How do we convince Bill Watterson to come out of retirement?

Frankly I just want him to publish some of his paintings. The man can do what he wants, but why some people put their light under a bushel I will never understand.

I wanted his autograph when I was 6. Calvin and Hobbes was my favorite comic as a kid and probably still is due to nostalgia. I heard that there was going to be a cartoon of it and got really excited. Got disappointed when it was cancelled but once I heard that he declined because he said fuck you to merchandise and never wanted it to be a brand he became my hero. Then I found out that he stopped doing autographs because people sold them my respect for him only rose.
He is never coming back and he wants to be left alone. He is one of the few that have my utmost respect for.
I still wanted that autograph though, but I'll respect that he doesn't want to.

I saw Bill Watterson at a grocery store in Los Angeles when I was six. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for autographs or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

He's like one of the ten artists in human history who didn't sell out the second people offered fat stacks of cash, let alone after years of turning down probably increasingly large stacks of cash. He didn't just say no once and fell into obscurity, he stayed relevant despite not whoring his project out in a complete opposite move of the two orange cats designed to be a successful cash cow.
