I understand Zack wants to explore a lot of different plots, but this is not how you go about it. He wants to do all of them at the same time, because he knows if he waits, it'll be literal years before he even touches on one.

This is what one more page a week does. Gunnerkrigg court has only done 3 pages a week for the last like 8 years, and Tom is on chapter SIXTY-FOUR.

Like, I don't mind the club having an age diversity, but this brings up some problems:
1. the fact that almost all of the kid characters are of the same grade, and so happens to be in the same classes as Max. This means the perspective of the school setting is more skewed to whoever's in class with Max (compare that to the Powerpuff Girls where the Townsville folk are often given the spotlight as much as the girls).

2. There wasn't even the subtlest of hints in visuals / dialogue prior to (shoehorned) Ch5P104 that indicate Isaac being in that grade as a possibility. His POV only took one page off the entire comic. ONE FREAKIN' PAGE.

You know something? My favorite thing in the world is when someone takes a stupid fucking idea and makes gold with it. Whenever I hear a really high quality mashup of two incredibly different songs that should never work, but someone makes it work, that fills me with immeasurable joy. The fact that Barkley's Shut up and Jam Gaiden is a thing and a thing that is GOOD makes me so fucking giddy. When someone takes a bad idea and makes it good just by caring about it and being willing to put the work in to make it good, that's the stuff that makes life worth living.

This is the opposite. This is the darkest sadness I've ever felt, the deepest anger. This webcomic should have been a slam dunk. This was a GOOD IDEA on it's own that only needed passable execution to get by. If the jokes were still good and the plot was still good then I would be fine with the new art. But now that's been slowly ruined because they stopped caring and no one will probably care enough to go back and fix the things that went wrong.

I remember when PNat's gags seemed effortly genius, almost Simpsons like in their implementation. The use of wordplay was multilayered and intricate, and the backgrounds offered tons of little details that made you smile no matter how long you scoured through them.

Also, should the school be a one-year-only middle school as you said, Isaac shouldn't be in the club in the first place...but there might be no other meeting places for spectral children to go, so of course he goes there. If that's the case, how does he go back and forth between the club and the 8th grade school that he attends?

Don't get wrong, I'm quite confident on how accurate Zack is trying to portray his comic's settings (for obvious reasons). I just think it could've been conveyed much better visually...y'know, take good advantage of the webcomic medium. And with better planning (I still think Zack didn't think of this aspect wholly and he changed the details of Isaac's age and grade at the last minute).

Paranatural dragged me in when Suzy threw her phone at max, and I had really high hopes for it. I took a good 4 month break from the series and it breaks my heart that NOTHING has happened. His pacing is reaching ASOIAF level, where he keeps expanding on these side characters. He should consider switching to a novel format with pictures to supplement

It's because they were so understated. Max being snarky in the middle of a serious discussion does not detract from the scene, especially because his character is known to be snarky. Boss Leader being zany and eccentric and then imparting something important is not out of place, because she is known for being zany and eccentric. Same with Spender, he's a bit of a dork, and the exchange between him and Isabel's grandfather manages to be both hilarious and genuinely interesting on a dramatic level. But when Dr. Zarei, a character who has been mostly cold and subdued begins making ~*~*~*~whacky faces~*~*~*~ and stammering and blushing like a schoolgirl, it just cheapens her character. You can have her be flustered around Agent Day if you want, but christ, tone it down a notch.

Something I read a while ago gave me some insight on this matter. Basically, because of the post-irony era -- yeah, that term is slowly ceasing to be a joke -- people find themselves currently in, the only way of getting a point across is to coat it with self-deprecating, meta gags that constantly remind the audience this is totally not like those 'other' so serious, so naive stories where they actually believed in something.

As if the author were saying, "yeah, I get you can't trust in anything or anybody anymore, but hey, neither can I, ha ha, ya think I'm writing this because I actually do?"

The article in question brought up The Lego Movie; how its message of "everybody is special" is trite, but the audience buys it because the aesop lampoons itself every time it's brought up and even gets compared to "those cat posters". As if the only way to get any message across these days, is by acting like the message were a lie in the first place.

TL;DR - it's a return of 90s existential anguish, but to the power of two

Yeah, I'm talking about Isaac's PoV. Obviously Max isn't a AC loyalist, but by refusing to spill to Isaac, he's seen that way.
Spender also feels really bad about Isaac's position, obviously emphasizing since he's possessed as well, but he's to awkward and plays it off with humor that Issaac interprets as mockery.

At least to Isaac's perception, but the thing is Max is doubtful of the Consortium himself and doesn't actually agree to heed a request of Boss Leader's request who would otherwise do unspeakable things to Max, AFAICR.

If Max was holding this information so he can play being the journalist and learn for himself bit by bit about said Consortium's workings, that would be great. But he had to be so freaking daft and spout out Day's rank on a friend who's desperate to understand what his Club membership is for...and that friend also has a way out of Mayview plus they need each other to get away from Johnny's gang without even Spender finding out! Max's burning both bridges! (Really pissed off at this one.)
