When there is a huge discrepancy between both numbers, you can tell that the book had a huge amount of overshipping put on it. For example, last month Guardians of the Galaxy #4 was rank 34 in unit sales (47K), but rank 102 in dollar sales. Rank 102 in dollar sales was actually near 25K for sales.

This month, Guardians of the Galaxy has dropped to unit rank 95, with sales at 24K. The dollar rank is also close to it, which could mean that Marvel actually sent out 20,000 free copies of that book to stores last month to inflate the sales.

So when someone high up at Marvel sees a tumblr post about diversity in comics with 1.2 million notes, they're thinking that if they can get 10% of these people to buy a comic they have a hit. In reality 1.2 million people did not give enough of a shit to buy a comic, they gave enough of a shit to hit a button, they probably didn't even read the post. The comic related trades led the way , and by far and away were the best sellling books for the 3 day event

I honestly don't care, I don't buy floppies anyway (except older, rarer, ones that have never been collected in a trade), but growing up this is how I read Spideyr/X-Men/Avengers. Here in the UK our newsagents used to get in anthologies of two or three issues (that were probably months old in the US), and it felt good to read, and like it was worth the money. It was like a mini trade. I read the entire Clone Saga in that fortmat, even bought a years subscription.

If this format came back, it might do well, as very few younger readers have easy and consistant access to a LCBS. The local shop/store however?

It also sells better to parents. It looks closer to a book and value for money. Hand mommy a 30 page floppy (inb4 degeneracy) and tell her the price, and it isn't getting bought.
