They don't even have webbed feet, or tail feathers, or any other classic Disney approximation of duck anatomy. They're literally all just humans with duck bills, which somehow makes it tremendously more off-putting.

No, that's horrifying because the feathers at the edge of the beak there get mistaken for skin.
Skin in that pattern and color looks like a half-healed wound.
Honestly if that was fixed and the soft corners of the beak were still recognizably expressive, that would be cute.

Not really. Carl Barks is famous for his Disney duck comics. He created characters like Scrooge McDuck, Magica De Spell, Beagle Boys, and so on. The smut he drew is much less important than the clean family comics he made. And I don't think he ever drew smutty comics. The most daring and rebellious thing he ever did in a comic was probably drawing a small handful of background characters that had human faces, rather than the dog-faces that Disney characters are supposed to have.
