In current comic continuity, Jihaxus was intrigued by the concept of gender and sex, so he went Mad Scientist on Arcee and turned her from a gender neutral cybertronian into a female, just to see the psychological and social effects of introducing gender into a formerly genderless society. It's a subtle bit of horror. Some part of the other Transformers know Arcee is different and they use specific gendered pronouns to refer to her without even realizing that they're doing it, that to them she is Other, even if they don't consciously realize or accept it.

There's also the long-isolated city that was all-female, but aside from the Windblade mini-series, I have no info on them, so I can't give more details other than they were separated from Cybertron for millions of years and in that time, they thought robo-tits and birthing hips would be good accessories.

canon answer: When you don't have a way of categorizing some things about yourself, and the differences between some people, then you don't always notice them. When introduced to a name for a concept you see the shape of it better, and things that fit it, in your mind, fit it even more than they really do. So when you see those things in yourself you pull them out and focus on them more.

Genderless alien robots being introduced to the concept of gender will then look at what is attributed to the genders they see and if they see a bit of themselves represented there they will begin to identify with that concept more, and they'll allow those aspects of their personality to become exaggerated, and in some cases set loose when previously held back.

Terry Pratchett did this with the dwarves in the discworld books. It was interesting.

The Functionists were not confirmed as eradicating all the ladies; that is just fanon. Logical fanon based upon what we know, but still fanon.

There have been female transformer cameos on Cybertron before the war, and that is explained by Anode as partly being from "male" transformers becoming influenced by other alien species (often by fighting with or against them).

I am not a huge fan of transformers, so I don't really know a lot about them, but I've always thought 'female' transformers as a kind of post-organic-exposure kind of deal.

Like, you've got transformers who don't know anything about sex or gender, but they spy some organics doing their thing and then think to themselves, "I want that!" But I didn't really picture it hitting off or becoming really popular 'till they were exposed to humans, whom they probably thought was a better contextual proxy and started going, "Oh, okay, that makes way more sense."

What I'm getting at is female transformers are almost certainly down to fuck, even the ones who're just doing it for aesthetic reasons.

In all seriousness though everything has its stereotypes in sex, even certain big aspects of goth. Gender is a social construct of the sexes, which while includes stereotypes is not indicative of them, it came from them, it can't exist without them. A sexless robot cannot have gender even it it conforms to sexual stereotypes because those stereotypes come from another race.

Transformers that slap big tits on themselves, use feminine pronouns and even give themselves big puffy lips is no more gender than me going down to the goth store wanting to get the Bayonetta look.

The trans stuff simply has no place in transformers to begin with unless it's a human character. First off cybertronians are alien. We cannot impose our human understanding of sexual binary and gender spectrum onto something that has had alien development. They're fairly analogous to humans but that's o my surface appearance.
