Only complete morons think Moore doesn't like capes. He does. He doesn't like the edgy serious direction capes have gone in because he thinks it's counter to what they were created for. That's specifically what Watchmen was about-- being the ultimate statement on how capes being in a realistic or serious world would inherently make them grim and edgy.

That's what he means when he says capes were originally created for children and have been co-opted by this older group that wants to make them solely into entertainment for themselves. WHTTMOT is a story that, while asking questions to the reader about morality, is still set in a world where good always wins and the ultimate message is hopeful and optimistic. That's what he thinks capes should be.

Well said. Miracleman is great but it's about superheroes. Watchmen uses superheroes to talk about the real world. That's why it's literature. But almost not writers who came after understood the distinction. And I can understand why that frustrates Moore.
