I couldn't stomach more than an episode or two of the series because it seemed loud and stupid compared to the genuine weirdness of the pilot.

I think it went from being "Excellent" to just "Decent" at season 2, the animation seemed off in ways I'm probably too dumb to describe, I didn't care for the plots and the episodes just seemed too convoluted in a bad way where the earlier episodes felt chaotic and free-flowing the later episodes just didn't feel like they had room to breath out and just let things move from 1 situation to another.

But then again, I haven't watched Superjail in years so maybe I'm remembering it wrong, this thread makes me want to go and watch it again.

China Il was just pure garbage, especially compared to Brad Neely's Youtube stuff. I don't know how it turned out to be so bad, same for Sclopio Peepio, just builing on or even adapting his Youtube stuff would have been a recipe for success but instead he was given 2 chances and just turned out 2 sub-par shows

I mean, I doubt it was a case of executive meddling given that he was pretty much a nobody so was presumably hired because they liked his work, I think he just tried to "try something new" and ended up trying too hard in all the wrong directions. It actively pisses me off just thinking about how badly a golden opportunity was missed with Brad Neely.

Ash has a much better personality for sure. He's a great character. Warden is a horrible manchild but I find his design too appealing. Even after all these years since the pilot first premiered, I still like him a whole lot.

I agree. The Warden's design is very appealing, and he can be cute. I think he only turned out the way he did due to his upbringing and the fact he was just a child when he became a warden.

I thought it was cute when the Warden tried to be Ash's friend though. Up until they set the whole jail on fire and lost control, anyway.

I actually watched the whole series for the first time this year. I think people are a little too harsh on the other seasons that aren't season 1. A good chunk of the later seasons is actually quite good.

Season 1 is excellent

The first half of season 2 is extremely awkward and the animation change is jarring. The first couple of episodes here feel like they were written by people who didn't understand what worked with the show in its first season. This is the low point of the show as well as when a lot of people gave up on it.

The second half of season 2 is quite good. The show finds its groove again and it settles into it's new animation style quite nicely.

Season 3 is good too.

Season 4 is mediocre.

Also this show never got "story heavy" like some people keep mentioning. There's character continuity and there are episodes that lead into one another but that only happens twice. Most of the show was still in the same format as the first season.
