Really liked the idea of the tapestries all being exaggerated, but the actual confrontation between Moon and Toffee still seemed off/lacking somehow. They played the most basic idea of it too literally or something; I almost feel a narration or something from Moon over silent/dramatized scenes could have gotten across the same idea but executed better.

It also felt like we could have, maybe should have, seen more involving Moon's mother and the aftermath of the image in the OP-- not even because I necessarily wanted them to, but because it looked right up until the end of the movie that we were going to. Like Buff Frog calls her out more directly on what she did against monsters in the past, or Toffee alludes to killing the previous queen, or something, anything like that. Somehow I was expecting a followup that never came.

Rest of the episode was generally decent but it seems like it could have been done better just compared to other entire episodes in the series. Maybe it could've worked better as a full half hour.

Aside from the obvious Eclipsa backstory, I hope not. We don't have an unlimited number of episodes left as it is and developing the story in the present should take priority. Hell, even the Silver Bell Ball shit, if that is indeed a flashback, feels like overkill.

Janna was originally planned to just be a bit character, but the writers found that Janna lent herself well to saying/doing funny stuff, so they kept her around. Meanwhile, boring characters like Ferguson and Alphonso were phased out. They are all both unnecessary to the overall plot, which makes it easy for Nefcy to add them in or chop them out. There isn't going to be an deep Janna storyarc, she's just meant to be a fun character.

I think of the 3 you don't want, Jackie is the most likely from her perspective if she appears in a meaningful capacity at all. Though Pony Head will at least get an episode with her sisters.

Honestly it probably will have some of that shit, going by how much lore etc. was in the guidebook, stuff like a map of Mewni and a detailed look at how the wand works, etc. At the very least I don't think they're going to pass up showing spells and stuff from Eclipsa and Moon. If they wanted it to be just Star and no one else, there was nothing stopping it from being only "Star's Notebook of Spells" from the show and yet it clearly isn't (though that seems likely to be part of it too).

Actually from the cover, which could still change, I get the sense it might even be written at least partly from the perspective of Glossaryck, like similar sections in the guidebook. From the tapestries etc. I get the sense they're interested in the former queens too.

In order of likelihood:
Eclipsa's arc seems to be the focus for this season, so I expect her backstory being shown in small amounts here and there, with only one episode/segment shared among Star and herself to show backstory and some parallelisms without being too spoilering.
If Toffee gets something at all, it would be sprinkled on said Eclipsa's mentions, but I won't count on that.
I can totally see PH and Tom having one or two segments that could be used to explore the different realms of Mewni as well as their relation with the main characters.
Personally I can't see Jackie or Janna having that much for themselves, but seeing the big role the former got in the relationship arc (something the staff seems to be pushing still), and the fact that the latter is in the new intro, I can't be sure.

using "from their perspective" very loosely as an episode with a heavy amount of focus on them, since no one besides Marco really gets episodes centered around them when other characters are there. Moon's episode had the excuse of being a flashback and if anyone else gets flashbacks it'll be Eclipsa and Toffee, the Buff Frog/Ludo episodes in the past were plot-centered/on Mewni and had to take place separate from other characters because of their premises alone

Tom mostly for the leak with Star, flashback or not, they still need to stray Starco, but not only that, there will be episode with him and Marco for sure, and of course exploration of what is the underground kingdom.
PH is like Nefcy child, of course there will be an ep about her, that probably gonna be about her kingdom.
I dunno what i can expect about Toffee after his keikaku was literally recover his finger, but maybe something related about the lizards?
Jackie, if she just gonna be Marco gf just to make Star jealous then you can't expect much more about her, i would consider her Oskar tier at this point.
Janna, i dunno, an explanation of why she likes dark stuff and why she is really interested in Marco maybe.

Jackie is not Oskar tier, I'm sorry. Even if she got little time of her own, she got like 5 episodes dedicated specifically to her at least as an objective or a force in the plot. Oskar's only real "serious" role was in Starcrushed, to make Star realize how much she outgrew him. Star on Wheels was kind of a main role for him too but in a comic relief sort of way.

Star's pursuit of Oskar was never serious. Marco's for Jackie was.
