I would assume execs are pretty leery of getting into a situation where most of the people watching their cartoon and buying its toys are adults, because the parents of children who catch wind of that dynamic will likely steer their kids away from the whole thing. One of those situations where modest success with one demographic is actually a form of failure because it locks out the demographic the product is really trying to get.

I also question whether Netflix and similar services are good ways to reach a very young audience. Kids who have access to a device that runs these services are going to be much more likely to play videogames or watch youtube than sit through a streaming service's show.
