I picked up the first couple issues of Rebirth RH&TO because I saw Ma Gunn came back and I thought "this is just crazy enough to check out", but it really is just "meh" writing.

Like, the first issue revolves around Jason shooting the mayor of Gotham, but ZA TWIST is that he shot him with a cure for a Technorganic Virus like this is X-Force? And all the crooks in Gotham respect that even though he decidedly DIDN'T kill the mayor and is wearing a big red Bat-logo? And want to share a drink with him even though the entire city and Batman would be looking for him? And Black Mask is so impressed he wants to recruit Red Hood, again, even though he seemingly failed. And Black Mask was now never involved in Under the Hood, which is still somehow canon? And also Batman wasn't in on the TO virus bullet cure TWEEST, so he just actually failed to stop his protege from shooting that guy, and Jason actually decided to NOT tell him till later and still play the "Y DONT U TRUST ME" card.

All that from the first issue. I don't get why people insist it's gotten better either, other than "because Jason hanging out with other weirdos is marginally better than hanging out with Dick's old friends".

People say that the super old comics with Jason, his hair was supposed to be "red" but honestly it looked mostly blonde/strawberry blonde to me. If they wanted his hair to be clearly red then it would probably look more red since old comics still had red ink (even if Vicky Vale around the same era had relatively the same colour that strawberry blonde Jason had. The colour was pretty light.)

But that's my problem. I don't like that Black Mask's been reset so he doesn't have beef with Catwoman or Red Hood anymore. War Games may've been crap, but the Brubaker run on Catwoman and UtRH were really well received stories, I dunno why they'd retcon them, except maybe because of those womeninrefrigerator thinkpieces about how Black Mask was "problematic" in those stories, but I don't wanna turn this into that kinda thread. I think Redhood is good when he tries not to kill but will kill if he thinks it is necessary and wont cry over it.

One thing I gotta say is that I think it's best that even if he completely "forgives" Dick, that he never truly gets rid of a ball of negative feelings for him still hiding inside him. When Jason came back from the dead Dick was almost never kind or sympathetic to him. Dick usually treated Jason like an absolute villain; even during situations where most people would feel bad for him. Even Tim felt bad for Jason and Dick wished Jason stayed dead.

Lobdell IS shit. He managed a few good pages in his Superman run, but otherwise everything else I ever read of his that he wrote in the New 52 was just proof positive that he had dirt on someone in editorial because even Harras wouldn't keep a turd on just due to 'friendship' since Bob's even more of a pathetic loner than canonical Batman.

However, and I say this as someone who could give two fucks about Amazon boobs OR Jason Todd, and I admit I've mostly read along with some of the story-times, but RHatO is both fun, interesting and better than (sadly) some of the other handful of Rebirth books. This Bizarro arc and the issues where they found him and brought him onboard in toto are better than the first arc of Aquaman, for example. And certainly superior to someone considered a better writer (Orlando) efforts on (Supergirl) and a classic old timer (Super Woman) even if he's not known for writing, he was certainly previously praised for co-plotting (Phil Jimenez).

You know, as much problems as Jason has, he's emotionally more healthy that emotionally stunning-man, Bruce. Not that he's a brick, but he really, really has a struggle with how to free his emotions. And when he does, then you know shit hits the fan, because holy shit, that's odd. You can see that Damian, and in a much smaller extent, Dick, also suffer of that. Tim and Babs are relatively well adjusted in that department. And given that Jason has a PTSD life-lasting, gained across his shitty life, you can see that he has a lot of reasons to be absolutely emotional-driven sometimes. Not always, and nowadays, not often, even. But he still is.

While Bruce is still mr smiles and feels, always so communicative and reflective of his emotios, right?

There are a lot of reasons for the hatred between each other, but when it comes to the comics right now...I think it's all based on the old grudges/history they had that they're not letting go of.

It's pretty much Batman in Snyder's book. Or in JL, or in a lot of other stuff since middle 80's, like, let me see, JLI: I remember him being this broody character who is hardly affectionate with anyone else. I may be wrong, but wasn't his problem to accept the loss of Jason what in the end precipitated Tim's arrival? And even if I hate that story arc, Bruce, again, after losing Damian, had a lot of problems, first, because he couldn't deal with it and acted distant and cold because he couldn't deal with the loss, and then he came and was a cunt to Jason. And then, we went to Apokolips and what's not, without counting with help of the JL or whatever. Bruces s stubborn with his feelings because he puts then aside, and that makes him stunned. Proposing to Selina was an advance, to me, at least. As it is each time he hugs anyone or expends non working time with them 8a think ithappened in current RHATO, for example). It depends on the writers, of course, but is kind of a constant since 30 years ago.

But I'm not a Batfan, so what would I know? You're free to correct me posting pages.

I would say that the only books in which he comes across as a, to some extent, caring and affectionate person, is in the books that are shared with family members. But in the books that are Bruce alone or with the Justice League and the like, he's as I've said. That's something, I guess.
