Hey /co/, I wanted to get some perspective on how superheroes behave in comics and cartoons. One of my favorite authors is Shotaro Ishinomori, because he hit the nail on the head for me. His most famous works, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, and Cyborg 009 share this idea that the ideas of maintaining peace and justice must prevail, no matter what.
Ishinomori presented this without making light of doing good deeds, without making the heroes seem like hypocrites, and managed to maintain a sense of hope even when a villain threatened to return.
I think the Modern Age could use a good dose of this type of thinking and story-telling. Anyone want to share?

Moral ambiguity and dark takes on other wise lighthearted characters are not longer shocking or novel, if anything it's the norm. At this point genuine altruism would be more groundbreaking than Mister Miracle silting his wrists.

>Mister Miracle silting his wrists
Please, tell me this isn't a thing.

It makes sense in the context of the comic.

It's still fucking retarded.

Ishinomori was an author in control of his works, what in many occasions put him in troubles with power figures, while capeshit is run by corporations so authors aren't allowed

Wasn't Ishinomori part of the generation of manga writers that fought against the Japanese version of the Comics Code Authority?

Tezuka saw how bad the American comic writers were screwed by the industry so he teach the young mangakas to fight for their independence and their copyrights. The big irony is that a collectivistic shithole like Japan respect the intellectual property while the land of the free and self-determination treat creators like shit in favor of huge corporations thanks to legally doubtful deals that were made with the help of the Sicilian mob

He would never imagine Ideologs Loonabins SJWs taking over comic books.

The SJWs are just a symptom of a bigger disease.
