It started in 2001 and SJWs weren't really a thing back then. They were trying to avoid having an all-white cast and Pete Ross was minor enough that his race could be changed. Lana was probably a case where she looked white enough that they didn't care. It's not like she had an asian family on the show.

As the series went on, they never race-bent any other DC characters, if I'm remembering correctly.

You do realize that any comic from the 1930s to the 1950s is full of white folk and only white folk?

And you do realize that even farms in Kansas today, much less a high school in Manhattan, or any place else a comic is set, wouldn't be totally one race. Not really. He wasn't in the original comics like Lois was (in Action #1). Even Perry and Jimmy pre-date Lana and Pete.

Lana and Pete were essentially just brought in to be the Lois and Jimmy of the Superboy comics and they didn't get introduce until 1949, so they are almost Silver Age. The first Superboy stories (More Fun and Adventure) didn't have them.
