There's more demand for G1-style stuff BECAUSE the Beast Wars toys were superior, OP.

For over twenty years, if you wanted a new Bumblebee or Soundwave or whoever, your options were limited to A) pay out the ass for a G1 brick on eBay, B) pay out the ass for a G1 brick reissue, C) buy a shitty fucking Alternator and pretend you enjoy it, or D) hope that maybe a preexisting Beast/Armada toy would get recolored as that character, maybe as a convention exclusive you'd have to shell out hundreds to get.

Hasbro does go back to the 1984 well a bit too often, but they're also still updating characters who haven't had affordable/quality toys since 1988.

Fuck, compared to all that shit, all you have to do to get quality Beast Wars figures is go to eBay or wherever and fucking BUY BEAST WARS TOYS. The Transmetals are still some of the most solid molds ever.

I think they will revisit beast wars someday, first we are getting new updated headmasters, pretenders and power masters. So my guess is once they are done with updating the older g1 characters they will revisit the beasties. Occasionally we get a random beast character here and there so thats nice.

Between putting Blackarachnia in everything, the references in Animated, Beast Wars Uprising, the recent Primal and Cheetor MPs and Primal winning the POTP vote, I very much doubt Hasbro's forgotten Beast Wars.

The thing is Beast Wars was a self-contained story, a private war that has little room for new stories unlike G1.
>>
>>94887790
I heard Primal won POTP. I'm hoping this serves as a wake-up call to Hasbro, although now I'm worried it means they'll just cram them into the Bay movies.

I've seen that. Way to completely miss the point of them turning into animals in the first place, Bay.
>>
>>94887272
>Killed after getting a shitty sequel
Beast Machines isn't a shitty sequel. Fox Kids fucked up by showing a sequential series like it was a syndicated series (which Beast Wars basically was). So airing the first couple of episodes repeatedly only on Saturdays made it impossible to get into it. Having aggressively ugly designs for the Maximals was also a turn off.

Beast Machines has some shit (but no tf era is spotless), but it's worth marathoning through. It's better than the live action movies, Prime, or RID and the Unicron Trilogy.
>>
>>94888008
Did Beast Machines have a whole plotline of Silverbolt having amnesia and being a prick?
>>
>>94888034
Yes
>>
>>94888034
Half the Vehicons were brainwashed into being pricks, and Silverbolt was one of them.
>>
>>94888053
That's basically the only thing I remember from that show.
>>
>>94888147
They fucked up by not swapping the role of Rhinox and Optimus imo.
>>
>>94887580
I mean, there's the objective fact that the BW toys had ball-socket joints and shit, and the anecdotal evidence that I've been in TF fandom for decades, and all that fans were asking for on the old usenet forums and e-mail groups was "I wish they'd do G1-style toys with Beast-level articulation and design." Car Robots gave fans a tease of that.

Classics finally gave fanboys what they wanted in 2007, and what was intended to just be a placeholder line until the movie line was out has sold well enough, it's still going strong a decade later, even longer than the ACTUAL G1 TOYLINE. Nerds really, really want versions of G1 characters, even the most obscure ones, that aren't fucking plastic bricks that have the delicacy of faberge eggs after so many years.

I loved Beast Wars too, but the show, unlike G1, doesn't have any real room to grow or develop or add characters without ruining it. Literally every attempt at doing like a Beast Wars "expanded universe" have been at best, pale shadows of the actual show, at worst, actively ruining it with fanwank and dumb retcons. The neo-BW toys that Hasbro has put out are, at best, on par with their similarly priced counterparts from back then, or at worst, shit like Universe Cheetor.

When you strive to do "G1 but better" in any form, the bar is set pretty low. But with BW, I just can't see any big "push" not being a disappointment compared to the original.

TL,DR: don't mess with perfection
>>
>>94887756
Some cars aren't boring.

And they turned into plenty of shit besides cars. You got your fighter jets, your space shuttles, your trains, your tractor trailers and yes, your animals and dinosaurs. Sometimes the dinosaurs turned into cassette tapes and shit!

See, that's what I'd like to see, more vehicle/technology/beastie mix-ups, not just nuRiD style 'cons but triple-changers with a beast mode and a proper vehicle mode, like Transmetals pretended to have. I also like that Transmetal/G1 metallic-beast-mode aesthetic way more than "it's a robot but wears real fur/leather parts that have to be awkward shellforming panels"

What if they re-animated all the episodes with contemporary CG but kept the same scripts, sounds, and voices?
>>
>>94888410
No. The technology was limited, but Mainframe worked their asses off to make it as good as it was. A modern attempt at re-doing the animation would lean too heavily on the laurels of the technological advancements and not enough effort would go into the actual human effort of the job. It would have nicer models, but jerky, stilted and unimpressive movement.
>>
>>94887580
didn't the 3d models for the show get used as reference for the toys? or vise versa?
>>
>>94888410
Why bother?
>>
>>94888463
Same reason you'd do a reboot: to reach a new young audience. Except in this case there'd be less risk of new writers fucking it up.
>>
>>94888379
To be fair - to be fair - I'm like 90% sure the tojos at TakaraTomy decide who gets an MP, but them taking a break from their nonstop G1 nostalgia is pretty noteworthy in and of itself.

And the PoTP Optimus Primal was the winner of a fan-poll. It's still telling he was an option at all though, and hopefully they'll see his winning as sanction to make more BW homages in toy form.
>>
>>94887595
>they could keep all the voices and just update the horribly outdated graphics
Ideally this is what would be done. It'd shut the mouths of those who say they can't watch it due to the graphics, and bring in a new audience with it's solid characters and storytelling.
>>
>>94888494
Young audiences can just watch the original.
>WAAAAH BUT THE COMPUTER ANIMATION HASN'T HELD UP

Takara design all the TF CHUG figures that get release in the west. Hasbro just distributes. And If the BW Fandom supported the releases (all except Blackarachnia) there could have been more.

Also with the upcoming MP Dinobot. Hasbro/Takara has released a modernize toy of all season 1 Maximals in the last 3 years.

It's a long story. Basically, Megatron had backdoor'd into Tarantulas' computer/lair. He "sent" Blackarachnia to distract Tarantulas. Meanwhile, he added code to the transwarp cell that Tarantulas had stolen.

This transwarp cell would be used to power the stasis pod, and the code that Megatron had added would seal the pod.

>some figures couldn't even stand and had parts hanging off like crazy.
>only remembered fondly because it had a good cartoon

Beast Wars was one of the worst periods in the toy line. Growing up with the emd of G1 and then getting G2, it felt like someone took a shit in my mouth when I got my first Beast Wars figure. I was around 8-10 years old, and the only good looking ones were Razorbeast, Dinobot, and Optimus Primal. The rest were all fiddly messes that made me miss G1. The line didn't get really good until Transmetals, because it got rid of much of the shell-forming, by making the beast modes look mechanical so they blended in better for transformations.

The series then killed itself with Beast Machines. Ugly figures, ugly bot modes. The people behind the series wanted to ban guns from the series so there was pretty much garbage when it came to weapons.

I like Beast Wars and all, but the people who hype it up are too young to remember how bad it was. There was a reason only a handful of the figures made it in the show... besides the budget that is, and that's because there was a lot of shit.

>BW already told these character's stories

This x100. We don't need a retelling of Beast Wars. BUT I see room for a sequel. In fact, that's what my fanfic is! Late in BW, CHEETOR hears Tarantulas say the Tripredacus Council has different origins than Maximals or Predacons. Who is the Tripredacus Council? They are the Predacon leaders on Cybertron - the greater scope villain. Then in BM, Cheetor becomes the Emperor of Cybertron, but only by default, so we have a clear foundation for a story where a downplayed, trivialized Emperor of Cybertron unifies a new Cybertron by saving it from the Tripredacus Council.

They are very distinct, prime is more sapient and calm (and better warrior), primal take more risks and try don't fuck with the planet and live (prime explode a entire forest in G1 and only Jazz complain about).
>>
>>94908329
>when the primary gimmick is you know, robots in disguise
BW is still robots in disguise, they're in disguise as animals. If anything the tagline is even more relevant because you'd *expect* a robot to turn into something at least vaguely robotic looking. If a rat just turned into a tiny robot you'd be surprised as fuck
>>
>>94908288
So here's my thought. Unmarked spoilers for anyone who cares.
In the show, Rhinox goes missing and Primal becomes the spiritual leader of the surviving Maximals. Rhinox is revealed to be brainwashed Tankor, who now seemingly revels in being evil.
Now imagine those rolls flipped. Maximals wake up on Cybertron and
>holy fuck where's optimus?
Rhinox, as the second in command and the one who *literally pulled primals spark out of the matrix* becomes the spiritual leader of the group, with Cheetor assuming the roll of battle commander like he does in the original show. Eventually it's revealed that megatron brainwashed Primal into being Tankor, delighting in turning the brilliant tactician and his hated enemy into a dumb brute built only to serve him. This also helps avoid the bullshit that is "Rhinox totally wanted to be evil" because we all know a prime never *really* turns evil. So then when he rejects their offer for help it plays as a sign that Megatron has broken him so completely that he's no longer the Primal that they once knew and is essentially dead.
>>
>>94906558
If anything the sequel fucks up a perfectly good ending, so I'd avoid it unless you just really have to have more.
>>
>>94906522
I agree, Prime is my second favorite transformers show behind BW.

Transformers probably would've come back, but it would've been a niche reboot like what He-Man and Gi Joe got, doomed to die witht heir fanbase. BW helped set up Transformers as an evergreen franchise, and all the engineering developed in that period helped build up to what we see now. A lot of Beast Wars engineers at Takara are still with the company, some even working on the MP line.
>>
>>94911188
To continue, it also adds some ambiguity to why Tankor cares so much about taking down Megatron. Is he really just a free agent now looking to usurp his former master, or does some bit of his old spark know that it's a prime's job to defeat megatron?

The giant part is optional.
>>
>>94913466
Here's the thing, though, EVERY figure had reasonable articulation, and much more than common action figures did at the time. G2 may have had 10 to 15 decently articulated figures ina period of 3 years, intermixed with limited articulated bricks. BW came out the gate with everything being decently posable, in a time where 5-7 POA and hinge joints were standard.

>BW came out the gate with everything being decently posable

Except most of the figures were ugly and not fun to play with, as I mentioned before. Articulation isn't the be all end all when judging the line. They usually had lots of fiddly shell parts that hung off them, mutant face gimmicks that didn't look good and usually bad head sculpts in general. The only ones that were semi decent usually had the spring loaded quick change gimmick, and those were often lame hollow messes. There was probably only three good deluxe figures in the first wave: Dinobot, Tarantulas, and Waspinator.

There was literally more bad figures than good until Transmetals came out and those made the figures more mechanical looking to get rid of the shell parts.

Just look at Bonecrusher, he's an ugly mess. I had most of the line early line as a kid, and figures like this were all over the place and never made it into the show for good reason.

It only "saved" the franchise because G2 was so low effort, first two years full of re-issues, no new TV show, just re-runs, and running up against Power Rangers.

Honestly, had Beast Wars not existed, Armada in some form or another may have hit in the 21st century anyway to coincide with the 80's nostalgia boom. That was the real savior of the franchise, despite having one of the crappiest dubs imaginable.

You'll never get any of them dubbed in English. If Hasbro would not front money to get the G1 Japanese exclusive shows a decent English dub, they won't give the red headed stepchildren shows (BW2 and Neo).

And that's not even counting the fact that one of the two Japanese only BW shows (IIRC Neo) has a LOT LOT LOT of racist comedy in it (several of the secondary Maximals on the show are portrayed as lazy, drunk Mexican cliches that you'd NEVER be able to get away with in the US, especially today).

>Armada in some form or another may have hit in the 21st century anyway to coincide with the 80's nostalgia boom.

Just like He-man and Gi Joe's reboots succeeded, right? Armada wasn't created in a vacuum, it owes a lot to stuff learned from the decade TF continued to exist, even if part of it was going against the Beast era. The simplified designs were based in part over backlash over RiD's complex transformations, which themselves were based off Beast wars Neo era engineering. The Beast era also helped reserve a set space for a number of products at retail stores, and established the size classes and rebranding practices that are still used to this day.

Gi Joe and He-man were remade without any real guide as to how to make those series relavent, and both failed because they ddin't have the experience to tell them making a million He-man and skeletors wouldn't work, or how to make the Joe designs more appealing to modern kids. The only franchise that really managed to survive a long period of deadness was TMNT.

>>
>>94914757
No, TF is normie shit now because Bay.
>>
>>94914334
>And never made it into the show for good reason.

Because he was a second year figure, and not many of those made it onto the show outside of the repaints(because they're easier to remodel from existing CGI) besides Inferno(who was a more expensive figure). Not some of your own ass-drawn facts about him being too ugly, they would've probably made his CGI model better proportioned, anyway.

All the second year toys that didn't get into the show were largely adapted for Beast wars II over in Japan.
>>

Transformers has largely been ignored until the Bay movies, and sometimes still is

Most people have no idea Transformers continued after the late 80s and think you are the nerdiest of nerds for liking something based on a toyline, the Bay movies have made it so at least your average jock goes OH, YOU MEAN THE MOVIES WITH MEGAN FOX?
>>
>>94914910
The Bay movies made the brand relevant again, yes. But Transformers were STILL part of the pop-cult zeitgeist. You need to consider that during the 90's and 00's, the primary consumer was Gen X who were kids in the 80's, watching this show. The parents as well. Younger folk who were teens in the 00's, not as much. But the bulk of culture new what the fuck Transformers were.

Hasbro knows BW has a huge fan. They did a big re-issue for the tenth anniversary, gave Black Arachnia a huge role in TF Animated, and have made IDW start incorporating BW characters into IDW's new G1 canon (Rhynox, Rat Trap, Dinobot, Airrazor, Tigetron, Cheetor, Black Arachnia, Tarantula, the Mana Ray Happy Meal BW toy are main characters, with Rat Trap himself heavily featured as a villain type figure manipulating various characters for his own selfish game and a bunch of no-name non-show characters being the canon version of the Decepticon Mayhem Squad in IDW lore) and done quite a few new figures

The chief stumbling block for a full on revival are several fold:

1: People only give a shit about the show cast. Dreamwave did a mini-series with non-show characters and it was a huge sales flop.

2. Almost out of spite, Hasbro refuses to invalidate Beast Machines to continue the story in a way fans wanted. For all of his sins, Pat Lee (after the first Beast Wars mini with non-show characters flopped) managed to get Hasbro to let him do a proper season four mini that would replace Beast Machines from canon. But then the company collapsed and Hasbro basically refused point blank to let anyone else do it after Lee's fall from grace.

3. A reboot would be crippled by Hasbro's egomania, since most of what made Beast Wars a huge hit was Mainframe vetoing or talking down Hasbro from some of their more retarded ideas.

Guns would be removed, Rat Trap's reviled Beast Machines crippled form would be his main BW form, since Hasbro seriously wanted a downs syndrome cripple character in BW, Waspinator would be killed off first chance they could, and the cavemen characters would be pushed heavily for the sake of a token kid character.

much like how Optimus Primal said that the 1st transformers had to learn how to transform, it stands to reason that if the transformers with beast modes stayed in beast mode for too long, they would eventually succumb to their animal instincts.

Another possibility is that some kind of virus attacked them and made it impossible for them to transform and with the planet reformatted to support techno-organic life forms it could theoretically mean that it's a distinct possibility that the transformers who survived the virus had forgotten about their past abilities and origin

3rd best show the franchise ever had.

It's really hard to know the truth. I believe at the time of the 10th year anniversary, the story was that it just wasn't popular enough to warrant any large expenses. Beast Wars just didn't have the same nostalgia over a decade later that G1 did.

At least we're getting Masterpiece figures. I mean we got Cheetor to replace the Universe figure which has an insane value on the marketplace, and now we're getting Dinobot which had the same situation.

>>94891272
Homages/redesigns vary over the years. That Blackarachnia is not in the same league, being a remold of an Animated figure.
I really like when we get both improved, updated figures, as well as redesigns. I get annoyed when people tell me to settle for what we get. In my perfect world we'd have room for everything, MP and redesigns for BW, BM, and TransTech.

>>94887526
>all we ever had were vintage, reissues, or shitty homages.
>if you want Beast Wars, just get the original toys.
Are you that oblivious?

>>94914757
No, it's profits have accelerated because of Bay. It was still improving every year before that. If anything, Bay is the money that will accelerate the brand's capitalist implosion, as they make the Classics toys more cheaply until we're back where we started with "Fuck you, older fans. Take the homages in the kid's line and like it or leave it."

>>94914709
You're too certain of your diagnosis of MotU 200X's failure despite not having internal marketing data. If the show put heavy emphasis on the supporting characters to such a degree that the protagonist and antagonist wouldn't be the main sellers, why did they not sell as well as He-Man? I think it's more a case of Bay movie Bumblebee toys, where they just oversaturated rather than made poor balancing decisions.
It does look like they didn't put enough effort {into evaluating what would or wouldn't work and adjusting for that}

The problem is that every time they threw humans into the mix, it stopped being about Transformers.

It was always about humans living in a world with Transformers.
Not Transformers living in a world with humans.

Bayformers movies are one of the worst examples where it wasn't about Transformers, it was about Shia Laboeuf helping Transformers. The same goes for the post-Shia movies. Always about the scruffy mechanic guy and never about the Transformers. He just happened to need to help Transformers.

This annoyed me a lot when I was watching the anime series that Japan put out. Galaxy Force / Cybertron was pretty bad about this (probably the worst of the bunch) because those damn three kids had to be in the middle of goddamn everything.

That's only partly true. It's the big box stores like Target and Walmart that upped the prices. All of Hasbro's suggested retail prices were half of what the stores were charging. If oil really mattered that much, we wouldn't still be seeing 5 poa pieces of shit for $10 a pop.
