Brendan got too up his own ass about the story, to the point that it was detracting from the comedy. It also took too long to advance the plot. If you want to do a serialized story, just do it and don't pad it out with almost a full season of filler.

Not a problem with the show at large, but a personal gripe for me: They stopped writing joke songs. The music in the first couple of seasons were minute-long joke songs like a death metal coffee jingle or a metal song about filing your taxes. It poked fun at the grimdark seriousness inherent to the genre by making it about mundane topics. But a few seasons in, they were just writing actual full length, non comedy metal songs. Which may have been more appreciated by actual metal fans, but it just contributed to the show feeling weird and unsure of who its audience was supposed to be.

Why pay for a cartoon and to effectively support a band/recordings/instruments.

When you can support something far cheaper and quicker like Rick and Morty. The Payoff is faster and the appeal spreads quicker.

In my teens I saw a lot of Metalocalypse stuff but was put off by clips and only really got into it a year or so before Doomstar Requiem. It was good, but I can see why AS decided to pursue cheaper more marketable areas.

That's the most retarded thing i've ever read. The show was cheap to make from the beginning, R&M is far more expensive with all the alien/human designs. RM often has episodes with more character designs than whole cartoon shows entire run.

I don't know why ya'll comparing S1 Metalocalypse and S3 Rick and Morty. Issue was it got to expensive to run a band and a show. The payoff was minimal for the work going into it.

When Rick and Morty's AS pilot hit it got good viewership for the very limited amount of money AS sunk into it. S1 returned greater viewing figures and more approachable and even viral appeal that Metalocalypse didn't have.

That whole season of 30 minute episodes was real bad. All the stories had to be stretched to fit the run time, the show lost its fast pace and quick wit. Murderface turned into the biggest doormat tool.
I would've made the season 11 minute episodes, focus on moving the plot and have everything end on the Rock Opera. What were they thinking trying to do another season after the opera? You can only go down from there.

Murderface got shafted in Doomstar. The least amount of singing or speaking lines, and they didn't even use Tommy Blacha at all. Then that ending scene happened, and nothing came of it.

I really can't judge either his music or Dethklok's. RL metalheads I know said Dethklok is 'ok' and 'entry level' metal but I can't get into 'real' metal to begin with because I like being able to hear lyrics and some sort of tonal stability in my life.

I would imagine if Dethklok was anymore garbled it would have put off a lot more normies.
