That's the point. It's a reference to shazam and you expect it to be shazam, but he subverts your expectations and makes it shaman instead because he's making a statement about the nature of magic and how it works. That's the point of having the Hoaxer as a central character too, the whole story's about how magic is an art of making use of the ambiguities in how we can choose to interpret the world to make seemingly impossible things happen.

2. Lucas himself made it a certain way and later down the line changed his mind and wanted to changed his mind because who knows maybe it's a fuck you to his ex wife or whatever. Either way HE made it one way and then HE decided to change it down the line.
3. It's more like how Park didn't have the budge to add the fade to black and white effect in Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance. The film would be better with that effect and it was his vision that wasn't fulfilled due to circumstances outside his power.
If you want to be obtuse about it and put on your nostalgia goggles and meme about "original is always better for no reason other than the fact that it's the way I experienced it first" then go ahead but you are objectively wrong and the original colors are crap. Either way I'm out.

Honestly I've seen the story with both coloring versions now and I don't see how either one is different from the other in any way that actually impacts the plot. I got the same story out of both versions as far as I can tell.

I think there's like some pages in Flex that I liked more with the old coloring but there's enough in the new version that I like and think is an actual improvement.

I would certainly rank the recolored Flex higher than the recolored Killing Joke, the Dark Horse recolored BWS Conan, that one version of the Incal, and various Marvel modern recolorizations.

Also remember Stardust was super-super-obscure until the 00's. They were backup stories in a title by a Golden Age publisher whose only consistently successful character was the Dan Garrett Blue Beetle. Stardust didn't get reprinted until maybe around 1982 in Spiegelman's Raw Magazine.

I'm not sure Fox ever got their comics out to Scotland during the 40's and 50's, and I don't know if Raw ever got distributed overseas or not. That's why I'm not sure Morrison would've heard about the character till the 00's like a lot of people.

Entire point of the book is to be kinda bittersweet and somber, and slightly dark and depressing at times. More muted colors definitely fit better with the atmosphere.

Lucas didn't create Star Wars alone. Star Wars was made as a cooperative effort between Lucas, his wife who edited the film, the actors, a lot of original lines were changed or ad-libbed.

Lucas isn't solely responsible for greatness of the original trilogy, which we're blatantly seeing in the prequels.
Morrison and Quitely ARE solely responsible for greatness of Flex Mentallo.
