This is the most recent Dreamworks movie I can remember, and it was apparently 7 fucking year ago.
What are they even doing right now?
>>
Megamind was 10/10, but you should probably also know How to Train Your Dragon
>>
>>94580385
It was bought by NBCUniversal, which also owns Illumination Entertainment

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illumination_Entertainment

"On April 28, 2016, NBCUniversal announced its intent to acquire competing studio DreamWorks Animation for $3.8 billion. Meledandri will oversee both studios following the completion of the merger.[10][11] On August 22, 2016, the acquisition was completed.[12]"

>>
>>94584544
As I said, it's really not that bad, it's kinda weak in the middle part but it genuinely made me laugh out loud more than once and it draws clever parallels that you wouldn't expect inside itself, plus the sequences that take place in the kids' imagination are really creative in my opinion
It's not a masterpiece and I wouldn't call it DreamWorks' best movie, but it definitely does not deserve all the hate it gets in my opinion.
I encourage you to see for yourself, really
>>
>>94584544
Just ok...they came up with the idea of a baby being the boss and that was about the extent of creativity. From there its just strange, babies are either sent to earth to live with a family or they become trainers at Babycorp...which produces babies. From there its just poop jokes and pop culture references while listening to Alec Baldwin reprise his role as Alec Baldwin in a film for the thousandth time.

El Dorado (how have you never seen it man?!), Rise of the guardians, The croods, Madagascar 2, Shrek Forever After, and that's it

El dorado
Prince of Egypt
Madagascar series
Kung fu Panda series
The croods
Penguins
Rise of the Guardians
>>
>>94583448
Spirit also has a show now too

Where the fuck is El Dorado's show?
>>
>>94584738
Rise of the Guardians is pretty awesome. Its basically Avengers but the team is made up of Santa, The Tooth Fairy, The Sand Man, The Easter Bunny and some other dweeb fighting to save kids dreams or some shit. Its great.

Also Kung Fu Panda 2 is the only good Kung Fu Panda movie. The fight scenes are good, theres a lot less slapstick humor, the villain is great and the whole story is an allegory for when Confucianism took over China and drown out Toaism except in this one Taoism wins. Good movie. Also the climax and last fight are fucking beautiful and still give me chills.
>>
>>94580385
How to Train Your Dragon sequel was good and not just a retread of the first movie like a lot of sequels are, the Croods was actually a lot of fun and I saw Trolls the other day after someone made a thread about it and it was pretty cute/comfy and has some extremely interesting looking art.

>>
>>94588295
The whole point of the movie is that your role isn't spelled out for you, you decide your own destiny. Megamind may have been pegged as a villain but he was a hero deep down and did it his way. Metroman may have been pegged a similar way, as someone who always HAS to save the day when really he just wants to fuck off and do his own thing. Why should people be forced to do a job simply because they're capable of it? Do you stop all police officer or firefighters from quitting and doing whatever simply because they have the power and experience to save people?
>>
>>94585656
Nope. They had thought about it and were in the process of such. But realized that illumination is run like an utter shitshow and that it would be a disaster.

So they just let Dreamworks run themselves and cut a deal with Netflix to keep that train rolling.
>>
>>94583713
Reasoning is that they have so much money they don't give a shit. Legit that's what they said. Also that they'd make most of that back during Olympics revenue. That kinda didn't happen like they'd planned.

Well Lucas Films was just Star Wars and Indiana Jones wasn't it? Dreamworks has multiple heavy hitting franchises like HTTYD, Madagascar, and fucking Shrek which alone has probably made billions of dollars in revenue. i have newfound respect for DW, sure, they were created of out spite, they did some garbage, but they also made gems.

meanwhile Pixar, masters of polish did same movies over and over, and now they're making sequels ordered by Gisnep.

Sadly, the future looks grim for DW:
>httyd sequel
>trolls sequel
>boss baby sequel

Tigress legit had daddy issues though. Eeps only issue with her dad was that he was TOO overprotective, which is pretty much the opposite backstory of "I fuck guys for attention".

Eep is the superior waifu.

This would only be a problem if the film tried to pretend he was justified in doing this. But they pretty much call him out on it and have the female lead start throwing things at him in anger.
>>
>>94599306
Let's not kid ourselves here; it's Dreamworks mission statement to make big franchises they can milk for many sequels.
They're only trying so many new things because they keep failing to find the hit that will generate trilogies.

Disney makes franchises too. It all boils down to money.

everywhere.

Im still surprised they arent milking Zootopia

Cars/Frozen/Marvel/StarWars oversaturated the market.
>>

Notice I said "the" dad, not "a" dad. The Croods sets itself up to be a fairly conventional young daughter vs mean dad story, which is a fairly common one. But then it pulls you a fast one on you and makes the dad the main character, not the daughter, which is usually the point of view of the story. The story is not simply "youth brings innovation" but rather "an old dog can still learn new tricks". The movie is much more about the relationship between the dad and the new dude than the dad and his daughter.

I swear I only like Monsters vs Aliens for the waifu and fetish material, Susan was cute.

My younger brother is the exact opposite though, he can't watch past the church growth scene, it freaks him out.

Boss Baby's based on a book, as pretty much every piece of film and tv is
>>
>>94595091
Peter was right fuckin there and just kinda let the person escape. Metroman may want to be some vagrant or wanderer just practicing music but if a robber passed him by he trip the dude and leave the rest for the authorities. His main issue was that he felt OBLIGATED to stop every goddamn instance of crime and go out of his way thus taking away any chance of a life he could have had but given the same situation I don't think uncle Ben would have died that day.

>Antz
Better than most give it credit for, not as good as some claim
>Prince of Egypt
10/10 Musical that treats its source material with respect, whilst still being a kids movie.
>El Dorado
Fun, goofy movie with top tier waifu and lovable characters that carry it's kinda weak story
>Chicken Run/Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Nick Park is an animation and comedy genius, but he relies heavily on dry British humour that Americans don't get.
>Shrek
Must see spin on the fairy-tale formula, was the first to properly do it on the big screen.
>Spirit/Sinbad
Never seen them
>Shrek 2
Continues it's fairy-tale twisting but isn't necessary to watch. If you like the characters, a must see.
>Shark Tale
Don't.
>Madagascar
Kid's will love it. Adults... Maybe.
>Over the Hedge
Amazing voice cast and Talent, but not enough to hold up the bland story
>Flushed Away
Aardman stepped outside of their comfort zone, this one seems to try to keep the British feel, but seems very tailored to American comedy stylings. Less Laurel, more Hardy.
>Shrek the Third
More of the same.
>Bee Movie
There was an attempt. The memes will forever overshadow this.
>Kung Fu Panda
Clearly a cash-grab that someone decided they were going to put honest to god effort into. Everyone puts in a good performance and it came away as a must-watch.
>Madagascar 2
More of the same
>Monsters vs Aliens
Kids will love it.
>How to Train Your Dragon
A wonderful coming of age story that also has an epic bromance. Breathtaking animation, great storytelling and wonderful characters. Must watch.
>Shrek Forever After
A high point of the movies, Keeping it's theme of fairy-tale tipping, but also having a lot of heart.
>Megamind
"You are who you choose to be" and "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" put together in a fun and enjoyable film.
>Kung Fu Panda 2
Just as good as the first, cast put in a great performance and the animation and action set-pieces put on a great show.

>Puss In Boots
There was an attempt, but ultimately bland and forgettable.
>Madagascar 3
Better than it has any right being. Some interesting choices and actual character growth make it a good place to end it... But they didn't.
>Rise of the Guardians
"See, we can do Avengers too" It's good, but plays it a little too safe.
>The Croods
Heartwarming family film with a good question of Freedom vs Security. It's always nice to watch a childrens film where intolerance can be a villain.
>Turbo
It's exactly what you think it is. A few chuckles but ultimately kinda crap.
>Mr Peabody & Sherman
A nice attempt at a story, but it is too unfocussed to really draw you in.
>How to Train Your Dragon 2
Surpassed the first, building on it, taking risks and ultimately delivering a hell of a great movie.
>Penguins of Madagascar
Made for kids, although there's a few laughs to be had.
>Home
Bland, forgettable, but very pretty.
>Kung Fu Panda 3
An interesting idea that turned the plot on its head. A kinda weak villain, but nice to see Po growing as a character.

There you go, take it, leave it, tell me to fuck off back to the cancer-corner that is Reddit, that's my thoughts.
