This movie stinks.
Why make a prequel that shits over all the stuff that was already established before?
What exactly determines if a monster is "scary" enough to be a scarer? Plenty of monsters looked like fuzzy beachballs or oversized stuffed animals, so why did only Mike get singled out as not scary? The losers in OK weren't scary either.
Speaking of, how could Hardscrabble arbitrarily decide who was worthy enough to be in the scare program or not? Sulley was clearly scary enough on his own and Mike clearly knew the theories of scaring to be a good scarer. That's like telling a med student "yeah I don't think you have what it takes to be a doctor" even though their grades are perfect. I know she was butthurt about them breaking her scare canister but why even leave something like that out in the open unprotected anyway?
What's the difference between making a kid cry and making a kid scream? Hardscrabble said that crying would alert the parents to come into the room and expose the monster, but wouldn't a scream do the exact same thing? I would think a scream would have the parents come running faster if anything.
Further more both Sulley and Mike were able to get enough scare energy at the end to fill hundreds of canisters and overload the door. shouldn't that have been enough to impress Hardscrabble and let them back in?
This whole movie was a mess.
I like this movie.

There are two kinds of people in this world.

Oh boy, it's another OP Has Shitty Taste thread.
>What exactly determines if a monster is "scary" enough to be a scarer?
Their performance as a scarer?
>What's the difference between making a kid cry and making a kid scream?
The quality and amount of fear produced?

Dunno man, you can know all the finer points of acting but be a shitty actor because of your naturally shitty voice and face.
The "work hard and persevere to earn what you wanted" ending is way better than "do something special and everything will be handed to you on silver plate".
And yeah the classification system was kinda retarded, assuming there's a system, but you need an antagonist, and here that's Hardscrabble being retarded and trying to to choose Mike's fate for him.

>Their performance as a scarer?
In which case Mike had everything he needed to be a good scarer. He was on top of his game and it was his wit and planning that allowed Sulley to pull off the big scare at the end and escape. But everyone just seemed to decide that Mike wasn't "scary" enough based on what? His looks? The other monsters in OK weren't exactly pulling in great scores in the final round of the scare games even after his coaching yet they were good enough to get a pass?
>The quality and amount of fear produced?
Hardscrabble told Sulley that making the kid cry instead of scream would just make the parents come into the room and expose the monster which makes zero sense. In both cases the parents are going to come into the room either way and it's not like the monsters is supposed to just stand there and wait for them. They come in, do their thing, and then get out. So her criticism made absolutely no sense and was just an excuse to kick him out.
