Anyway, have the later tomes elaborated on what makes the valley of kings so fucking special? So far, the only impressive thing is the spirit summoning, and even then, it's kind of meh.

The stuff practiced in the schools is limited to control of the elements, but the powers you can get from the Ethereal Source go way beyond that. Howard becomes a necromancer for example. Not to mention, the Kinglets were originally just regular people in the Valley until they did whatever they did to become demons.

Most of the people who really want to get to the Valley are just basing it all on myths and fairy tales though so their views are warped and it's not actually as great as they think. In this tome, you have the big headed guy with the tumors desperately trying to get to the Valley because he thinks no one can die there so by entering the Valley he'd become immortal. Marianne has to explain to him that that's not true. Howard wanted to get there because he thought it was the "true" universe and every other universe was just a shadow of it which was probably just his NEET delusions.

Basically, the people on "our" side see it as basically being Heaven. In truth, it's just a fantasy world with kung-fu wizards which is still pretty cool though not the utopia that they thought.
