It wasn't all that good for me.

I wanted to like it, but something about the episode just made me dislike it and ambivalent about future episodes.

At least S1,2 switched between shit and good episodes.

I don't know if this is /co/'s weird hateboner or a backlash to the praise for the season outside of /co/ influencing me, but I just didn't dig this episode. I'm getting tired of Rick jerking himself off, the boring slog of grimdark, the "haha everything sucks these tropes suck" comments with very little actually being said. Just annoying.

The only thing I particularly enjoyed was that Morty seemed to have a sort of meta sense of being able to know the whole thing was predictable and that Rick just wants to torture everyone over their faults while having the most of them. The whole thing was insanely predictable, that the main cool guy would die first or that the heroes would turn out to not be the heroes they thought they were due to rick, but overall it's just more rick and morty humor which isn't really funny.

I'd prefer the writers stopped trying to go for some deep and meaningful philosophical shit about how nihilism is the only way to go and just do a couple stupid episodes. The Vindicators being The Boys tier of awful people was actually more predictable than them being genuinely good heroes saddled with a drunk scientist with a god complex and a increasingly disillusioned and self-aware awkward kid. Thus the superhero bits were actually the worst and laziest parts of the episode, though Million Ants was actually a pretty cool idea for a character.

The train-ride reveal got an actual solid laugh from me, which is something the previous episodes couldn't.

Overall the episode was watchable. I fear they are slipping down the familiar rabbit hole where they think that explaining something in a meta sense then doing it is somehow better than just doing it.

I liked that it was actually RICK AND MORTY instead of the beth and summer show like the past episodes. I also liked the emotions whiplash with Morty at the end. It was both funny and touching. Even with the twist about Gnom Gnom it was still clear Rick did all that shit because he was jelous. So far this season rick has been unlikeable,but not in a funny way. This episode made him the rick he really is:an asshole,but someone who does care for morty.
Anyways next episode is Rick and Jerry so these 2 episodes will probably redeem this season for me. I hated pickle rick,the premiere and the mad max one. I liked this one.

Let me tell you about season 1's TV sandbox episode. I loved the idea, everyone just sitting around watching alternative universe on their TV. Which in reality is just the cliche "what if" idea. I appreciate the fact that this episode has more the feel of old rick and morty, but the premise didn't really deliver.

Felt like a really hit and miss episode on the whole. Rick shitting on crocubot was absolutely terrible and unfunny, and it didn't even end well, it just ended with a party and a cameo and the villain of the episode just... nothing happened to them, which is just bizarre. Like the writer wrote themselves into a corner and just went with the first thing that came to mind: a goddamn party.

But it did have a few moments that I really appreciated. This episode could probably have been great if only the writer spent a few more weeks on it.

The entire episode was about the changing relationship between Rick and Morty, the two main characters.

Rick lays more cards out on the table and demonstrates that even after all this time, he doesn't think Morty is special and that he doesn't need to do anything to stop their relationship from falling apart.

Morty on the other hand shows just how tattered that relationship is. He knows how full of shit Rick is, he's gone past desensitized to it to now being able to proactively deal with it. Morty is catching up to Rick. He's still not there--he thought that Rick actually did care about him, not noobnoob--but he's on a clear character arc and the tension between the two of them is only continuing to escalate.

It's just your fault you're too stupid to pick up on basic things like this.

Episode was great, imo. But you know why this season has been lacking? The thing missing from season 1 and 2? JERRY. All we're getting this season is rick, rick, and rick. Which I like, but this is too much. Jerry was a nice break from Rick because he's basically his opposite. I thought the divorce would be a good thing, because that meant no more Jerry and Beth fighting stories. I thought the b stories would instead revolve around Jerry out on his own from now on. But nope. Barely any Jerry this season and when we did see him, they just shit on him to the point where the literal wind calls him a loser even though he's in the right. I know next episode will focus on Jerry, but I don't want an episode every now and then to focus on Jerry. I want him back in the main cast.

I do like the progression of Morty being used to Rick's tendencies but I still liked it more when they were actually fighting bad guys instead of Rick creating all the problems, being stupid like everyone he looks down on then saying a science quote and a pop culture reference to act superior. There could be a point in making the viewers experience the cycle of abuse that Morty has to but for me it comes at the expense of humor.

I liked how the episode set up the Vindicators as pretty terrible from the start and that Rick was right. Even though Rick is obviously a terrible person it's brought up early on that they destroyed a planet and ended up killing half of their own diverse cast because they were being fuckheads about it, when they could've just called Rick who would've solved the issue really quickly and probably at the cost of less lives. What seems like a throwaway point becomes the entire point of the episode when Rick's tests are easy as fuck but fall apart because of how dysfunctional under the skin they are. It does the standard Rick and Morty thing of not taking these small gag elements for granted and I've liked that about these last two episodes. Even if it retreads a lot of "everything sucks" themes it at least does so in a well defined context and I at least like that it's giving Morty a lot more autonomy than usual.

The only thing that I didn't like was the Israel joke, not necessarily because it didn't land (I like the idea of even Rick being scared about things he does when he's drunk), but because the setup for it lacks context. Considering how easy all of those tests were that one strikes me as the one thing the Vindicators wouldn't be able to solve even if they were co-ordinated. Crocubot only died because he actually thought he had the solution figured out, which felt rather unearned. That's a test only Morty would've solved.
