Looking back they where kind of mean spirited cunts, weren't they
>>
>>94619149
This was totally me when I was a kid. While other kids were laughing at anvils and Wakko's belches, I was recording each episode so I could rewind and pause on all the visual inside jokes hidden in the backgrounds and secret messages in the credits. I wasn't on Usenet then (they were really poking fun at the geeks on alt.rec.animation, if memory serves correct), but I still got such a kick out of the fact that they dedicated an entire cartoon to acknowledging people like me.
>>
>>94619296
>...to the point your socks can stand up by themselves
Did they just make a fucking cum sock joke?
>>
>>94619419
I wouldn't have put that past them, but I think the likelier, more innocent explanation is that anyone who has been glued to their computer monitor for that many hours a day (remember, this was during the early days of the internet when people were still expected to go outside now and then) probably hasn't washed their socks in ages, to the point that they are so loaded with toe jam and dried sweat that they've become stiff enough to stand on their own.

SOMEONE POST THE 90s ANIMANIACS CONVENTION,
It had genuine fedoras and also:

Everything that "straw man" character said was pulled from "alt.animaniacs" websites from way back when.
>>
>>94619501
There's a ton of information about the Animaniacs fan scene at Keeper's Cartoon Files: http://www2.cruzio.com/~keeper/toons.html

The website and the guy who manages it are both getting up there in years, and I'll be very sad the day it finally goes offline. Keeper himself was one of the people they were parodying in that episode.
>>
>>94619149
I am to some degree and their defence is "it's just a cartoon" but I would argue that a $600.000-per-ep production shouldn't make mistakes that we wouldn't excuse in a school report of a 10yo. Especially today. You have the whole knowledge of the world in your pocket. It takes 5s. Your character has to say something in [french] - google it. Better ask a native speaker. Animanics often had educational part and more often they are wrong. Kids rewatch these shows very often and the creators know that. DO YOUR FUCKING JOB.

This was a brilliant way to start my morning. Really got the old gears going. Still surprises me how little our species changes. It's like nothing has changed since Roman times, only the tech and the language. They even had the aesthetic spacing down. What a ride this was.
>>

It's comforting to me in the long run. Makes me feel good to know that in the end, nothing will really change that far from our norm.
>>

It's just bizarre to think that in 10-15 years time we're going to see this exact kind of behavior about shows we're currently bitching about.

>"Man, Cartoon Network is so far up its own ass it's forgotten what it's supposed to be about. What happened to the good old days of animation? I fucking loved Teen Titans Go and OK KO back when I was a kid, none of CN's newest stuff comes close to that kind of genuinely great humor!"

>>94622397
I'm amazed we haven't had someone that actually remembers CN Real as good or nostalgic.

The farthest we got is someone saying that CN real was the least of two evils when compared to teen titans network since they at least had different shows.

>Before then, Usenet was largely restricted to colleges and universities. Every September, a large number of incoming freshmen would acquire access to Usenet for the first time, taking time to become accustomed to Usenet's standards of conduct and "netiquette". After a month or so, these new users would either learn to comply with the networks' social norms or tire of using the service.

>Whereas the regular September freshman influx would quickly settle down, the influx of new users from AOL did not end, and Usenet's existing culture did not have the capacity to integrate the sheer number of new users following September 1993.[4][5] Since then, the popularity of the Internet has brought on a constant stream of new users and thus, from the point of view of the pre-1993 Usenet users, the influx of new users in September 1993 never ended.

This is amazing. It's the same thing. It's the same goddamn thing. Though this makes me fearful for what 4chan will be like in the next 5 years considering "eternal Summer" has been a thing for about a year or so now

I think CN Real is an exception because nostalgia only works if it's in line with expectations of things being "good" or at least better than something before. CN Real is such an abomination and affront to the existence of the network that there is no way it can be considered something positive by any stretch of the mind.

For comparison, you'll probably never hear somebody be like "God I miss the Virtual Boy" or "Things were so much better when I could only download 1:30 clips of Ranma off Kazaa with piss yellow subs through dial-up internet"

These are all hoaxes. The person perpetrating them will insist that they're for real; he's an overzealous fan in the Philippines named Dennis Tamayo who believes that if he writes enough fanfic, they will somehow magically get made into real episodes.

Unfortunately since there are so many people on the internet, and some of them would even lie to get a reaction (the horror), you can find any opinion you're looking for, the way >>94622890 did.

Scientifically, nostalgia works by remembering the good parts and suppressing or rationalizing the bad parts. "We had to walk uphill in the snow both ways and we liked it" sometimes occurs, especially as you get older and feel that the younger generation has it too good and they've gone too soft.

Someone somewhere likes CN Real, and they're deluded enough or have bad enough taste to think it's better than The Amazing World of Gumball or [current CN show you like].

I remember, when I was a young lad back in the mid-90's and went onto a bulletin board. People were introducing themselves in a welcome thread and stupidly posting pictures of themselves.

I, again as a pre-tween, uploaded my own picture from the past Halloween where I wore joke glasses that had square frames with green circle lens.

The amount of shit I received was unbelievable. Yet, I wasn't triggered or anything of the sort. I simply moved on with my life.

I always think back to that time as today, it would be a shitshow with how faggy people are online when they receive negative feedback or "get bullied".

Man, sometimes I forget that there was a time before the internet compartmentalized people into their various sub-groups for easy processing. Don't get me wrong, there is still certainly overlap, but it's much better than the homogeneous mass that was pre-internet fandoms.

But yeah, the early furries were fuckin' weird, man. Not the early-early furries, i.e. the actual fans of werewolves, Looney Tunes and sci-fi, but the psychotic sexual weirdos brought in by certain deviants within the furry community.

I'm now in my mid-30's and have a job as an IT manager where there are 30 people who report to me on a daily basis. Last week I had to fire someone after giving them numerous chances.

This woman, a 22-year-old, fit the Tumblr mode to the letter. She is obese, multicolored hair, was rude to end users, and could recite book knowledge but could never apply that to real-world situations.

1) Told an end user to fuck off because said user wanted to speak with another person as they were constantly being placed on hold for her to research.

2) Changed an end user's wallpaper as it offended her. Said wallpaper was the end user's wedding picture. She's black and he is a white man.

3) Last straw was during an all-hands meeting I called to explain a new tool that will be launched company wide, she continued to interrupt only the men when they asked questions over the tool and said that I shouldn't be a manager as I'm a white male.

When HR and I brought her into a conference room to terminate her. She REEEEE'd as the HR rep is also a white man.

I pointed out that one of the hallmarks of WB humor was that *nothing* is sacred, and I didn't see why us fans should be left out; Peter said he hoped we still felt that way three minutes later, as he punched PLAY. I think I can speak for the rest of the group when I say that we did. The cartoon is screamingly funny, and I'll fire a preemptive shot in the flamewar that it will undoubtedly produce amongst those who take themselves too seriously: if you're offended by it, you should take a long look at yourself to see just how close to home it hits.

>Yes, I did point out an error in PPPGALF. The expression on Peter's face was one of supreme shock. Peter, I hope you understand that it had to be said, and that I wasn't out for blood... No, I will *not* reveal it beforehand. If you weren't there, you get to look for it yourself when it airs. Why should I spoil your fun?

The guys who were the actual target of the short seem to have liked it.

That's because posting has plateaued. It's just gonna be the same people in 10 years. Then again it seems like most people on /co/ and other boards these days are 16-18 years old. So there is still a turn over rate for 4chan. I kept saying back then we're just going to get older and older with the board with no younger people coming in due to how kids are. Guess there are still those odd ones out these days.

I remember posting threads on /co/ that didn't really have anything to do with comics or cartoons and they turned into great threads. Can't do that now without getting your thread deleted or getting a ban. As for /b/ it can't be saved unless Hiro or the top mods did something about it instead of just making more shitpost random boards. If you look at the /qa/ board you'll see it's just a shitposting board because the mods don't care about feedback from the users of 4chan and they do what they want.

The Mane 6 kept a Friendship journal over the course of the previous seasons and decide to publish it. It spawns a crazy fanbase that starts to harass them. They echo a lot of criticisms the RL fanbase has (Fluttershy keeps learning the same lesson about being assertive, Twilight was better before she got wings). Mane 6 get depressed but get over it once they see young girl ponies enjoying the journala nd taking its lessons to heart. They ignore the angry crowd that keeps arguing outside.

Naturally, a big part of /mlp/ took the whole thing personally (hurr durr disregard our citicism because little girls enjoy this shit anyway regardless).

>>94645580
Why are complaining about weebs on 4chan? of course it is gonna have mods who are weebs.
>>
>>94645969
A post with a notable number, usually repeating digits, but the difference between making a regular post that happens to be 6666666 on a particular board and making a GET is, in the latter, you're intentionally trying to time things to get that number and you usually call your shot. And rule changes over the years have made that worthy of a temp ban, outside of /b/, for reasons.
>>
>>94646140
Well jeez, it's easy to imagine why. People must have been spamming the boards to hell and back just to get a repeating number.
>>
>>94646198
Welcome to why /v/ is actually coded so no post can end in double digits.
>>
>>94646198
Yeah, on top of that, the software was more primitive and the servers were less robust. To slightly compensate, there were also fewer people posting, but threads didn't archive in the old days so for the particularly big GETs (like 1M over on /a/ nearly eleven years ago), nearly every current thread would end up getting bumped off of page 10 before things calmed down. A wilder and more anarchic era.
>>
>>94646231
Actually, you can get trips and higher, but only if it's repeating zeroes, such as >>>/v/387000000.
