So what happened to show/don't tell?
Refresh my memory, which part of the episode are you talking about?

It's don't ask don't tell.

Basically anything regarding the divorce was pretty much narrated by Rick. I've enjoyed the one off episode premises so far (which in my opinion, is R&M's greatest strength), but the show kind of loses me when Rick explains every little effect of the divorce.

I thought the season 2 finale and season 3 premiere did a fine job at conveying character arcs without hamfisting it

Gay people are still allowed in the military dude

The problem is that no one expected this show to take itself seriously, and now that it is, it's not fun anymore. No one was watching it to relive their parents divorce. I sure as hell didn't sign up to watch my shitty childhood unfold all over again, but here it is. And it's not that it's bad story telling or writing, it's just not what fans expected from Rick and Morty.

I agree, but regardless, the divorce "arc" could benefit from being played a little more subtle
