While what you said is all too true, I was more talking about when shows do try to have a relationship, they supplant actual development and conflict in favor of ship teasing. Instead of exploring or trying to show the answers to the questions "What makes these two characters compatible with each other personality wise? In what interesting and entertain ways can their personalities bounce off of each other? How can they help each other grow and develop as people and characters? How and why would they get close enough with each other to build up a relationship?", some shows just shove two characters into "wacky and zany" scenarios, so that they go "Look at these two! Look and cute they are together. They aren't actually a couple, but they could be". Or they make one of the characters have a crush or have feelings for the other without any given reason why, or just skipping past the actual interesting parts to say "hey they're a couple now". It just feels empty and hollow and altogether unsatisfying.

I think they're saying the grass arm is functionally identical to a real arm as far as character design goes. Finn "got his arm back" for the viewers and for his physical interactions with other characters and such. No? Not at all. Marcy is (was) an aloof prankster who fucked with people because she didn't care about nothing anymore and nowadays she's more nicer and open.
Huntress is someone who shuts herself off from almost everyone else and denies herself happiness because she thinks happiness will weaken her.

The only way you could say they're similar is that they both fit the bill of "cool mysterious girl" but even then Marcy hasn't been mysterious in years.

Not only are they cool and mysterious girls, they are also innately self-interested. They pursue their own life goals and define their success by their own measures. They also happen to be non-feminine females, playing on the desire of boys to have girlfriends with interests they understand.
