The cosmic level villains who are actually behind everything would have been given proper development and motivations and wouldn't have come completely the fuck out of nowhere. The heroes might have been less compelling in the process, though. Why is it that American comic book writers tend to be so good at making villains, but tend to be a lot more spotty when it comes to heroes?
