I hear you, but this isn't just a typical random tech guy or some spec ops dude-bro in an action flick. Its a character that already has a pre-existing following and pre-existing expectations.

ajax was clever visually because he was a reflection of him. even his costume was similar to origins wade wilson. bulletproof vest with axes instead of swords, the bald head, and even the scene where copycat confused him for wade. comics ajax looks bland as fuck, he's just got a shinny power armor looking thing going on. the change in this case was worth it.

negasonic was also great. they originally planned a closer costume with all the tares on her clothes and long hair. but they decided to show a very comic book x-men uniform with looked great and then give her a younger goth look, sure it's not the long dreads and pale skin but she looks 30 in the comics. using a cute younger girl was perfect for the dynamic of colossus bringing in a rookie along. but she still was goth because her comic counterpart was goth. she still wore a long coat and stuff to give her that drapery look from the comics. but that bandanna thing she wears in the comics looks awful as fuck.

domino's casting of a black actress wouldn't have been at all an issue if they painted her white and black or black and white. it would even look 100X better than a regular white girl because it would look more mutant.
