There is a massive flux of shipfaggotry and fandom obsession I've noticed in /co/ as of late. On top of that this board is incredibly reactionary to /pol/ bait and overall pretty gay. That finale wasn't really that ooc for Max, looking back now we know that his nihilistic attitude is merely a facade, but for all the shitty family problems to be resolved with a shitty "and they lived happily ever after" would just feel like a backstab, especially when we know that parents like Nurf's go way beyond what is considered redeemable (his mom being in prison and his dad being physically abusive, I actually wonder who he lives with), other parents are divorced and you know couples don't just magically get back together...
If anything, seeing as how Camp Camp as a show doesn't really like to follow tropes, or at least that's how I perceive it, I'd expect something more like: Max's parents turn so shitty that they end up actually dying, and David adopts him. Or, as a more grounded alternative, nothing changes, and everyone just keeps having shitty families.
I'm not necessarily saying that they won't do what you're suggesting, but to be honest if they did, I would lose all respect for this series.
Coming from a shitty family, I am kind of sensitive to this stuff, and I hate when they resolve it like that.

Yes I know it's half assed, but tragedies don't sell today (tragedies as in plots with negative endings), most shows nowadays want to reinforce positivity because this world has become quite negative.
Personally, I'd say it's a 33/33/33 chance we get either a good, bad or regular ending.
You might be right, solving something as complicated as an awful family requires an entire life and not 20 minutes, so I'd prefer a regular ending where his life is still shitty, yet he made new friends (everyone in the camp plus optionally woodscouts and flowerscouts).

To be honest? same, I just proposed it because I have nostalgia for the Matilda movie and I always had a soft spot for its ending, so maybe if they made one referencing it it wouldn't have felt as bad, I'm not even really fond of the whole "david adopts max" idea that is so popular in the fandom, I just like the thought of him being able to escape without the family magically turning good, thought that's just as unlikely, I know.
They could make it positive even if the families are still shitty, for example by pointing out how "even if their families are shitty they will eventually grow up and get to live on their own so at least there's that, plus at least they made good friends so that's better than nothing".
I do also think that Max will realize that he wasted a whole summer being angry and miserable when he could've tried to be more comfortable and happy that he's away from home, I think that realization will hit him hard.

What I hate the most about that adoption bullshit is that it comes straight out of Tumblr's mental gymnastics. These people deep inside want gay shit with Max and David, they just rebrand it and replace romance with family love. They pretend they are morally superior than those pedos who draw them kissing or fucking. When actually both scenarios would be both retarded and could never be canon.
Then you check the content and it's just a whole bunch of hurt/comfort nonsense, and the characters feel like entirely different beings, bland and boring as fuck.
I think the positivity comes actually from Nikki and Neil, their company has kept Max in a good mood because at least he shares interests or feels they are tolerable and even relatable at points.
That's what I think could realistically happen next Friday, they rush to help Max or support him.
His parents will probably thank David for taking care of him and try to be better, not perfect but at least not full abusive like it has been implied.

It's actually not that out there. I'm not very familiar with this series but foster care is geared toward building permanent families. Reuniting bio families is optimal, but if that's not possible because the bio parents are unwilling or unable, adoption is preferred over a kid just drifting until 18 without a permanent home.

If David was willing to meet the requirements of the foster care system (not hard, unfortunately - if he has housing with 2 bedrooms and a hygienic bathroom and no criminal history, he's basically good) then it could move pretty seamlessly into adoption after a year or two. David would've been 14 when Max was born, but siblings with a similar age gap are granted guardianship if they can meet the requirements.
