I guess I missed the last one, but I really wanted to show off my haul this week.

What else did /co/ get? What's the shelf/box looking like now?
>>
>>94599794
Did Supergirl get better or did you just buy it for the Variant? also how much did is the She-hulk #1?
>>
>>94599925
Supergirl is getting better. She isn't as serious as she was and the high school melodrama is getting reigned in a bit for more superheroing.

And I overpayed a bit for the she-hulk. $230 for white pages. I know it goes up and down a lot, but I've been waiting to pull the trigger on it for a few months now.
>>
Oh man OP wait till that anon sees that you didn't use the template

Someone on /co/ that appreciates graded comics? I'm in shock! Got any other graded goodness? Nabbed that Supergirl cover as well, but had to go to a different lcs then I pull at. Apparently they were too stupid to see how popular an artgerm cover would be
>>
>>94600092

>>
>>94600028
>>94600087
pretty bummed Supergirl hasn't improved maybe after rebirth it gets good. $230 is pretty alright, I almost bought the Silver Surfer #1 variant for 120 4-5 years ago when I was window shopping. Also isn't jungle fantasy just ero comic?

This is my little collection so far, though I'm getting a spider-woman 1 that I bought just for the cover in soon.

>>94600199
I hold off buying stuff for 3 months or longer when it's pricey to make sure I'll want it properly. The only thing that will make me regret buying she-hulk is if her price drops drastically. I haven't regretted anything I've bought following that system yet.

And I don't even know what the jungle fantasy is about, I just liked the progression of the four covers they had for issue 2.
>>
>>94600621
Is JSA classified supposed to be rare or something same with WW rebirth?
>>
>Paying $2 for something that costs like $0 on /co/
>>
>>94600621
Nice I prefer cbcs myself since the case damaging books incident with cgc a few years back. I also think cbcs has better customers service. I've only self submitted books, havnt bought graded yet.
>>
Went to a one day convention nearby, I got 1973 Prez 1 and 3, Flash 163, Batman 666, and a polybagged issue of the story where Superman comes back from the dead.
>>
>>94600728
Yeah, sometimes I worry about temperature and pressure on the cases. I try to keep them upright.

CBCS is nice and they do come cheaper, but in the event of my descendants having to sell my stuff, I want them to have an easier time of it.

Because this shit isn't going anywhere while I'm still alive.

thing is, if you don't vote with your dollar on what is good they will keep pushing squirrel girl comic, since those sell and get eisners. Also should be noted that I refuse to buy anything written by Kreisberg on principle alone.

>>
>>94609551
I recently read the Jeff Lemire Green Arrow book and loved it. In 20+ years of reading comics it is honestly the first Green Arrow book I've read. What is another Green Arrow book or two that's good?
>>
>>94609666
Good job Satan.

what's your thoughts on the current GA run? I really like it, even though I know it is retredding a lot of the same ground that has been done before (like a lot of Rebirth). Stellar art too. And it seems like even if the story starts to dip for one run the next run always seems to fix it and get my hyped again.
>>
>>94609706
The one you HAVE to start with is Longbow Hunters. It's what kicked of Mike Grell's run and is really fantastic. Then read the rest of Grell's run or read Green Lantern/Green Arrow if you like the /pol/ side of GA (a right winger and left winger roaming the country is really great stuff). I liked Conner's Green Arrow, at least the first 3 trades, and hear Kevin Smith's GA is really great and may be the only really good book he wrote
>>
>>94609706
If you loved it for the mysticism and weird island stuff my recommendations would be
>Year One
>The Longbow Hunters (since it introduces Shado)
>Here There Be Dragons
>Blood of the Dragon
>Quiver
If you liked it for Ollie as a character then
>Green Lantern/Green Arrow
>The Archer's Quest (one of my faves)
>Longbow Hunters (it's great desu)
>Year One (same)
>The entirety of Grell's run on the character

I know that's more than what you asked for but that's probably the best Ollie has out there, apart from the Lemire stuff.
>>
>>94609773
>>94609800
Nice, thanks! I'll be paying a visit to my library.
>>
>>94609706
I haven't read Lemire's run yet but GA without BC is only half a man. He's TOO much left wing and too much a loose cannon without her to ground him a bit.
>>
>>94609733
I think it's great, but that's coming off from the Kreisberg issues and the pre-Rebirth Percy so I may have low expectations now. Especially like how he's tying all his run with one group of villains, love it when a run does that. This is the factor that I think makes one want to keep on reading, since the plot is all tied together and makes you invested enough to pick the next issue.

Still, like you said, it seems like it's doing the old one-two and that Percy's attempt at being a filthy liberal are not that good, which leaves Ollie at a weird spot.
>>
>>94609863
Lemire's Ollie isn't very left-wingish. He tried to create mythos for the character and give Ollie some villains and better supporting cast, sacrificing some aspects of Ollie while doing so, is what I feel.

You want "not too popular"? Try New Super-man, Kenan is as not popular as you can get. Great book, if you have a tight budget his book comes out monthly, and it has great comedy, which I guess you like, judging by your taste in Power Girl and Harley Quinn.

are there any apps out there for helping you with shelf limits so you don't accidentally put too much weight on a shelf? i know i'll get the obvious don't put too many heavy books on the same shelf
>>
>>94611688
No, but you can probably look the books up on Amazon to get the weight.
>>
>>94611688
The Bending Moment equation wouldn't do you any good because you have to calculate every book along the shelf to get the stress at every moment (calculus). A heavy book in the middle of a shelf will have much more impact than at the end of a shelf. So basically those calculations will be useless unless you do it all by hand and I don't think you want to be doing that.

Or are you talking wall hanging brackets? if so, the bracket's should have a weight/load printed for them.

>>94612383
ah, yeah well no calculator is going to be accurate cause you have to derive a formula for each segment between each anchoring and also for the weight of the books at ever section. And in that case you can't rearrange. Just push on it and see how much it seems to have strength for.

Door's don't need to carry much weight usually, so I wouldn't want to put much on that, unless you have some heavy ass hinges. Even then it's better to put the majority of the load close to the hinge.

Be very careful reading them. I never opened mine fully, and similar sized omnis from DC (i.e., the Silver Age Doom Patrol and Batman by Neal Adams) I've either only opened flat about halfway through or held partially open between my knees for support.
I'm going to do the same with the JSA omni set, and eventually this year's Fourth World re-issue. It sounds stupid, but it gets the bigger ones through without strain.

How so? I was planning on just making one or two costumes and using them as a reason to go to more events, not, like, making a new costume for every convention that pops up.
>>
>>94624727
Nah, it's fine if you can keep it to that, but the cosplay community where I live is very focused on trying to be just as good as the people who compete and you are kind of expected to have a new complicated costume every event.

then you shouldn't buy the omni's buy the smaller books. why buy something you can't read?
>>
>>94623330

Heroescon is probably the best for that as it still caters to comic fans and half the convention is basically an artists alley. Not much cosplay but there is some.

As far as omnis are concerned isn't sept. 19 a pretty stacked day? I think the two Thor omni come out (Simonson reprint and Jurgen first) plus planet Hulk.

you connect your cell phone to your pc and put them into an image viewer/editor like ms-paint, paint.net, photoshop etc, rotate them right and then save them.
I never trust my cellphone so I do that with every pic I make. takes an additional 30 seconds each and you can be sure you're not posting a potato quality pic because you're actually taking a look at it again.
alternatively you can download quite a lot of image rotators/editor apps from the google/apple stores

>>
>>94629372
It's a murder mystery/conspiracy concerning an underwater scientific base and a small cast of characters. Much smaller tighter focus than MIND MGMT but still opens out at times to play with chronology and the larger setting.

Also it has great water colors from Matt Kindt's wife, perfect for the setting.

If you're gonna get that and MIND MGMT, probably just do MIND MGMT now and then DEPT H when it's almost/all done and collected before too long
>>
>>94629372
I also wonder if mind mgmt will get the hardcover treatment, I don't mind trades but I have regretted buying up the whole collection of trades right before a deluxe hardcover edition comes out

If you're talking about dollar bin purchases? just grab whatever looks interesting to you, thats the point of a dollar bin.

for newer stuff, I dunno just pick a character you like? why does it being not too popular come into play.... nobody is going to give you weird nerd cred for being a fan of some odd underused character.

... actually if I could recommend one thing, save up a bit and buy the Nextwave TPB, they're all obscure characters when it really comes down to it.

This. theres no way to easily calculate any of that shit, esp given diff building materials, types of wood, thickness, etc.

put heavy books on either end, omnis should go on the bottom shelf esp if its right on floor level.

If your shelves are starting to bow but arn't too bad yet you could also get some plywood cut to size to reinforce it... really cheap particle board shelving and other budget options don't hold a ton of weight but a bit of extra material will help a bunch.

>DC really needs to use thinner paper

No... no they fucking don't, thats why I hate Marvel tpb's, it feels cheap and shitty.

what they need to do.. is improve their binding and general bookmaking skills and also cut omnis off at a certain page limit, the price of most very large books is based either on quality or page count anyways

so for example theres no reason why Johns GL and JSA couldn't be in 4 or 5 volumes instead for less cost per book. Absolutes throw that all out of whack but I doubt anyone will argue theyre not most of the time amazing, quality wise.

>inb4 the "but the paper is so thin you can see through it" myth

I refuse to buy anything that's been graded and sealed in plastic. That book will never be read by the child you pass your collection down to. Also part of the fun of having the collection is being carful and caring for them and being able to pull it out and gently flip through the pages. Why bother collecting if it will never be enjoyed?

That's fair, but I look at it differently. I look at them more like fancy art prints. Just like I'd pay 600 bucks for an original Mall that I'm just going to look at every now and again and that I could just a print of for 40 bucks, I'd pay a few hundred for a copy of a graded comic I like.

What do you like about Dollface.
I wanna say I read the first issue, but felt entirely indifferent to it and I'm not 100% sure I finished it.
But it and zomboetramp and the vampire one keep being made so SOMETHING in them must be good and I should give it a second chance.
>>
>>94646886
That's one of the blind buys. I read Zombie Tramp volume 1, liked it but didn't love it and never got around to trying the ongoing. Decided to grab dollface since I love anything with living dolls, and it'd give me an excuse to finally get Zombie Tramp if I liked it or a reason to hold off longer if I didn't.

Well hopefully you find out if ya like it in time to purchase the triple crossover.
>>
>>94644157
I actually have done that for the She-Hulk, the Fairest, and the Wonder Woman.

Honestly I don't see why my kids would care that much about opening my CGCs, they'd probably learn whatever values they would about comics from me if at all. And it's not like I'm getting stuff that can't be bought in omnibuses or trades.

While I can understand your way of thought concerning passing things down, it's still a little hard for me to understand. There has to be a breakpoint of not letting your kids touch your shit, and all I can say is that your view on flipping through pages of the actual physical copy of rare books might be a personal one.

I do lots of blind buys. I have a couple boxes of stuff that I don't keep on the shelves, stashed away with old Spawn and Superman/Batman trades. Some of them were actually pretty good, but I wound up forgetting about them.
I can't find this old book I used to have... it was like Irredeemable, about the strongest hero going off the rails, but it was a single trade and not a series. I remember the Wonder Woman-analogue was some blond chick who dated the Superman-analogue and winds up getting beheaded. It's been bugging me for a while that I can't remember the name or much else about it.

>>
>>94653605
You seem knowledgeable, is this a good place to start LoSH

http://www.instocktrades.com/TP/DC/LEGION-OF-SUPER-HEROES-1050-YEARS-IN-THE-FUTURE-TP/FEB080239
>>
>>94653679
It was, then they took it down again. But the first The Legion tPB is out next month and the second Legionnaires is scheduled for sometime next spring
>>
>>94653796
Not really, it showcases different stories from different eras which is pretty cool but it doesn't make that much sense unless you already know what's going on. A lot of LoSh trades don't, sadly.
>>
>>94653840
Yeah I'm finding it really hard to get into LoSH
>>
>>94653796
Not him, but I read this one pretty early on in my LoSH interest. I don't think it was bad as a way to get snapshots of the big moments, but it's not really "this is the soul of the franchise". Like if you have any of the recent 75th anniversary collections from DC it's basically like that.

The Johns Action arc is fairly good to jump in with, just titled Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes. Followup for it is Legion of 3 Worlds, which probably isn't the best for beginners but I enjoyed it still both as one of my earlier reads and after I got better context for the franchise.
>>
>>94653987
I can see why. I'm pretty young as far as LoSH fans go (and not the guy with the shelf) so I actually got into it via the cartoon, which was kinda useful because it meant that I was decently familiar with several of the core characters when I started reading the actual comics.

If you want to start with the comics I'd probably recommend The Beginning of Tomorrow or Legionnaires (different collections of the same thing) because they are the start of the second reboot and rethread some stuff without immediately throwing you into the deep end of the pool. And even if the reboot era turns out to not be your thing it's a bit easier to pick up somewhere in the original boot or threeboot after reading that.
>>

>>94653679

>>94654174
Thanks for the recommendations. I've picked up the Darkness Saga at a second hand book store for five bucks a little while ago
>>
>>94654648
There's a collection that picks up after Great Darkness Saga titled The Curse but they kind of drop the ball on going further than that. I guess generally the problem is that the 70s-80s stuff is probably the best LoSH, but it's not collected well. Recently there's a "Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes vol 1" reprint collection that starts up before GDS, but is a good starting point for that era if you wanted more. I guess no telling how much they'll end up doing before they drop the reprints there.

If you really want to dive in, there's probably still that torrent floating around with everything in it.

The Curse ends with the end of vol 2. For some reason they didn't pick up where they should at the start of Volume 3. You would really think Eye for An Eye would get something!

Best way to get into the legion is probably Reboot stuff or looking for Showcases. imo it makes the later Levitz stuff better if you have a grasp of the characters as kids and a sense of history. Threeboot is good for this too but ymmv not everyone realizes it's great.

He literally throws out pages because he doesn't like "how they turned out". The first has Animal Man and Doom Patrol, the second has Hellblazer and Swamp Thing. Both have Hellboy, which is borderline cape. Granted, having absolutely 0 capes is the sign of a closed mind as much as having nothing but capes is, but still.

amazon having really shit packaging is sadly a world-wide thing. apparently it's cheaper for them to use the cheapest packaging possible and taking the occasional fucked book they have to replace than using better packaging in general.
the more you order at once the better the packaging ends up though, because they have to use boxes then instead of envelopes, but only if they send it all from the same storehouse.

>>
>>94688582
Yeah I agree with you. Not everything from DC/Marvel is instant capeshit.
I think it all comes down to
1. Do they have a specific enemy or "villain" to fight who's for sure evil
2. Do they ever interact with other known superheroes
3. Do they have a special title or nickname that isn't their real name that they often go by

>>94690117
No there can be.
Gaiman's Sandman has Dream interact with DC heroes and one of their villains early on, but never had a specific enemy or villain to fight cause "they're evil" so Sandman isn't cape.
Not sure if Flintstones crossover with Booster Gold was canon, but even if it was it's still be noncape.
Most Jonah Hex runs wouldn't be considered cape (possibly All Star Western).

Someone should create a new one of these with the template.

Just moving into my new place and this year I ended up renting a van to take everything I could up. I even brought my long boxes. I hated the idea of floppies last year, but seeing all my comics atm. Damn I'd like to start collecting floppies again. Also pinned the Black Canary GL Shaner variant on my wall and it looks neat.
