I was just thinking about this. Always Sunny never bothered me no matter how bad it got, while Rick and Morty generally leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I think it's because the former is basically making fun of its characters and how awful they are, usually giving them exactly the fate they deserve, while the latter seems to celebrate the worst aspects of its characters and lets them get away with anything because they're 'above it all'. When it was just Rick I didn't mind because there was a kind of balance between him and the rest of the family, but now it seems like they're all just a bunch of nihilistic assholes. I could actually care about Always Sunny's characters because life shat on them as much as they shat others, making them actually somewhat relatable and even likable despite their depravity. They were largely shaped by horrible upbringings which made them partially sympathetic, without ever excusing their actions. In contrast there's absolutely nothing relatable or likable about Rick and Morty's cast, no excuse for their behaviour, nothing interesting or sympathetic about them. I don't care about any of them, and kind of just find them boring at this point. I don't care about their problems, their relationships, their inner conflicts or anything else about them (completely in contrast to Always Sunny, where every character is fascinating in their own way). I enjoy watching their adventures because sometimes they can be funny and creative, but the more the writers try to make me care about these pieces of shit, the less I can enjoy the show.

Every problem the characters in R&M have can ultimately be traced back to their own personal failings, even if only in the sense that the family tolerates and thus enables Rick's most destructive tendencies. Their spite, arrogance, vanity, greed, shortsightedness and selfishness produce almost all of the conflict in the show and are responsible for almost all of their misery and frustration. Most of the "villains" in the show are just people reacting with disgust and righteous fury towards Rick and company for his seemingly endless laundry list of misdeeds.
