Dragonball Z has Saiyans, a warrior race who are super strong fighters and get stronger when a) they get mad or b) get to a point when they almost die or even die if they find a way to come back to life

Broly has Saiyan Autism, in which he was born with a ridiculous power level as a baby AND they tried to kill him and dumped his supposed corpse into space. He HATES the hero because he cried so loud as a baby next to baby Broly and Broly associates him with his trauma, so Broly gets REALLY mad and never STOPS being mad, so his power level increases infinitely. And his pure rage enables him to become a Super Saiyan, but his pure Saiyan rage version of it, what's known as a Legendary Super Saiyan

He's literally a movie special character where they sat down and thought "What would make the perfect Saiyan?" and have the heroes fight him. But don't take my word for it, do yourself a favor and watch what almost everyone here already watched with Linkin Park music in their preteens

I do have the manga (collected all of them). DB was pretty much my childhood. But looking at the series as an adult you realize how shit it is. In terms of martial arts, it's one of the worst manga I've ever seen. The power level shit and planet busting was cool at first but got old real quick. The adventure and battle aspects of DB are garbage, only iconic because they're old and nostalgic. And this is coming from someone who literally had DB characters on my birthday cake every year as a kid and who entered an art competition to draw Goku. Dragonball is not all that good without nostalgia goggles.

While I have my reservations about all the Manta fuss, to be fair in that instance it was shown that he was attempting to compose himself and was almost managing to do so until one twat happened to feel like fellating Aquaman there and then.
Black Manta simply had to kill him for that, it seems, and since everyone else saw well he had to kill them too sort of, I'd say he did it to avoid the cops alerting Aquaman of his presence or authorities learning his details in general since he goes out his way to blow the place up, again it's possible that wasn't necessary and just done from impulse though. While he's fully disguised, he's also rather loud and showy. I'm not sure exactly how discreet he can be claimed to be. There were other ways to have dealt with that mouthy customer discreetly. Poisoned fish or following him home would have sufficed, though I guess Black Manta prefers a hands on approach for the sake of catharsis..

I think the Kakarotto thing is just a trigger to Broly's final transformation, and a Legendary Super Saiyan will always be mad, no matter where he's born. Broly only saw Kakarotto again once both were both in their 20s, and Paragus said that during his infancy/puberty, Broly was already mad.

The kind of character that Broly, Hulk, Juggernaut and Doomsday exemplify will always be popular for a single reason. There's something utterly cathartic in watching a single guy wrecking everybody's shit on his own, and proceeding forwards (optional) undeterred.

See Doomday's rampage through the United States, Juggernaut always moving towards his objective, and so on. You want to see people (be them heroes or villains) try to stop this guy, and utterly fail.

That's their appeal. They're unstoppable.
