Guardians is probably my favorite film of the year, though it's neck-and-neck with Logan.
The first ten minutes of Valerian feel like an actual movie, then everything falls apart.

Guardians was cheesy but very heartfelt. Valerian felt like Besson desperately trying to recapture the inspiration he felt when making the fifth element, with none of the talent backing him up.

Guardians of the Galaxy is real good, a few of the running gags I didn't care for but still a great film.
Valerian was super imaginative with all the aliens and the society, but it had so many info dump expositions that nearly ruined the movie by treating the audience like a 5 year old the way it explained everything in their super simple plot twice.

GOTG2 was the better of the two, easily.
