94938968
>>94938989
Justice was a comfy character
>>94939121
>>94939148
>>94939259
>>94939296
>They/Different Crowd
>HIM
>Bioscan
And I dont think it was ever clarified what the hell scorpions deal was, who he worked for, or why they were after Peter.
I think that was my problem with Mackie's tenure. Mystery after mystery that never got resolved.
>>94939561
whatever happened to Jill Stacy anyway?
also i think you're gonna run into a problem considering half of these storylines cross over into the Peter Parker comics
>>94939720
Dropped off the face of the Earth after her romantic subplot with Peter was canned when MJ came back.
>>94939824
I forgot she had that suit to hide the female body
also so glad we get to keep in all the baggage of the GATHERING OF THE FIVE nonsense
>>94940004
>oh god its the start of the first arc to separate Peter from MJ
>>94940058
>why are you telling me everything I already know?
>>94939983
>Maddie
Did they say her name in another book?
>>94940089
I dont remember
maybe Peter knew which five characters partook in the Gathering of the Five?
spiderman suck
>>94940102
god this guy is an irrational fuck head of the highest degree
Peter: hi nice to meet you I'm peter parker
Javier: FUCK YOUUUUU
>>94940089
>>94940110
my question is how did Pete not know she was a girl when she speaks when fighting scorpion in front of him
>>94939941
>I forgot she had that suit to hide the female body
I wonder if Bendis got the idea for Echo-as-Ronin from here.
>>94940154
How did Scorpion not know?
>>94939264
It's insane because back when this was getting published it started making me look more fondly at the Clone Saga. And now here we are.
I dread the future.
>>94940213
What the hell is up with Iceman's speech balloons?
>>94940154
there's another skipped issue which had her in it as spiderman
nobody noticed there either
*shrug*
>>94940252
>*shrug*
kys
>>94940239
I think they were always like that during the 90s
>>94940234
this guy must love playing Reaper
>>94940273

B & R was like a few months ago
>>94940239

>>94940318
*years, not months
>>94940314COOL PARTY
>>94940375
Oh I guess spidey doesnt know about that gathering
>>94940239
It was back when they were trying to do distinguishing speech bubbles and fonts for characters.
>>94940397
I forget
how manyconcurrently running spiderman books are there these days?
The 90s had like 4 of them at some point
>>94940432
Aww yeah
90s Romita Jr.
>>94939486
I miss armpit webs
>>94940435
3
Amazing
Renew Your Vows
Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-Man
>>94940414
>Mackie's Spider-Man
Oh no.
The man only ever had half a tank full of gas and he used it all up on the first half of his Ghost Rider run.
>>94940494
..
does he
does he always have bandages near him?
>>94940513
>one of those terrorist wackos
oh the times
they come and go
>>94939937
>gathering of five
I really should read that someday.
>>94940596
new york tunnels must be huge
>>94940610
its not that great
its mostly known as the story that brought Aunt May back to life
>>94940653
>Death
>Power
>Knowledge
>Immortality
>Madness
I dont think I'd want all five of those at once
>>94940795
>well that was convenient
>>94940840
had time to web up those snow clothes though
>>94940970
>>94940992
>Trapster
Should have kept his original name
>>94941095
>senator ward
ugh and then there's this asshole of a plotline
>>94941021
paste pot pete is great for quips
Is it bad that this was the storyline that got me to start reading spidermen?
(and Xmen, who were having Alan Davis at the head around this time)
>>94941200
*checks*
The frightful four was three goobers and
Blastaar
how the fuck
>>94941254
why cant crooks just stay redeeemed, writers?
>>94941295
status quo must be upheld (unfortunately)
>>94941318
Byrne is such a fucking asshole.
>>94941538
and that was the last we ever saw of the wizard in this run I think
woo
>>94939720
Died on the way to her home planet.
She could've had a chance to be an interesting character, but she was a nuisance plot device.
That she hit on Peter while he was on denial from MJ's "death"/trying to find his wife didn't do her any favors.
>>94941598
Pity
she was cute
must be the stacy blood
>>94941635
oh right there was this thing which I never got to read because my country never imported it
>>94941659
what country
Art is a bid odd in this issue.
Bumpercarts!
throwback to when thor had a secret identity
>>94942776
Aunt May really should have put 2 and 2 together with Peter running away from her pretty much every day of his life
Why is it that of all the solid, punch clock, workhorse writers Jurgens gets the most heat? The industry's full of "good-but-not-great" writers, but Jurgens is the guy who always takes it on the chin. Is it The Death of Superman?
>>94942929
>Is it The Death of Superman?
yes
hope you guys enjoyed it
>>94938707
> Mackie/Bryne Spider-Man
This isn't comfy. THIS IS PAIN!
>>94943579
Thanks, OP. I ought to read the clone saga aftermath someday.
>>94941375
Bryne hated Sandman as a hero because he was on the Most Wanted list once in the MU so Bryne thought that meant he had to be EVIL again.
>>94940862
And they were never seen again.
>>94941015
>"The probes alone give me nightmares for weeks!"
>"Annual physical exam"
>"It seems to keep him humble"
Is this going where I think it is?
If so, what is wrong with Byrne?
>>94941384
In the late 1980s, Byrne broke the Vision and the Scarlet Witch in just a few issues, and almost every subsequent Avengers writer just accepted it. Anyone who seemed to want to fix them never stuck around to finish the job.
In the late 1990s, Byrne broke the Sandman, and every Spider-Man writer to follow him just accepted that he's a villain and never even tried to undo it.
We're lucky that Byrne ragequit Marvel around 2001 when they cancelled X-Men Hidden Years, or he'd have probably ruined someone else by now, and once again, no-one would dare fix it.
