I don´t expect old 52 pre flashpoint multiverse to come back as another "parallel" multiverse and DC making comics in that multiverse as they did with earth-1 and earth-2 but with multiverses

Hell, they're already there considering they had the cover of the book show up in Batman's cave instead of something that has personal significance to doc manhattan. I'd say they should just have the book itself show up but that actually might lead to something clever.

Expectations? Jack shit. I expect them to fumble around with some Watchmen characters and some trivial concepts like how one of the eight Flashes met another one, and at the end of it, I expect them to have changed literally nothing that matters. Everyone is predicting that this is going to be Johns taking a big crap on Watchmen for making superhero comics too serious, but people who think that also fundamentally misunderstand Watchmen. Watchmen was all about how superhero universes can't be overly realistic because heroes get old, die, become corrupt, etc. and a world with superheroes would be nothing like our world.

That's going to be the crux of this story, Manhattan will be the stand-in for executives who hate legacies and long histories and love #1's and reboots. From Manhattan's perspective, a world with superheroes is destined to fall into ruin if it's allowed to go on for too long. He took away ten years, and now time is coming for him to take ten years again.

Superman will represent all that is good about the DCU, the fact that it has a certain level of unreality and hope where Watchmen did not, a world where good DOES triumph over evil and we know who the villains are.

The culmination is going to be Superman showing Manhattan the entire history of the DC multiverse, from More Fun Comics and Action #1, to the JSA and the hope they inspired, to the larger-than-life stories of Flash and the JLA, to the 70's heroes who were more realistic but still always won over evil, to the crossovers of the 80's and 90's, and to the pre-Flashpoint days where legacies were beloved, and he's gonna show him that even the times that weren't so great or ended badly, it's all part of the history and what sets it apart from the Watchmen universe.

It will end with Manhattan realizing that even though nothing ever ends, that's OK, because it's worth seeing where it's all going, and even if time is a little fucked up and confusing, the present is all that matters, and he'll restore the entirety of the DCU's history into continuity with hypertime or something.

The covers seem amazing and it seems to understand the watchmen very well.

Superman literally deconstructed with Dr. Manhattan looming in the background. As a direct imagery of the Watchmen deconstructing the superhero genre. I am a bit worried that it's Johns writing it as I really have never seen him as a "philosophical writer" that would be required for a story like this.

Because where Manhattan goes after Watchmen is completely irrelevant to the story of Watchmen, while the indirect effect Watchmen had on the entire industry and especially DC has continued indefinitely.

People anticipating Ozymandias and Rorschach showing up are wrong, screencap this if you have to. This isn't about integrating these characters, it's about making a counterpoint to Watchmen: that superhero worlds can be realistic and explore complex, realworld themes without compromising the ideals that superheroes stand for, and that having a shared universe with a long undending history with lots of characters doesn't limit storytelling potential.

Do I think it's going to adequately or intelligently accomplish this message? I don't know, but I'm doubtful. But I don't think Watchmen is a sacred cow that made the final word on superheroes like many said, and I don't think cynicism is the only way to broach the idea of superheroes in the real world.

While he's not wrong that DocMan can fuck with time, there's very probably a lot of other characters who could do the same thing.

Hell, Darkseid was in the midst of subjugating all of reality before 3/7ths of the current Justice League killed him, and he didn't even die until after he had already evolved past the need for a physical body and had become the very concept of evil. Now, that's not to say that Johns should use Darkseid over DocMan, because that would just end up being a rehash of Final Crisis, I'm just saying that there are other characters who can do exactly what DocMan is doing in Doomsday Clock.

As far as him messing around with hope? For what purpose? Why would he just look at the DCU and go "You know what? Fuck this. You guys have too much hope. I'm sick of it." And then just banish Wally to Whereverthefuck? Again, there are other pre-established characters IN the DCU that could fit this role perfectly and better.

Pre flashpoint did return, it just got merged properly with the New52, it happened in Superman reborn, Superman has had a 15+ year career now, batman and Wonder woman likely had the same. All this event will do on this front will reinforce this
