I have a hard time telling myself. My generous nature leads me to believe what we typically see are the crazies and the edgy teens whose particularly ludicrous work simply draws the most attention. I don't really think this makes up a significant portion of the people who enjoy sonic, even the more narratively driven Sonic spinoff stuff.

Much like capeshit, I think it's characterfags fault, to be honest. People grow attached to these characters and that mixes with their edgy fantasies and ideas about interesting stories. There's always that canon image in the back of their minds, or more likely their own warped perception of the character, that they then use stories like this to build off of. It's weird to think that anything like this might come from an appreciation of canon, but it's all relative. I suppose thinking of it like that I can understand why they do it. It's just never been my thing myself.

Nor is it too unique to the Sonic fandom. Sonic characters being cutesy, chibi animal people just highlights it, but this shit has infected online fandom since forever. It's why I could never get into fanfiction as a kid: it just wasn't worth sifting through the piles of bizarre OOC or focus on edgy drama like Sonic Nova. From what my more intune with fandom nonsense friends tell me, not much has changed over the years.

I don't really know what's up with all the weird porn. Just furries being furries, I guess.

This whole thread put me 4-tiers up the autism spectrum, but I'm ultimately strangely satisfied that I read through the whole comic.
